GRATEFUL DEAD: READY OR NOT

New Live Collection Features Nine Unreleased Performances From The Early ‘90s,
Presenting What The Next Grateful Dead Studio Album May Have Been

Available On CD, Double-LP, And Digitally On November 22;

Unreleased Live Version Of “Lazy River Road” Available Now Digitally

LOS ANGELES – The Grateful Dead may have released the band’s final studio album – Built to Last – on Halloween 1989, but that didn’t stop them from writing new songs for the following years, adding several new tracks to their live repertoire in the early ‘90s. Sadly, the group was unable to ever complete them in a studio before the death of singer/guitarist Jerry Garcia in 1995.

The world will never know what that album would have sounded like, but we do have a tantalizing idea thanks to a new collection curated by the band’s archivist David Lemieux. READY OR NOT features nine unreleased live versions of late-period Grateful Dead songs that debuted in 1992 and 1993. The collection’s track list reflects what might have been the band’s next official studio album following Built to Last.

READY OR NOT will be released on November 22 on CD ($16.98), digital download, streaming, and as a 180-gram 2-LP set, limited to 10,000 copies ($39.98). Dead.net will offer an exclusive colored vinyl version of the 2-LP set with one red LP and one blue LP, limited to 2,000 copies. “Lazy River Road” live from Chapel Hill, North Carolina on March 25, 1993 is available now digitally.

“Ready Or Not has been a long time coming. It’s an album we've been working on for many, many years. This batch of ‘new’ Grateful Dead songs has never been compiled in one place and given its proper due as a huge part of the Dead's late-era legacy,”
says Lemieux. “Many of these songs can easily stand alongside some of the Dead's oldest, most-loved songs as bona fide classics despite their short tenure in the repertoire. We've dug deep into the archive and listened to countless live versions of these songs to find the best, most definitive live performances. When the Grateful Dead were ‘on’ in their later years, their live concerts were as good as any era in their history. The nine songs on Ready Or Not exemplify how good the Dead could be in their later years of touring.”

The collection focuses on the best unreleased live versions of these late-period gems, all mastered from the original digital soundboard tapes. Recorded live between 1992 and 1995, READY OR NOT spotlights performance by the final Grateful Dead lineup: Jerry Garcia, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, and new keyboardist Vince Welnick.

Four of the album’s nine tracks originally debuted during a two-day period in February 1993, including “Lazy River Road,” “Liberty,” and “Eternity,” a song that Weir wrote with Rob Wasserman and blues legend Willie Dixon. Another was “Days Between.” This grand and achingly nostalgic Robert Hunter and Garcia composition closes the album with a version that was recorded in December 1994 at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Hunter – who worked mainly with Garcia – began writing with Weir again during this period. Two of their collaborations are featured on READY OR NOT: “Corinna” and “Easy Answers.” The album also includes “Samba In the Rain,” a song by Welnick that features Hunter’s lyrics. The album’s two remaining songs – “Way To Go Home” and “So Many Roads” – made their live debut in February 1992, just a few months before the live versions included on READY OR NOT.

BARENAKED LADIES: ORIGINAL HITS, ORIGINAL STARS

The Multi-Platinum Band’s Hits Are Available On Vinyl For First Time!

Available Tomorrow, October 4

LOS ANGELES – Barenaked Ladies will release their first-ever vinyl hits collection tomorrow as the group celebrates more than three decades of chart success. The 12-song compilation includes the multi-platinum band’s biggest singles, as well as their theme to the television series The Big Bang Theory, which is making its vinyl debut. ORIGINAL HITS, ORIGINAL STARS will be released tomorrow, on October 4 for $19.98.

“We’ve had many hits, and I believe they are all truly great. These however...are the Greatest,” says lead singer, guitarist, and song-writer, Ed Robertson. The song selection spans Barenaked Ladies’ career and includes “If I Had $1000000” from the group’s July 1992 major-label debut, Gordon.  The album was certified gold in the U.S and diamond in their native Canada. The following year, Gordon garnered them the Juno Award for Group of the Year – the first of eight Juno Awards Barenaked Ladies have won to date. The band was also inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2018.

ORIGINAL HITS, ORIGINAL STARS features early favorites like “The Old Apartment” from 1996’s Born On A Pirate Ship and a live version of “Brian Wilson,” which appeared on the concert album Rock Spectacle (1996), the band’s first platinum-selling album in the U.S. Much of ORIGINAL HITS, ORIGINAL STARS draws on the critical and commercial success Barenaked Ladies enjoyed with Stunt (1998) and Maroon (2000). Stunt was certified 4x platinum in the U.S. and included “It’s All Been Done” and the Grammy-nominated international smash, “One Week,” which reached the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart on October 17, 1998. Maroon, another U.S. platinum-selling release, included “Falling For The First Time” and the Grammy-nominated single “Pinch Me.”  This album also features “Easy” from 2006’s Barenaked Ladies Are Me, “You Run Away” from 2010’s All in Good Time and “Odds Are” from 2013’s Grinning Streak.

The band hit the road this summer with Hootie & the Blowfish on an extensive 44-city North American tour. Billboard notes, “Barenaked Ladies may have opened the show, but its headliner status was undeniable Saturday night…the group proved to be seasoned entertainers and a dream support act.”  More fantastic quotes about the tour below:

If the show had ended after the Ladies’ hourlong set, it still would’ve been money well spent. But combining that with nearly two hours of Hootie? Even if you DID have $1,000,000, you couldn’t buy a better concert. – Cleveland.com

This was one of those two for the price of one concerts as not one, but two headliners came to town… This was one of the biggest crowds we've ever seen there. – mlive.com

You can tell how a concert is going to be at the AMP by how quickly your cell phone stops working because of tower overload. Mine was already a paperweight at 7:15 p.m., even before opening act The Barenaked Ladies took the stage. – fayettevilleflyer.com

(Barenaked Ladies) have perfected their harmonies and playing over the years, but it’s their stage presence that really lifts them above most bands. – nysmusic.com

Hootie & the Blowfish and the Barenaked Ladies dropped a tight, well-rehearsed three-plus hours of hits and under-appreciated album cuts on a sold out Bridgestone Arena.  – tasteofcountry.com

LOS ANGELES – Fleetwood Mac released five back-to-back multi-platinum albums between 1975 and 1987, an astonishing feat that drove them to become one of the best-selling bands in the world.

On November 29, these classic albums will be reissued on colored vinyl as a limited edition, individually numbered boxed set of 2,000 copies, available exclusively at the Rhino.com store for $119.98. A new incarnation of Fleetwood Mac debuted in the summer of 1975 that included Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Christine McVie, along with new members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. The group’s first album together, Fleetwood Mac (sometimes called “The White Album”), topped the Billboard album chart, spent more than a year in the Top 40 and sold more than five million copies in the U.S. thanks to songs like “Landslide,” “Say You Love Me,” and “Rhiannon.”

In 1977, the band followed up with Rumours, considered by many to be among the greatest albums of all time. It won the Grammy® for Album of the Year and has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. Its unforgettable tracks include: “Go Your Own Way,” “Gold Dust Woman” and the band’s first number one smash, “Dreams.”

The Grammy®-nominated double-album Tusk arrived in 1979. It sold more than four million copies worldwide and introduced fans to hits like “Sara,” “Think About Me,” and the title track. Three years later, in 1982, Fleetwood Mac again topped the U.S. Album Chart for five weeks with Mirage. Along with hits like “Hold Me” and “Gypsy,” Mirage also features great album tracks like “Oh Diane” and “Straight Back.”

In 1987, Tango in the Night became the second-most successful album of the band’s career, selling more than 15 million copies worldwide with the massive hits “Everywhere,” “Big Love” and “Little Lies.”
