MARILLION – FUGAZI (DELUXE EDITION)

3-CD/Blu-Ray And 4-LP Deluxe Editions Of Marillion’s Acclaimed Second Studio Album Out On September 10

In March 1984, Marillion released their second studio album Fugazi, which went on to be certified Gold and reached Number 5 in the UK albums charts. The classic album spawned two singles “Assassing” and “Punch & Judy,” both reaching #22 and #29 on the UK singles charts respectively.

FUGAZI will be celebrated in two versions as a 4-LP boxed set and as a 3-CD/Blu-ray book and will be released on September 10. Rhino.com also has limited quantities of both the 3-CD/Blu-ray available for pre-order here and 4-LP sets here. The music will also be available digitally and for streaming on the same day. Fugazi was the first Marillion album to feature Ian Mosley on drums and percussion, replacing Mick Pointer after the highly successful Script For A Jester’s Tear. It also included Fish, Steve Rothery, Pete Trewavas and Mark Kelly.

Both sets open with brand new 2021 remixed stereo versions by Andy Bradfield and Avril Mackintosh, who also remixed the deluxe editions of Script For A Jester’s Tear and Clutching At Straws. They also include a show from The Spectrum, a concert hall in Montreal, Canada recorded in 1984. The performance includes fan favorites from both Fugazi and their debut album Script For A Jester’s Tear in the form of tracks such as “Jigsaw,” “Incubus,” “He Knows You Know,” “Chelsea Monday” and many more. It also features a performance of the B-side “Charting The Single.”

The Blu-ray features 96k/24-bit versions of both the new Fugazi stereo remix and the Live at The Spectrum, Montreal, Canada concert and contains a 5.1 surround sound version of the new 2021 stereo remix of “Fugazi.”

The Blu-ray also contains a compelling look at the fascinating story behind FUGAZI in a new documentary, entitled The Performance Has Just Begun, which features all the band members talking about how the album came to fruition. This is followed by the band giving an insightful track-by-track commentary of the album, as well as the music video of “Assassing” with both the original and remixed audio.

LYKKE LI ANNOUNCES 10TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE REISSUE OF

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ALBUM WOUNDED RHYMES

(July 12, 2021) - Today, LA-based, vocalist, producer, and songwriter Lykke Li announces the 10th Anniversary deluxe reissue of her seminal album Wounded Rhymes. The digital deluxe edition is out this Friday, July 16 with the vinyl edition out Friday, October 15. The reissue features unreleased demo versions of “Youth Knows No Pain,” “Jerome,” “I Follow Rivers” and for the first time ever on DSPs a remix of “I Follow Rivers” by Tyler, the Creator. Fans can pre-order the vinyl reissue here: https://LykkeLi.lnk.to/woundedrhymes

The critically acclaimed album was produced by Bjorn Yttling and named one of the Best Albums of 2011 by The New York Times, Pitchfork, Entertainment Weekly, The Guardian, Clash, Paste, SPIN, and more. The album yielded singles “I Follow Rivers,” “Get Some,” “Sadness is a Blessing,” and “Youth Knows No Pain.”

Praise of Wounded Rhymes:

Pitchfork writer Stephen M. Deusner viewed Wounded Rhymes as "an album of stark, scintillating contrasts: between fantasy and reality, between the powerful and the vulnerable, between the brash and the quiet, between the rhythmic and the melodic."

PopMatters described it as "a dark record, borne of lost love and youthful frustrations, more suited in tone to the frozen lake country than the haze of sunny SoCal. It means this is a seriously heavy and seriously excellent album."

Sean Fennessey of Spin stated that the album is "equal parts seething ice princess and lonely snowwoman, vacillating almost track by track between fury and despondence over a scotched relationship", adding that "the dual objectives—weep for me, fear me—collide throughout, creating a dicey, but gripping album."

Rolling Stone critic Jody Rosen asserted “Lykke Li is a different kind of Swedish wunderkind: an ingenious oddball.”

AV Club critic Chris Martins expressed, “At her core, this new snarling, burned Lykke Li is unfamiliar, perhaps even to herself, but it’s to our benefit. We get to meet her all over again.”

The Long-Awaited Brand New Album From Gerry Rafferty Available Digitally On September 3

Listen To The First Single “Slow Down” Today

On September 3, Gerry Rafferty will posthumously release the album REST IN BLUE. The 14-track record will be Rafferty’s 11th solo studio album and features artwork by long-time collaborator and friend John Byrne.

From 2006, Rafferty started work on a new album on and off, but sadly passed away in 2011. His daughter, Martha Rafferty, sought to complete a project started by her father, culminating in REST IN BLUE. Many of the demos left by Rafferty included multiple layers of synths, which Martha stripped back to showcase his immense vocal ability. The result is an album brimming with raw emotion, and a quintessential collection of blues, rock, and folk. Some of the demos date back as far as 1970, many of which Rafferty had singled out as potential tracks for his new album.

With elements of the songs written at varying parts of Rafferty’s career, the album tackles a variety of topics including, climate change on “Sign Of The Times,” questioning the legality of war in “Lost Highway,” and addressing problems with his alcoholism in the emotively honest “Still In Denial.” As well as many brand-new originals penned by Rafferty, the album features popular traditional folk songs such as “Wild Mountain Thyme” and “Dirty Old Town.” It also features a cover of Richard & Linda Thompson’s “It’s Just The Motion,” an artist Rafferty was a big admirer of. The album finishes with a re-record of the Stealers Wheel classic “Stuck In The Middle With You” recorded back in the 90s, which gives the track a fresh, country-inspired interpretation.

REST IN BLUE called upon many musicians that had worked closely with Rafferty throughout his career. One of which is guitarist Hugh Burns, who played on a vast amount of Rafferty’s catalog, including the powerful guitar solo on “Baker Street.” Renowned vocalist Katie Kissoon performed backing vocals on many of the tracks, having previously worked with the likes of Eric Clapton, Roger Waters, George Michael, and many more. REST IN BLUE also features Alan Clark, formerly of Dire Straits, on piano and the Hammond organ, alongside many other incredible musicians. Whilst the album features many long-time collaborators, it also features bright, upcoming talent in the form of producer Tambala, who co-produced and mixed the track “Slow Down,” the album’s first single which is available to listen to now.

With hits such as “Baker Street,” “Right Down The Line” and “Night Owl,” Gerry Rafferty is one of Scotland’s and the UK’s finest songwriters and musicians in history. He first found success as part of the band The Humblebums, which included beloved comedian, actor and musician Billy Connolly. Rafferty went on to form Stealers Wheel with old school friend Joe Egan, who produced a number of successful albums alongside the rock classic “Stuck In The Middle With You,” a track which has transcended generations with notable syncs in films such as Tarantino’s Resevoir Dogs, and is still widely popular to this day. Following his departure from Stealers Wheel, Rafferty relaunched his solo career in 1978 with the album City To City, including hits such as “Right Down The Line” and “Baker Street,” which features the iconic saxophone solo by Raphael Ravenscroft. Rafferty went on to release ten studio albums, solidifying his status one of the finest musicians and songwriters to come out of the UK.

LOS ANGELES – Tomorrow will be the 50th anniversary of Joni Mitchell’s masterpiece, Blue. To celebrate, Rhino is releasing two new collections that offer different perspectives on one of the greatest albums ever made and the inspired period of creativity that made it possible.

Rhino kicks off the celebration today with the release of Blue 50 (Demos & Outtakes), a digital EP that debuts five unreleased recordings from the making of Blue that will appear on the upcoming Archives collection. The striking cover of the BLUE 50 EP features the original Blue color treatment with a previously unseen alternate photo of Mitchell by Tim Considine from the same show as the original.

Each track on Blue 50 (Demos & Outtakes) is a standout, including the demos for “California” and an early version of “A Case Of You” that features different lyrics from those heard on the final album. There are also two alternate takes on the EP. The first is a version of “River” that adds French horns, unlike the album version, which features Mitchell solo on piano. The other alternate take is for “Urge For Going.” Mitchell originally wrote the song in the mid-Sixties and often included in her early live sets. She later revisited the song during the sessions for Blue, recording a version that included strings, that differs from the version that was later released as the b-side to her 1972 hit “You Turn Me On, I’m A Radio.” The final unreleased song is the studio recording for “Hunter,” another song that was cut from Blue at the last minute that Mitchell later performed live but never officially released on an album.

All five of these tracks will also be included in JONI MITCHELL ARCHIVES VOL. 2: THE REPRISE YEARS (1968-1971), which will be released on November 12 as a 5-CD set ($64.98) as well as digitally. The music will be available the same day exclusively at www.JoniMitchell.com as a 10-LP set ($249.98) on 180-gram vinyl, limited to 4,000 copies. All orders on the official Joni Mitchell store come with an exclusive 7”x7” art print featuring a never-before-seen illustration by Mitchell from the era.

The tracks on ARCHIVES VOL. 2 have been sequenced chronologically to follow Mitchell in real time through one of the most creative periods of her career. The collection uncovers several unreleased Mitchell originals, including “Jesus” recorded in 1969 at her friend Jane Lurie’s New York apartment in Chelsea, which also served as the setting for the song “Chelsea Morning.”

Other highlights include Mitchell’s performance at Le Hibou Coffee House in Ottawa on March 19, 1968 that was recorded by Jimi Hendrix and a concert at the Paris Theatre in London on October 29, 1970 that was broadcast on the BBC. The latter includes several songs destined to appear on Blue the following year: “Carey,” “River” and “My Old Man.” In addition, singer-songwriter James Taylor joined Mitchell to perform with her during the second half of the show.

Among the other treasures on ARCHIVES VOL. 2 is Mitchell’s complete Carnegie Hall debut, recorded on February 1, 1969, a few months before the release of her second album, Clouds, which would win Mitchell her first of nine Grammy Awards. In addition to its inclusion on ARCHIVES VOL. 2, the concert will also be released separately on October 29 as a 3-LP set on 180-gram vinyl for $59.98, with an exclusive 180-gram, white vinyl version, limited to 3,000 copies, available at www.JoniMitchell.com.

Like its predecessor, ARCHIVES VOL. 2 includes a booklet illustrated with many unseen photos from Mitchell’s personal collection as well as new liner notes featuring conversations about the time period between writer/filmmaker Cameron Crowe and Mitchell.

ARCHIVES VOL. 2 serves as a companion to The Reprise Albums (1968-1971) boxed set, which arrives on July 2 in 4-CD, 4-LP, and digital versions. It includes newly remastered versions of Blue (1971) and the three albums that came before it: Song To A Seagull (1968), Clouds (1969), and Ladies Of The Canyon (1970).
