Jethro Tull's 50th Anniversary Tour Is Underway Now

LOS ANGELES - Jethro Tull played its first show at the Marquee Club London on February 2, 1968. It was the first step of an epic musical journey as Jethro Tull rose to become one of the world's most successful and influential progressive rock bands. Today, the group - led by founder Ian Anderson - is still on the road, electrifying audiences with a world tour commemorating its 50th anniversary.

To help Jethro Tull celebrate this historic achievement, Parlophone will release a career-spanning three-disc set that features 50 songs - chosen by Anderson - from all 21 of the band's studio albums. 50 FOR 50 will be released on June 1 for $29.98.

50th ANNIVERSARY HITS is a single-disc compilation that spotlights essential tracks from the three-disc set. It will be available on the same day for $14.98. 50th ANNIVERSARY HITS will also be released on vinyl on August 31.

50 FOR 50 provides a sweeping overview of Jethro Tull's rich and diverse catalog, which includes 11 gold and five platinum records. Arranged chronologically, the three-disc set highlights the band's continuous musical evolution with blues-influenced early tracks ("Beggar's Farm" and "A New Day Yesterday"); heavy rockers ("Aqualung" and "Locomotive Breath"); prog classics ("Skating Away" and "Critique Oblique"); and folk tunes ("Songs From The Wood" and "Heavy Horses.")

The compilation also features "Steel Monkey," "Farm On The Freeway," and "Budapest" - three songs from the band's Grammy®-winning 1987 album Crest Of A Knave. The collection ends with "A Christmas Song" and "Ring Out Solstice Bells" - a pair of tracks that originally appeared on The Jethro Tull Christmas Album (2003).

The Jethro Tull 50th Anniversary Tour is currently underway, with concerts scheduled in Europe and North America. The U.S. shows will begin on May 30 in Phoenix, AZ and end on September 12 in Wallinford, CT.

RHINO RECORDS LAUNCHES PODCAST SERIES

Bi-Weekly Podcast Series From Renowned Label Explores
Classic Artists And Music From The Legendary Warner Music Catalog

"The Rhino Podcast" Series Begins Today

LOS ANGELES - Rhino Records, the catalog division of Warner Music Group, has announced the debut of "The Rhino Podcast" in conjunction with the label's ongoing 40th Anniversary celebration.

The first episode focuses on the punk rock pioneers the Ramones and is available now on all major podcast outlets, with upcoming episodes focusing on The Smiths, Gene Simmons, The Cars, The Monkees, and Montrose. "The Rhino Podcast" is a bi-weekly series produced by PopCult and hosted by Dennis Scheyer and Rich Mahan. Each episode offers listeners a deep dive into classic artists and albums with music, interviews with your favorite musicians, and a wealth of behind-the-scenes stories.

"Rhino has set the standard in music curation for 40 years, so it is a natural progression for us to offer our unique perspective and expertise to music fans in 'The Rhino Podcast'" says Rhino President Mark Pinkus. "Drawing from the unparalleled Warner Music catalog gives us an endless list of legendary artists to spotlight, offering listeners a deeper experience with some of the greatest music of all time."

"We've seen time and again how good, carefully curated content drives fans to discover and in this case, hopefully re-discover classic music," says John Hughes, Executive Producer and Rhino VP of Fan Engagement. "As a music fan, this is the kind of podcast I would want to listen to, with the artists, producers, and even hardcore fans taking part."

The centerpiece of the first episode of "The Rhino Podcast" is a conversation with engineer and producer Ed Stasium about the making of the Ramones' landmark third album, Rocket To Russia and his contributions to the recent 40th Anniversary Edition of the punk classic. The set's bonus material includes a December 1977 concert recorded in Scotland that took place just a few days before Stasium recorded the Ramones' classic live album, It's Alive.

To listen to the first episode, visit: https://www.rhino.com/podcast.

All episodes of "The Rhino Podcast" will be available via iTunes, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Play, TuneIn, Pocket Casts, Overcast and the Rhino channels on YouTube and SoundCloud.

"(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" Celebrates 50th Anniversary
And Hit #1 On Both Pop And R&B Charts 50 Years Ago This Friday, March 16

Available On CD, LP, And Digital From Rhino On May 18

LOS ANGELES - Otis Redding was on top of the world in 1967, highlighted by a career-defining performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Returning to Memphis that fall, Redding began to explore different musical influences when he entered the studio to record his next album. Tragically, those sessions were cut short after only a few weeks when the singer died in a plane crash on December 10, 1967, leaving his vision for the album unrealized. While there will never be a definitive idea of what Redding's next album would have been, this new collection is the first to show what could have been.

Rhino will release DOCK OF THE BAY SESSIONS as part of the ongoing 50th anniversary celebration of "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." This Friday, March 16, marks the actual 50th anniversary of the legendary single topping both the pop and R&B charts in 1968 and becoming Redding's first #1 hit.

The 12-song DOCK OF THE BAY SESSIONS collection will be released on May 18 for $14.98 on CD and $21.98 on 180-gram vinyl. The music will also be available on digital download and streaming services.

DOCK OF THE BAY SESSIONS was compiled with input from Roger Armstrong of Ace Records and Otis biographer Jonathan Gould and has the Redding family's full endorsement. Although the individual tracks have been previously released across a smattering of posthumous albums and compilations, this marks the first time they have been assembled to resemble what this album could possibly have been. In the liner notes, musician-journalist Bob Stanley writes: "This album is the first indication of a new Otis Redding, one that has slayed audiences in Europe, one which won him a whole new crowd at the Monterey International Pop Festival."

You can hear it in the stripped-back funk of "Hard To Handle," and the shades of Bob Dylan - whose music Redding loved - in the beautiful lyricism of "Gone Again." Even so, his take on the Impressions' hit "Amen" makes it clear that Redding hadn't abandoned his gospel roots. He hadn't forgotten how to get people dancing either. On the rave-up "Love Man," The Big O gets things shaking with help from Al Jackson Jr.'s propulsive beat, and rhythmic blasts of pure Memphis horn. And just to prove he can still provide heart-stopping ballads, there's his own "I've Got Dreams To Remember," with lyrics Redding adapted from a poem written by his beloved wife Zelma.

The album's opener, "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay," was one of the last songs Redding ever recorded. Released in January 1968, it soon topped the charts on March 16, going on to sell more than four million copies and becoming the first posthumous #1 single in the history of the U.S. music charts.

In 1985, Miles Davis shocked the music world by moving from Columbia Records to Warner Bros. Records and started recording Rubberband. This album marked a radical departure for him, with funk and soul grooves, and was to include vocals by Al Jarreau and Chaka Khan. Produced by Davis, Randy Hall and Zane Giles, the line-up boasted Davis on trumpet and keyboards, keyboardists Adam Holzman, Neil Larsen and Wayne Linsey, percussionist Steve Reid, saxophonist Glen Burris, and Davis's nephew Vince Wilburn Jr., on drums. Engineered by Reggie Dozier (brother of Lamont Dozier, part of the legendary Motown songwriting team), the Rubberband sessions took place at Ameraycan Studios in Los Angeles from October 1985 to January 1986.

The album was subsequently shelved and Davis went on to record Tutu.

"It was fat grooves, really funky, Miles talking. It was street and funky and dirty. We didn't go after writing a great jazz song, Miles wanted the street thing; he wanted the chord changes he wanted to play. The basis was to take it to the street like On The Corner, it was Miles taking more chances," said Hall. Giles added, "Miles kept saying 'I don't wanna do my usual stuff. I wanna do something different.'"

32 years after Rubberband was recorded, the original producers, Hall and Giles, teamed up with Davis' nephew, Vince Wilburn, Jr., to finish and update the title track. In September 2017, they invited the 12-time Grammy nominee soulful singer Ledisi, appearing courtesy of Verve Label Group, to guest on vocals at the Village Studios in Los Angeles. The sessions, co-produced by Anthony "Mac Nass" Loffman and Arthur Haynes for SmashSound Syndicate, together with the original title track, will be released as a 45rpm vinyl 12" EP on Record Store Day 2018.
