GRATEFUL DEAD 50TH ANNIVERSARY SERIES
CONTINUES WITH ANTHEM OF THE SUN

2-CD Deluxe Edition And Limited Edition Vinyl Picture Disc Of
Grateful Dead’s Second Studio Album Will Be Available On July 13

LOS ANGELES – Grateful Dead continue its ambitious 50th anniversary reissue series with ANTHEM OF THE SUN: 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION.

Like all the albums in the ongoing series, Anthem Of The Sun will be released 50 years after its anniversary date as a two-disc deluxe edition that includes the original album with newly remastered sound, plus a bonus disc of unreleased live recordings. The album will also be released as a 12-inch vinyl picture disc produced in a limited edition of 10,000 copies. Both versions will be available on July 13, a few days before the album’s official golden anniversary on July 18.

ANTHEM OF THE SUN: 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION will be available for $24.98 and includes two versions of the original album — one fully remastered from the original 1968 mix, and the other remastered from the more well-known 1971 mix. Both mixes of the albums were mastered by Grammy®-winning engineer David Glasser from the original analog master tapes. The set also includes a bonus disc with a previously unreleased complete live show recorded on October 22, 1967 at Winterland in San Francisco, CA. Newly remastered by Jeffrey Norman, this is the first known recording of the Grateful Dead with Mickey Hart, who joined the band in September 1967.

ANTHEM OF THE SUN: 50th ANNIVERSARY VINYL PICTURE DISC will be available the same day for $21.98 and will feature the remastered 1971 mix of the album.

The band’s most experimental album, Anthem Of The Sun was an unprecedented mix of studio and live recordings stitched together to create a hybrid. Fifty years later, it remains a pinnacle of psychedelic music. It also marked a departure for the band, as they began to channel their creativity into longer jams on songs like “Alligator” and “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” – two live staples of the Dead’s early days.

“This is one the most thrilling albums the Grateful Dead ever produced, mixing portions of live recordings from the first six months of Mickey's tenure with the band, along with studio experimentations that would hint at where the Dead would go when they started recording to 16-track tape the following year,” says archivist and producer David Lemieux.  “The 1971 remix, produced in order to make the album more accessible to the newer fans who were brought on board with Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, has been the most commonly heard version for the past 45+ years. However, having this side-by-side with the original 1968 mix demonstrates countless differences, with the original mix being more primal, psychedelic, and experimental. Add to this the first extant live recording featuring Mickey as a member of the Grateful Dead, and you have a very special release in every way.”

The bonus disc that accompanies the deluxe edition features an unreleased recording of the band’s October 22, 1967 concert at Winterland. In addition to performing songs from the group’s eponymous debut (“Beat It On Down The Line” and “Morning Dew”), they also previewed tracks from Anthem Of The Sun (“New Potato Caboose” and parts of “That’s It For The Other One.”) During this period, the band included: Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann.

(New York, NY - April 19, 2018) The Prince Estate, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Records, has now released the original version of the iconic song "Nothing Compares 2 U". This previously unreleased version was recorded in 1984, six years before 1990's classic reimagining by Sinéad O'Connor and before Prince started performing the song live.  The track was recorded at the Flying Cloud Drive 'Warehouse' in Eden Prairie by Prince's long-time engineer Susan Rogers, and originally composed, arranged and performed in its entirety by Prince, aside from the backing vocals by Susannah Melvoin and Paul "St. Paul" Peterson.  Also featured on the original track is saxophone work by Eric Leeds. The new version of the song will be available to stream, to purchase via digital retailers and as two 7" vinyl singles (in picture disk and standard black vinyl formats).

As remembered by Michael Howe, long-time industry A&R executive, Prince expert, and the Prince Estate's official Vault Archivist, "I spotted the 2" multitrack reel in the Vault some weeks back while doing a 1984-era inventory. After retrieving my jaw from the floor, we took the reel upstairs, analyzed it, put it up on the Studer 24 track machine, and digitized it to 24/192. Even our 'faders up' rough mix was compelling enough to indicate that this was something very special indeed."

Howe continued, "No Prince-penned song performed by another artist has enjoyed more chart success (#1 in 20+ countries) and overall cultural impact than Sinead O'Connor's 1990 recording, so hearing the song in its original context performed in its entirety by the author makes it particularly noteworthy."

The song is accompanied by a video featuring never before seen rehearsal footage of Prince & The Revolution practicing their choreography in that same Eden Prairie warehouse during the same summer of 1984. Captured for Prince as a part of his rehearsal process, the footage is presented for the very first time in a video directed by Andrea Gelardin and Ruth Hogben. The video offers a glimpse into Prince's total commitment to his art and its emotional impact, even when no audience is present. Watch the video HERE

After the successful launch of the Prince HitNRun online pop-up store last November, the Prince Estate is bringing back the concept (www.PrinceHitNRun.com), where the limited edition, picture disk vinyl will be sold exclusively. In addition to the limited edition picture disk vinyl, fans will also be able to purchase a variety of official Prince merchandise, including pieces that draw from his iconic Dirty Mind and Lovesexy eras.  The black vinyl 7" will be available for pre-order from major physical retailers and will be released on Friday 25th May.

The Prince Estate has also launched a new site for fans to showcase what Prince means to them. Prince2Me ( www.Prince2Me.com) is an interactive fan experience that explores what Prince means, individually and collectively to his fans. The Prince Estate has also announced that this will be the first of many online experiences to come, each will shine a new light on his artistry. BLACK SABBATH ANNOUNCE
SUPERSONIC YEARS - THE SEVENTIES SINGLES BOX SET

Limited Edition 7" Vinyl Box Set To Be Released June 8 From Warner Bros. Records

LOS ANGELES - Despite a run of legendary hit singles in the 1970s, Black Sabbath and the seven-inch single format didn't always sit well together. After the release of their debut single "Evil Woman" in 1970, followed by their ultimate explosive chart success with "Paranoid," the band were not comfortable with the confines of the mainstream pop format and the audience it brought them, leading to their now legendary self-imposed ban on releasing singles in the early 70s.

"We didn't intend to make a single in the first place," said Tony Iommi to the Disc and Music Echo in  1971. "But after we'd completed the album, the 'Paranoid' track was sufficiently short to be a 'trailer' for the LP. We really didn't expect it to do anything at all. We don't go into the studio to make singles. We make LPs only. But if there is anything suitable as a result of the recordings, it would be considered, of course."

Black Sabbath's music was vast, expansive and heavy; not the kind of vision that can be easily shackled to the three-minute pop format. Record Mirror ran a story in November of 1970 stating that "Sabbath have decided to place a 'ban' on singles in the future. Their hit, 'Paranoid,' as far as they are concerned is their first and last single. They will also oppose any attempt to draw singles material from future albums."

Black Sabbath's "ban" on singles in their own country lasted for more than two years, and good to their word, no singles were issued from 1971's Master Of Reality, but in 1972, as a harbinger from fourth LP, Vol 4, "Tomorrow's Dream" was issued as a 45 and from then on a steady run of singles followed that showed that, despite Sabbath's initial dislike, many of their songs did lend themselves well to the format.

SUPERSONIC YEARS - THE SEVENTIES SINGLES BOX SET, released June 8 from Warner Bros. Records, documents the band's run of hit singles as never before and features an array of unique content.

• This limited-edition box set includes five rare single edits: "Iron Man" / "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" / "Am I Going Insane (Radio)" / "Hard Road" / "Symptom Of The Universe."

• 10 unique color picture sleeves from around the world, either ultra-rare or exclusive to this box set.

• Remastered by renowned engineer Andy Pearce.

• New liner notes booklet detailing the rarities contained within the box set, along with the story behind the birth and evolution of the most culturally important genre of all time.

The box set features the following singles:

Disc 1: "Evil Woman (Don't Play Your Games With Me)"/"Wicked World" - 1970
Disc 2: "Paranoid"/"The Wizard" - 1970
Disc 3: "Iron Man" (Single Edit)/ "Electric Funeral" - 1970
Disc 4: "Tomorrow's Dream"/"Laguna Sunrise" - 1972

Disc 6: "Am I Going Insane (Radio)" (Single Edit)/ "Hole In The Sky" - 1975
Disc 7: "Gypsy"/"She's Gone" - 1976
Disc 8: "It's Alright"/"Rock 'N' Roll Doctor" - 1976
Disc 9: "Never Say Die"/"She's Gone" - 1978

ZZ TOP ANNOUNCES CINCO NO.2

Cinco No. 2: The Second Five LPs Includes Every Studio Album
The Texas Trio Released Between 1979 And 1990 Pressed On 180-Gram Vinyl

The Five-LP Collection Arrives June 1

LOS ANGELES - ZZ TOP is set to dish out a second heaping helping of analog goodness with the sequel to its previous vinyl set. On the menu this time around are the albums that made "That Little Ol' Band From Texas" global superstars during the 1980s. The collection includes five studio albums pressed on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl, presented in a box the design of which has been inspired by the custom suits made for guitarist Billy F Gibbons' by Hollywood's Jaime Castaneda a/k/a "Jaime The Tailor."

CINCO: THE SECOND FIVE LPs will be available on June 1 from Warner Bros. Records for a suggested retail price of $114.98. Each album features audio sourced from the original masters and boasts artwork that faithfully reproduces the original releases. Before the set arrives, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will hit the road to play some shows, including the band's first residency at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas and, soon thereafter, an extensive tour with John Fogerty.

Between 1979 and 1990, Billy F Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard released five groundbreaking and earth shaking albums including Degüello, El Loco, Eliminator, Afterburner and Recycler.

The new collection picks up where the previous set left off, beginning with the band's 1979 release Degüello. A certified-platinum success, it was the trio's fourth consecutive album to be certified gold or better. The record features several standout songs that remain fan favorites, like "Cheap Sunglasses," "I Thank You" and "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide."

El Loco followed in 1981 and featured radio staples like "Tube Snake Boogie" and "Pearl Necklace." Certified gold, the album also was a turning point for the band's sound, introducing cutting edge contemporary technology into the mix for the first time. Electronica gets its due on ZZ TOP's eighth studio album Eliminator. It went on to become the best-selling record of the band's career so far. One of the few albums ever to have received Diamond Certification from the RIAA in recognition of album sales in excess of 10 million units -- in the U.S. alone. Songs like "Legs," "Sharp Dressed Man," "Got Me Under Pressure" and "Give Me All Your Lovin'" were all massive hits on radio and MTV.

The band's popularity continued to soar with the 1985 release of Afterburner. Certified five-times platinum in America, it includes hits like "Rough Boy," "Velcro Fly" and "Sleeping Bag." The final album featured in the new vinyl collection is Recycler. Released in 1990, it achieved platinum status on the strength of a trio of hit singles: "Doubleback," (as heard on the soundtrack to the film Back To The Future III in which ZZ Top played a version of themselves from the past, "Concrete And Steel" and "My Head's In Mississippi."

EMMYLOU HARRIS: THE BALLAD OF SALLY ROSE

Singer Announces An Expanded Edition Of One Of Her Favorite Albums That Features Remastered Sound And Unreleased Demos On Her Birthday

Available From Rhino On June 1

LOS ANGELES - It is Emmylou Harris' birthday today, and Rhino is celebrating with an expanded edition of one of the singer's most personal albums - The Ballad of Sally Rose.

Harris once called this concept album a country opera. Released in 1985, the song cycle is based loosely on her short time with influential singer-songwriter Gram Parsons, who died in 1973. Known more for singing songs written by others, this was Harris' first self-composed album and it remains one of her favorites.

Rhino revisits this underrated gem with an Expanded Edition that features a newly remastered version of the original album along with unreleased demos for most songs on the album. The two-disc version of THE BALLAD OF SALLY ROSE: EXPANDED EDITION will be available on June 1 for $24.98. The Expanded Edition will also be available on vinyl as a double-LP set for $31.98. The music will be available through digital and streaming services on the same day.

This year's Record Store Day Crawl will take place in Harris' hometown of Birmingham, Alabama on May 19. As a part of the celebration, the vinyl album will be available starting that day, exclusively at all independent retailers in advance of the national release date. For more information, please visit https://www.recordstorecrawl.com/exclusives.

For years, Harris used the name Sally Rose as an alias on tour. So when she started writing songs about a singer whose lover and mentor - a hard-living, hard-drinking musician - is killed while on the road, the name Sally Rose was a natural fit.

Harris says the idea for the album had been brewing for years, but she needed time away from the road to write. "That happened in 1982, when, after hearing and being stunned by Bruce Springsteen's masterpiece, Nebraska, I realized it was time to leave my comfort zone as interpreter, and follow Sally's muse into the unknown territory of full-time songwriter."

Highlights from The Ballad of Sally Rose include the singles "White Line" - which reached #14 on the country charts - and "Rhythm Guitar" with Waylon Jennings on lead guitar. In addition, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt sing harmony throughout the album. Two years later, the friends and frequent collaborators would release their first album together, Trio, which sold more than four million copies and won two Grammy Awards.

The Expanded Edition's bonus disc introduces unreleased demo recordings for 10 tracks. Most feature Harris accompanying herself on acoustic guitar giving these versions a stripped-back intimacy. In the liner notes, Grammy-winning music writer Colin Escott says the demos are the Nebraska edition of Sally Rose. "Stark and haunting. Vulnerability and resilience, always her hallmarks, were never closer to the surface."
