The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers: The Complete Recordings
Available Tomorrow

LOS ANGELES – The Lord of the Rings trilogy remains one of most successful films in cinematic history. Based on the popular J.R.R. Tolkien novel of the same name, The Lord of the Rings was directed by Peter Jackson with a score composed by Howard Shore and earned a total of 17 Academy Awards®. Three of those awards were for the film’s music which enjoyed wide commercial success and has collectively sold seven million copies.

To help celebrate International Tolkien Week (September 14-22) and International Hobbit Day (September 22), Rhino will release the third and final soundtrack from the Trilogy on September 21. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS will be released on vinyl for the first time as a 6-LP boxed set ($134.98). Housed in a collector’s box with a green leather-style spine, the collection is limited to 8,000 individually numbered copies on green vinyl. The soundtrack will also be available as a 4-CD set ($84.98), plus 1-Blu-ray audio disc containing the entire sore in high-resolution 5.1 surround sound, a reactivation of the 2007 box set featuring the entire score from the extended versions of the film. Both versions come with extensive liner notes from author Doug Adams, who analyzes many of the themes and motifs used throughout the score.

The music for all three films was composed, orchestrated and conducted by Howard Shore. The music he wrote for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra with contributions from the choirs: The London Voices and The London Oratory School Schola Boys Choir.

The album was certified gold in the U.S. and the U.K. and won two Academy Awards® for Best Original Score and for Best Original Song with “Into the West” performed by Annie Lennox; two Golden Globe Awards® for Best Original Score and Song; and two Grammy Awards® for Best Score Soundtrack Album and Song Written for a Motion Picture.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS is the third in a series of three releases that also includes The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) which was released on April 6 and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) which is out tomorrow, July 27.

There’s probably never been as ambitious a film score as Howard Shore’s 10-hour epic for the “Lord of the Rings” series... the music is rich and complex, drawing on a vast range of styles and exotic instruments to evoke J.R.R. Tolkien’s world of elves, hobbits and warlocks... Shore uses an elaborate leitmotif technique (where musical themes are associated with specific characters or ideas, and are developed across the entire series) to hold the sprawling tale together. Lush, beautiful and full of intriguing surprises, it’s no wonder that it’s become one of the most popular film scores ever written. - Stephen Brookes for the Washington Post, May, 2008

Founding Guitarist Wayne Kramer Publishes Memoir With Da Capo Press
August 14 Before 50th Anniversary World Tour

LOS ANGELES – The MC5 only released three albums, but they were ferocious, adventurous, and confrontational enough to secure the group’s place as one of the greatest rock ’n’ roll bands ever. This year is the 50th anniversary of the recording of the band’s incendiary debut, Kick Out The Jams, which was recorded live over two nights at Detroit’s Grande Ballroom in October 1968. To celebrate, Rhino will release MC5 TOTAL ASSAULT: 50TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION, a limited-edition boxed set that features all three of the band’s albums pressed on colored vinyl.

In addition, MC5 co-founder and guitarist Wayne Kramer will release his memoir The Hard Stuff: Dope, Crime, the MC5, and My Life of Impossibilities on August 14 before hitting the road with the MC50, an all-star band that includes Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty, and Zen Guerrilla frontman Marcus Durant, as well as Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron on drums and super producer Don Was on bass at select dates. The group will perform Kick Out The Jams in its entirety, along with other MC5 classics.

MC5 TOTAL ASSAULT: 50th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION will be available on September 21 for $59.98. It includes Kick Out The Jams (red vinyl), Back In The USA (white vinyl) and High Time (blue vinyl). The albums come in sleeves that faithfully re-create the original releases, including gatefolds for Kick Out The Jams and High Times. All three are housed in a hard slipcase with new art and previously unseen photographs by world renowned photographer Raeanne Rubenstein.

The set also includes a new essay by Creem magazine founding editor/writer Jaan Uhelszki, who writes: “Turned loose on a bare stage, the MC5 were among the most awe-inspiring perpetrators of sheer bombast and rock and roll brinkmanship alive…They tore through the stuff they heard on the radio with a fierce intensity that transcended the original artists’ intent. Tunes by James Brown, Chuck Berry, the Kinks and the Rolling Stones vibrated at a higher frequency when the Motor City Five tackled them.”

Singer Rob Tyner, guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred “Sonic” Smith, bassist Michael Davis, and drummer Dennis Thompson came together as the MC5 in 1965. The band performed for several years before making its first record. The music on TOTAL ASSAULT shows why the MC5 is held is such high regard today with indelible tracks like “Kick Out The Jams,” “Human Being Lawnmower” and “Sister Anne.”

LOS ANGELES - Parlophone Records are proud to announce DAVID BOWIE LOVING THE ALIEN (1983-1988), the fourth in a series of boxed sets spanning his career from 1969.

The follow-up to the awarding winning and critically acclaimed David Bowie Five Years (1969-1973), David Bowie Who Can I Be Now? (1974-1976), and David Bowie A New Career In A New Town (1977-1982) will be released on October 12.

DAVID BOWIE LOVING THE ALIEN (1983-1988) will contain a brand new production of the 1987 album Never Let Me Down by Bowie producer / engineer Mario McNulty with new instrumentation by Bowie collaborators Reeves Gabrels (guitar), David Torn (guitar), Sterling Campbell (drums), Tim Lefebvre (bass) as well as string quartet with arrangements by Nico Muhly and a guest cameo by Laurie Anderson on "Shining Star (Makin' My Love)."

The 11-CD box, 15-LP vinyl set, and standard digital download boxed set is named after the opening track from the Tonight album and includes newly remastered versions of David's most commercially successful period Let's Dance, Tonight, Never Let Me Down (Original and 2018 Versions), the live album Glass Spider (Live Montreal '87), the previously unreleased Serious Moonlight live album, a collection of original remixes entitled Dance and the non-album / alternate version / b-sides and soundtrack music compilation Re:Call 4.

Exclusive to each of the boxed sets is Never Let Me Down (2018), a new production of the 1987 album. The seeds of this new reimagining of the albums were first sown in 2008 when Bowie asked McNulty to remix the track "Time Will Crawl" and record new drums by longtime Bowie drummer Sterling Campbell along with strings. The track was issued on the iSelect compilation to much acclaim and, in the notes for that record, David remarked "Oh, to redo the rest of that album."

Fast-forward to early 2018, McNulty entered Electric Lady Studios in New York with Campbell, Lefebvre on bass, who was in the ★ ("Blackstar") band, and Gabrels and Torn on guitars.  All of the musicians had a history with Bowie, so were a perfect fit for what now sound like brand new songs. Muhly, whom McNulty first met when they were both interns working for Philip Glass in 2001, has handled the string arrangements.

The new re-workings have revealed Never Let Me Down as a very strong collection of songs with a dark thematic thread running through them. Fans listening to Never Let Me Down (2018) would be forgiven for thinking that they were listening to a brand new "lost" Bowie record. A radio edit of the new 2018 version of "Zeroes" is available now as digital single and will be released as a double a-side limited edition 7" picture disc, paired with a radio edit of "Beat On Your Drum" (2018), on September 7.

This 2018 version of the album will also feature newly "remixed" artwork reflecting the album's subject matter and features unseen images from the original cover photographic session from the archive of Greg Gorman.

Also in each box is the never before released Serious Moonlight live album recorded in Montreal in 1983. Originally mixed at the time by Bob Clearmountain, the double album captures Bowie on what at that time was his most successful tour. The artwork features shots taken by photographer Denis O'Regan.

Also included is the 2-CD/3-LP Glass Spider (Live Montreal '87) album, making its debut on vinyl (which is exclusive to the LP box). The tour's innovative set and marriage of music and theatre has been cited as a big inspiration to acts in the 2000s. Speaking in 1991 about Glass Spider, Bowie said, "It was the first time I'd had the opportunity to spend that kind of money and do shows like that! The first time since Diamond Dogs, anyway ... I thought, Right! Let's really spend some money! I had all these thwarted dreams of what I'd tried to do with rock 'n roll in the early '70s."

Exclusive to each box is Re:Call 4 and Dance. The former a new compilation featuring remastered contemporary single versions, non-album singles, album edits, b-sides and songs featured on soundtracks such as Labyrinth, Absolute Beginners, and When The Wind BlowsDance features 12 contemporaneous remixes, some of which are appearing on CD and vinyl for the first time, and is named after an unreleased Bowie remix album that was originally slated for release in November 1985.

The physical boxed set's accompanying book, 128-pages in the CD box and 84 in the vinyl set, will feature rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographers including O'Regan, Gorman, Herb Ritts and many others as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums from producers/engineers Nile Rodgers, Hugh Padgham, McNulty and Justin Shirley-Smith.

The CD boxed set will include faithfully reproduced mini-vinyl versions of the original albums, and the CDs will be gold colored rather than the usual silver. The vinyl boxed set has the same content as the CD set and is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl. As well as Never Let Me Down (2018), Dance and Re:Call 4, both Serious Moonlight  (Live '83) and Glass Spider (Live Montreal '87).

He has been a member one of one of Britain's most significant rock bands and one of the world's biggest male solo stars, but Phil Collins was always eager to collaborate with an eclectic range of artists. Spanning drums, vocals, production, songwriting, and more, Phil Collins' many talents have been employed by some of his biggest musical heroes.

Now Phil Collins has compiled a 59-track collection of his collaborative highlight in the shape of PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS. The compilation will be released as a 4-CD boxed set and as a digital download on September 28. The following week, Collins will begin his "Not Dead Yet, Live!" tour on October 5 in Ft. Lauderdale, his first major North American tour in 12 years. Full itinerary listed below.

It's a boxed set about the byways of a career that stretches from the ersatz psychedelia of Flaming Youth, through the legendary 70s recordings with Brand X, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp and John Cale and into the superstar era of the 80s, when Collins became the go-to man for legends in need of a fresh lease of life. It extends into the years when he had the status to do whatever he wanted. Form a big band with Quincy Jones conducting and Tony Bennett singing? Why the hell not!

The title comes from a joke gift that happened to contain a profound truth. Chester Thompson, the man who became Genesis's day-to-day drummer once Collins had become the frontman, arranged to have a special birthday present made for him. It wasn't a hugely expensive gift - just a t-shirt. On the front, Thompson had a slogan printed to reflect his bandmate's willingness to take his drums along to pretty much any session, his pleasure in working as a producer to help musicians he respected make the records they wanted: "Plays well with others."

Collins started branching out in the mid-70s to delve into parts of his musical taste that didn't fit with Genesis's sound. The band's producer John Anthony recognized Collins as a musician with the appetite and ability to adapt to different musical environments. "He was producing all kinds of records, and he would use me because he loves good drumming," remembers Collins. "We used to go into Trident Studios at midnight, just for the fun of playing, and go home at six or seven in the morning. I enjoyed the possibility of just playing and occasionally being paid for it, and occasionally not. It wasn't for money, it was just for the hell of playing."

Working on Peter Gabriel's third solo album resulted in Collins and engineer Hugh Padgham stumbling across the gated reverb drum sound that would dominate 80s pop. That was first heard on Gabriel's track "Intruder" and later when hit the charts when used in the drum fill in Collins' signature hit "In The Air Tonight."

In the wake of his solo success with the Face Value album, Collins became sought after by already successful artists who needed to do something different, helping Adam Ant, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, and Abba's Frida into new eras in their careers.

PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS is a set that captures the dizzying variety of one of the most successful stories in music history. That's what has earned him the respect of so many musicians of so many different genres - the Urban Renewal tribute album, represented here by Lil' Kim, being a classic example.

3CD/1 Vinyl LP Deluxe Edition Of The Band's Fourth Album
Features Two Mixes Of The Original, Plus Unreleased Studio And Live Recordings

Listen To The Previously Unreleased Alternate Take Of "I Wanna Be Sedated" HERE

Available From Rhino On September 21

LOS ANGELES - The Ramones released the band's fourth studio album, Road To Ruin , 40 years ago this September. Dee Dee, Joey, and Johnny were joined for the first time by drummer Marky Ramone, who replaced founding member Tommy Ramone, who'd left to do more producing and writing for the band. It was also the album that introduced a nation of pinheads to the all-time Ramones' classic "I Wanna Be Sedated."

To celebrate the milestone, Rhino will release two versions on September 21, a day before the anniversary of the album's original release on September 22, 1978. The 3CD/1LP boxed set ROAD TO RUIN: 40th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION will be available for $64.98. A newly remastered version of the original album will also be released as a single CD for $7.98. Both titles will also be available digitally and via streaming services. Listen to the previously unreleased "Take 2 (Basic Rough Mix)" of "I Wanna Be Sedated" HERE.

ROAD TO RUIN: 40th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION contains two different mixes of the album, unissued rough mixes for every album track, and an unreleased 1979 concert recording of the Ramones in New York. It will be produced in a limited and numbered edition of 7,500 copies worldwide and comes packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book. Along with the music, the set also features rare photos and artwork, including the unused, alternate cover image, plus essays by former New York Rocker writer Roy Trakin, album cover artist John Holmstrom, and Road To Ruin producer Ed Stasium, who details the making of this classic record.

The first disc of the ROAD TO RUIN: 40th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION features a remastered version of the original stereo mix for Road To Ruin and a new 2018 40th Anniversary Road Revisited mix created by Stasium, who strips off the original record's commercial gloss and restores the album to its punk rock core. Stasium's new mix is also featured on the 180-gram LP that accompanies this deluxe edition.

The second disc offers up over twenty unreleased recordings, including rough mixes for every album track, starkly different alternate takes of two songs, and two unreleased outtakes: "I Walk Out" and "S.L.U.G." - unfinished during the original recording sessions in 1978, and completed by Stasium for this anniversary release. Other highlights include three different versions of "I Wanna Be Sedated," including the "Ramones-on-45-Mega-Mix!" released in 1988 as part of the campaign for the Ramones Mania compilation, as well as acoustic versions of "Questioningly," "Needles And Pins," and "Don't Come Close."

The final disc has a previously unreleased recording of the band's entire 1979 New Year's Eve concert, which was mixed live by Stasium, and broadcast on WNEW-FM. Recorded in New York City at The Palladium, with audio sourced from Tommy Ramone's original cassette of the console recording, it features blistering performances of "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Rockaway Beach," and "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker," along with several songs from Road To Ruin: "I Don't Want You," "I Wanna Be Sedated," and "I Wanted Everything."
