LOS ANGELES – In the wake of Whitesnake’s massive global success, the band’s founder and lead singer, David Coverdale, set out to record his third solo album in 1995. However, the plan was derailed when pressure from his record label forced him to change course and release Restless Heart under the David Coverdale & Whitesnake moniker. Despite the changes, the 1997 album was a Top 40 hit in the U.K. Surprisingly, the record was never released in the U.S. That will change this fall when Rhino introduces several versions of Restless Heart, including a four-disc boxed set.

RESTLESS HEART: SUPER DELUXE EDITION will be available on October 29 for $64.98 and is available for pre-order now. The 4-CD/DVD collection features newly remastered and remixed versions of the original album, along with unreleased demos and studio outtakes. The DVD includes music videos and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album with new interviews from David Coverdale. The set comes with a hardbound book filled with rare and unseen photos from the era.

Three additional versions of Restless Heart will be available the same day. First is a 2-CD Deluxe Edition that includes the new remix plus the original album, newly remastered ($24.98). Next is a 2-LP Deluxe Edition pressed on 180-gram silver vinyl that features the newly remixed album ($31.98). And finally, there is a 1-CD version which again features the newly remixed album ($14.98). In addition, all of the music will be available digitally through streaming services.

RESTLESS HEART: SUPER DELUXE EDITION opens with a newly remixed version of the album that’s closer to the sound Coverdale initially intended for his new solo release. It’s followed by a newly remastered version of Restless Heart, including the singles “Too Many Tears” and “Don’t Fade Away,” plus three bonus tracks from the album’s original Japanese release. Featured musicians include Adrian Vandenberg, Denny Carmassi, Guy Pratt and in addition, guitarist Joel Hoekstra and keyboardist Derek Sherinian who bring their exceptional talents to the party.

The following two discs reveal how Restless Heart evolved, starting with early pre-production versions of every album track to later takes of those songs.

The DVD features several music videos (“Too Many Tears” and “Restless Heart”) plus the Making of the Album featurette. There is also a video EP featuring the three relevant songs from the 1997 live acoustic album, Starkers In Tokyo, originally only available in Japan.

WAR UPGRADES TO GREATEST HITS 2.0

Career-Spanning 2-CD And 2-LP Sets Available On October 29 Feature Legendary Songs Like “Spill The Wine,” “Low Rider,” “Galaxy,” And “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”

The Band’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Continues This Month With Two Streaming Events On YouTube With Founding/Current Member Lonnie Jordan

LOS ANGELES – WAR’s head-nodding mix of music and message started a revolution 50 years ago that continues to win over the hearts and hips of fans around the world. The group’s anniversary celebration continues this month with two streaming events. They’ll be followed in October by the release of GREATEST HITS 2.0, a new, career-spanning collection that expands on WAR’s platinum-certified 1976 greatest hits album.

It began on July 16 when WAR’s 2007 concert at the Grove in Anaheim was streamed in its entirety on www.YouTube.com/war. During the event, Lonnie Jordan (a founding and current member of WAR) and WAR producer/songwriter Jerry Goldstein shared their memories of the concert and answered fan’s questions in the chat section.

Tomorrow, a newly-produced retrospective celebrating 50 years of WAR will be streamed on www.YouTube.com/war at 3 p.m. EST, culminating in a live sing-a-long event bringing fans from all over the world together online. It features a Q&A session with Lonnie Jordan and Jerry Goldstein, who helped start the band and produced all of its albums. Other highlights include testimonials from artists influenced by WAR, a sing-a-long opportunity with the newly upgraded 4K video for “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” and an exclusive preview of WAR’s GREATEST HITS 2.0.

Rhino will release GREATEST HITS 2.0 on October 29 as a 2-CD set ($14.98) and a 2-LP set ($31.98). The collection will also be available on all digital download and streaming services and is available for pre-order now.

The CD version has 24 tracks recorded between 1970 and 1994, including the gold-certified singles “Slipping Into Darkness,” “The World Is A Ghetto,” “The Cisco Kid,” and “Summer.” Another gold single, “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” stayed on the charts for 31 weeks and became the soundtrack to the US-Soviet space mission where astronauts and cosmonauts linked up in the spirit of friendship. In the modern era, it has been streamed more than 100 million times. Also included is the #1 R&B smash “Low Rider,” which was inducted into the Grammy® Hall of Fame in 2014. The LP version is slightly shorter with 20 tracks. (See below for LP and CD track listings.)

In the collection’s liner notes, Los Angeles Times columnist Gustavo Arellano says GREATEST HITS 2.0 does more than capture WAR at its creative and commercial peaks. He writes: “All the big hits are here, of course, in chronological order from the Eric Burdon days up through cuts from 1982’s underrated Outlaw…But what I love about this collection is that it’s a symphonic suite for a perfect Southern California Sunday afternoon, the kind the rest of the world wants to experience but can only dream about. You can envision it by playing these albums from start to finish.”

WAR was created in the late-1960s by producer/songwriter Jerry Goldstein and British singer Eric Burdon, who was then living in Los Angeles and eager to seek out new collaborators after several years with The Animals. Goldstein spotted the musicians who would become WAR playing clubs in L.A. Soon after, Burdon started playing shows with the band and he clicked with the musicians, who were able to back his improvisational flights-of-fancy with the ease of jazz masters. Originally billed as Eric Burdon and WAR, the group would record three albums together: with Eric Burdon Declares “War” (which featured the hit “Spill The Wine”), and the double album, The Black-Man’s Burdon being released to great acclaim followed a number of years later with the vault release of Love Is All Around.

After Burdon left the group in 1971, WAR spun-off on without him, and its career took on a life of its own as its popularity skyrocketed thanks to three consecutive #1 R&B albums: The World Is A Ghetto (Billboard’s best-selling album of 1973), Deliver The Word and Why Can’t We Be Friends?.

COLOR ME BADD CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF C.M.B.

The Quartet Expands Its Triple-Platinum Debut Album With Seven Tracks Making Their Digital Debut, Including Remixes For “I Wanna Sex You Up” and “I Adore Mi Amor”

Available Digitally From Rhino On July 23

LOS ANGELES – Color Me Badd’s debut album, C.M.B., was an instant smash when it came out in July 1991. It raced to #3 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the album chart for 77 weeks. The record was certified triple platinum in the U.S., where five hit singles fueled its long-running success: “I Wanna Sex You Up” (#2), “I Adore Mi Amor” (#1), “All 4 Love” (#1), “Thinkin’ Back” (#16), and “Slow Motion” (#18).

The album turns 30 this month, and Rhino is celebrating with a new digital version that includes several tracks that have never been available digitally. C.M.B.: 30th ANNIVERSARY EXPANDED EDITION will be available from digital and streaming services on July 23.

The new 19-track collection has all 12 songs from the original release, including the singles “Color Me Badd” and “Heartbreaker.” The seven bonus tracks feature a selection of songs taken from the band’s 1992 album, Young, Gifted, & Badd: The Remixes. The songs making their digital debut include “I Wanna Sex You Up” (Howie Tee Remix), “I Adore Mi Amor” (Hamza’s Mix Version), “C.M.B” (Postlude), and “Roll The Dice” (Nick Mundy Remix). The new digital album also features the Top 20 hit, “Forever Love,” which was included on Young, Gifted, & Badd: The Remixes, as well as the Mo’ Money soundtrack.

Singers Mark Calderon, Bryan Abrams, Sam Watters, and Kevin Thornton formed Color Me Badd in 1985 in Oklahoma City, OK. After relocating to New York City, the quartet was signed to Giant Records in 1990. Working with producer Dr. Freeze, Color Me Badd originally recorded “I Wanna Sex You Up” for the New Jack City soundtrack. The song was the biggest hit from the soundtrack, hitting #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. As a result, the band quickly recorded and released C.M.B.

The album would go on to sell more than six million copies worldwide. In addition to its commercial success, Color Me Badd was nominated for two GRAMMY® Awards in 1992 for Best New Artist and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The same year, the group won two awards at the sixth annual Soul Train Music Awards for Best R&B/Soul Single by a Group, Band or Duo, and R&B/Soul Song of the Year for “I Wanna Sex You Up.” The song also earned the group a win at the American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Single.

The set includes previously unreleased concerts recorded on: December 9 and 10, 1971 at the Fox Theatre; October 17-19, 1972 at the Fox Theatre; and October 29 and 30, 1973 at Kiel Auditorium. Each show was restored, and speed corrected using Plangent Processes with mastering by Jeffrey Norman.

Dead.net will also exclusively release LIGHT INTO ASHES: FOX THEATRE, ST. LOUIS, MO (10/18/72) as a double-LP on 180-gram custom vinyl for $44.98. Limited to 7,200 copies, the set features an exceptional hour-plus jam plucked from the Grateful Dead’s October 18, 1972 show at the Fox.

On the same day, the December 10, 1971 Fox Theatre show from the boxed set will be released individually on CD, LP, and digitally at traditional retail outlets. FOX THEATRE, ST. LOUIS, MO (12/10/71) will be available as a 3-CD set ($34.98), a 5-LP limited edition on 180-gram vinyl (12,000 copies, $119.98) and digitally.

LISTEN TO THE RIVER: ST. LOUIS ’71 ’72 ’73 comes in a slipcase with artwork designed by Liane Plant and features an 84-page hardbound book as well as other Dead surprises. To set the stage for the music, the liner notes provide several essays about the shows, including one by Sam Cutler, the band’s tour manager during that era, and another by Grateful Dead scholar Nicholas G. Meriwether, among others.

“There are a only few truly great eras in the Grateful Dead's performing history that span more than a year and one of the very best is the transitional period that covers December 1971 through Fall of 1973. This was a period during which the Dead solidified their touring format (several distinct, somewhat short, geographically defined tours every year), where every night the Dead would wow their fans with a mix of over six years of music that clearly demonstrated their many transitions and transmutations,” says David Lemieux, Grateful Dead archivist and the set’s producer. “The seven shows in this boxed set perfectly summarize 22 months of Grateful Dead music, performances, and growth. From the original five piece (plus Keith) showing off their Skull & Roses musical flexibility and discipline in December 1971, through the Europe '72 iteration of the Dead in October 1972, to the independent Wake Of The Flood Dead of October 1973, this boxed set features the band at three distinct peaks, that show an inspired band that was always looking to grow and take their fans along for the ride. For loyal Dead Heads, sticking around through the Dead's many growth spurts was always worth it as the payoff was always greater than its already lofty promise. And what better city to focus these show selections on than St. Louis, which always brought out the very best in the Grateful Dead.”

The seven shows in the collection span slightly less than two years, but they represent some of the best shows the Grateful Dead played during some of its best tours. The music tells the story of a band evolving, changing from one sound to another seamlessly, precipitated – in large part – by significant personnel changes in the Dead’s lineup.

The two 1971 shows feature the original Grateful Dead lineup of Jerry Garcia, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Bob Weir, and newcomer Keith Godchaux on piano. This version of the band would hold together for the next six months as the Dead embarked upon its Europe ’72 tour. By the time the Dead returned to the Fox Theatre less than a year later, they were without Pigpen, who’d played his final show with the Dead at the Hollywood Bowl on June 17, 1972. A year after the exceptional Fox 1972 shows, the Dead came back to St. Louis, but played the much larger Kiel Auditorium, touring behind the release of Wake Of The Flood, which came out just two weeks before the Kiel shows.

All told, the band played 60 different songs during these shows highlighted by blazing romps through “Beat It On Down The Line” and “One More Saturday Night” and wistful takes on “Row Jimmy” and “Brokedown Palace” (whose lyrics give the collection its name). Meanwhile, the copious jamming ebbed and flowed like the Mighty Mississippi River on multiple voyages through “The Other One” and “Dark Star.” Naturally, the band paid tribute to one of its favorite rock and rollers and one of St. Louis’ biggest stars by playing Chuck Berry songs at every show in the collection, including Pigpen galloping through “Run Rudolph Run.”

An exclusive line of Grateful Dead St. Louis-themed merchandise also launched today at dead.net including apparel, leather lighter case, vinyl slipmat, tapestry, and more.

12” Vinyl Singles Collector's Edition Boxed Set Series Continues With Release Of Ultra | The 12" Singles On September 10

Depeche Mode 12" vinyl singles project continues with the release of ULTRA | THE 12" SINGLES on September 10 and is available for pre-order now. ULTRA | THE 12" SINGLES, a collector's edition deluxe boxed set, contains eight 12" vinyl discs presenting four singles - “Barrel of a Gun,” “It's No Good,” “Home,” and “Useless,” with key B-sides, mixes and live recordings contemporaneous to Depeche Mode's ninth studio album, Ultra, originally released April 14, 1997.

Three of the 12" vinyl discs in ULTRA | THE 12" SINGLES are comprised of tracks first released across CD singles throughout 1997. These new discs feature artwork reflecting the original CD single releases to create newly compiled 12" discs that complement the initial releases.

The group's first album as a trio (Martin Gore, David Gahan, Andrew Fletcher) since 1982's A Broken Frame, Ultra carried on Depeche Mode's tradition of releasing monumental 12" singles to supplement and complement their albums. Ultra premiered essential additions to the DM canon, including "Barrel of a Gun," "It's No Good," "Home," and "Useless."

From their earliest days as a band, Depeche Mode has championed 12" vinyl, embracing the format's singular power and potential for innovation. The 12" single allowed the band to explore new sonic possibilities while the tactile real-world beauty of physical packaging gave Depeche Mode room to develop their sophisticated and commanding design aesthetic. Depeche Mode used their singles discography as a means of offering left-field remixes, rare B-sides, standout concert performances, and other exclusive delights for fans.

Rhino released the first two boxed sets in the Depeche Mode 12" singles series: Speak & Spell | The Singles and A Broken Frame | The Singles--in August 2018 with the second batch--Construction Time Again | The 12" Singles and Some Great Reward | The 12" Singles--arriving in December 2018. Rhino released Depeche Mode's Black Celebration | The 12" Singles and Music For The Masses | The 12" Singles on May 31, 2019. 2020 saw the release of Violator | The 12" Singles in July and Songs of Faith and Devotion | The 12" Singles in October.

Each boxed set in the series contains the singles from each Depeche Mode album on audiophile-quality 12" vinyl, with audio mastered from the original tapes. The artwork for the exterior of each of the box sets draws on iconography inspired by the original releases, while the vinyl sleeves themselves feature the original single artwork.

The Depeche Mode 12" Singles Series will continue over coming years, with plans to release boxes containing the singles from each of the band's albums in similar deluxe audiophile-grade collector's editions.
