DAVID BOWIE
ALABAMA SONG LIMITED EDITION 40th ANNIVERSARY
7-INCH PICTURE DISC

SET TO RELEASE ON FEBRUARY 14

February 14th, 2020 sees the release of the latest special limited David Bowie 7-inch picture disc, the 40th anniversary edition of “Alabama Song.”

Originally released in the U.K. on February 15, 1980, “Alabama Song” was initially written as a poem by Bertolt Brecht in 1925 and was put to music by Kurt Weill for the 1927 play Little Mahogany. David Bowie was a long-standing Brecht fan and included the song in the set-list for his 1978 Isolar II tour.

The studio version of “Alabama Song” on the A-side of this release was recorded on July 2nd 1978, the day after the final show of the European leg of the tour at Tony Visconti’s Good Earth Studios in Soho, London.

The AA-Side features two previously unreleased tracks: a rendition of Heroes track “Joe The Lion” recorded at the soundcheck of the tour’s final Earl's Court show on July 1, 1978. Though rehearsed for the Isolar II tour “Joe The Lion” would not make its live debut until the Serious Moonlight tour of 1983.

The second track on the AA-side is a live version of “Alabama Song” also recorded July 1st 1978—a different performance than the one featured on the live album Welcome To The Blackout.

Special Limited Edition White Vinyl Available Exclusively Through Rhino.com

Out January 24

ELECTRONIC by Electronic is to be reissued as a limited edition white vinyl on January 24, 2020 and will be available exclusively through Rhino.com as well as on black vinyl through all other retailers. For the first time on vinyl, both versions will come with the black cover, which was first used on the version of the CD released by Parlophone in 1994.

Electronic were the coming together of Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr in 1987. This was the year of the sudden and wholly unexpected demise of The Smiths, who imploded in July after Marr left the group. Two months later, midway through a North American tour, Bernard Sumner shocked his bandmates by announcing that he planned to take time out from New Order.

Marr and Sumner had met in 1984 when Marr added guitar to Atom Rock by Quando Quango, an electro-dance track co-produced by Sumner. Marr sums up their coming together for Electronic, "We were two musicians who wanted to get away from the suffocating politics of the band. At the same time, it was OK for duos and DJs and non-groups to make records, and that really appealed to Bernard and me.”

The project was a joyous Venn Diagram of Sumner and Marr’s influences. Although ostensibly coming from different disciplines, the experimental dance-pop of New Order and the full-bodied jangle of The Smiths, their common interests were many: dance music, a good tune and pushing musical boundaries. At the time of release (May 1991), ELECTRONIC was met with huge acclaim and stands up as one of the most important electronica albums of all time…

Q Magazine scoring is 5 out of 5 said: Its strength is in conflict ... The inexorable pounding of the beatbox versus the fragile sadness of Sumner's voice and the he/she's leaving stories; the symmetry of the synthesized or sampled sounds versus the sheer blood and bone physicality of Marr's guitar.

NME scoring it 8 out of 10 said : This is a pretty 1990s sort of a record, fresh as a daisy and wearing huge new oxblood Doc Martens.

BAD COMPANY: DESOLATION ANGELS 40th ANNIVERSARY

Remastered And Expanded Version Of The Double-Platinum Album Features Nineteen Unreleased Tracks, Including An Alternate Version Of “Feel Like Makin’ Love ” And “Can’t Get Enough”

2CD And 2LP Versions Will Be Available On January 10

LOS ANGELES – Bad Company’s incredible commercial success continued in 1979 with the British supergroup’s fifth studio album, Desolation Angels. A double-platinum hit, the album peaked at #3 on the U.S. album charts and took radio by storm with “Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy,” the best-selling single of the band’s career.

Bad Company will celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary with a newly expanded version that boasts nineteen unreleased songs taken from the album’s recording sessions. Desolation Angles was recently remastered from the original multi-track tapes for THE SWAN SONG YEARS 1974-1982, a boxed set that was released this summer. That remastered version of the album is also used in this new anniversary collection.

DESOLATION ANGELS: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION will be available on January 10 as a two-CD set ($24.99) and a double-LP set on 180-gram vinyl ($31.98). The music will also be available from digital outlets and streaming services.

In the late summer of 1978, Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke and Boz Burrell spent several weeks recording songs for Desolation Angels at Ridge Farm Studio in Surrey, England. The album – named after Jack Kerouac’s 1965 novel – was released in March 1979, and spawned two singles, “Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy” and “Gone, Gone, Gone.” The album also introduced fan favorites like “Evil Wind” and “Rhythm Machine.”

The second disc that accompanies DESOLATION ANGELS: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION presents unreleased versions of seven album tracks. Highlights include alternate takes for “Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy,” “Early In The Morning” and “She Brings Me Love.” Also, the version “Oh, Atlanta” included here is played at slower tempo and adds a Fender Rhodes keyboard into the mix.

In addition to alternate versions of album tracks, DESOLATION ANGELS: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION also features two unreleased outtakes from the sessions. The first is “Smokin’ 45.” This version is different from the one that appeared on the 1999 compilation, The ‘Original’ Bad Co. Anthology. The second outtake, “Rock Fever,” has never surfaced on any Bad Company release until now.

Tickets For The Band’s Upcoming Acoustic Tour Go On Sale December 6

LOS ANGELES – Stone Temple Pilots embark upon a new sonic adventure with PERDIDA, the band’s first-ever acoustic album. It features 10 deeply personal songs that weave introspective lyrics together with unexpected instruments to take listeners on an emotional and musical journey through letting go and starting over.

PERDIDA will be available on February 7 on CD ($16.98) and vinyl ($19.98) as well as from digital outlets ($9.99) and streaming services. The first single, “Fare Thee Well,” is available now.

Stone Temple Pilots will also launch a 15-date acoustic tour shortly before the album comes out. At each performance, the band will not only recreate the sound of PERDIDA, but also reimagine other songs from the group’s multi-platinum catalog. The tour begins February 5 in Vancouver BC and ends March 1 in Boston.  See tour dates below.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday December 6, but fans that pre-order the album beginning Monday, December 2 through Thursday, December 5 at www.stonetemplepilots.com will be able to purchase tickets and VIP packages that include Meet & Greet with the band, with a special code, prior to public on-sale.

PERDIDA, the band’s eighth studio album, features guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, drummer Eric Kretz and vocalist Jeff Gutt, who joined Stone Temple Pilots in 2017. The band produced the album and recorded the majority of it earlier this year at Kretz’s Bomb Shelter Studio.

Dean says the album’s title (Spanish for “loss”) foreshadows its somber mood. “You have to live it to write it, and this record is a reflection of where we’ve been recently.”

“Fare Thee Well” – the first single and first track on the album – establishes the wistful tone on PERDIDA right away with its acoustic guitar introduction and opening line: “Fare thee well, so long/I hate to say goodbye to you.”

Gutt says the album’s emotional honesty focused him lyrically. “I had to let myself be as vulnerable writing the lyrics as Dean and Robert were writing the music.”

Robert says PERDIDA is as much a musical journey as it is an emotional one thanks the touches of flute, alto saxophone, vintage keyboards, guitarrón and Marxophone featured throughout the album. “I’ve always loved how different instruments can accentuate a song in unexpected ways. Working with other musicians on this album was such a joy because it gave us a rare opportunity to hear our songs through someone else’s ears.”

Kretz says the band is looking forward to not only performing the new songs acoustically, but also pulling songs from previous albums into the setlist. “We’ll finally get a chance to play songs from our catalog that we’ve never played live, or in some cases, haven’t played live in more than 20 years.”

Robert says the band is looking forward to finally realizing that dream in February 2020. “We’re excited because it’s not only a chance for us to celebrate our new album in a special way, but also everything that’s brought us to this moment.”

"I’m Happy To Be An 80-Year-Old Woman"

CELEBRATING ONE OF THE TRULY GREAT MUSIC ARTISTS...
AN INCREDIBLE SINGER...UNQUESTIONABLY AN ICON...
AN INSPIRATION...UNMISTAKABLE

Images of Tina are available here.

Today (November 26) is the 80th birthday of one of the world’s most important and inspirational artists - Tina Turner.

In celebration, Tina has sent a heart-warming video message to her fans, which can be viewed at her official Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or YouTube channels.

Tina Turner is revered around the world, inspiring millions through her own personal story, her singing, her dancing and beyond. Her music legacy is a collection of some of the best-known songs of all time, just utter the phrase “You’re simply the best…” you’d be hard-pressed to find a person who doesn’t know the next line!

Turner rose to prominence in 1958, aged 19, as a duo with her then-husband Ike Turner, initially as a featured singer with Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm, recording under the name “Little Ann" on the track “Boxtop.” Her introduction to the public as Tina Turner began in 1960 as a member of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue with the hit single “A Fool In Love” in 1960. Success followed with a string of notable hits, including “It's Gonna Work Out Fine” (1961), “River Deep – Mountain High” (1966), “Proud Mary” (1971), and “Nutbush City Limits” (1973). In 1976, following a string of personal altercations, Tina left the musical duo and filed for divorce. A solo career ensued…

In 1977, she went back on stage touring rigorously, releasing a handful of albums but they didn’t match the fanfare or success of her incredible live shows. Then in November 1983, she released a cover of Al Green's “Let's Stay Together” which became a hit. In June 1984 she released the “Private Dancer” album and it’s second single “What's Love Got to Do with It” became a global smash, as did the album. From there, Tina became, and continues to be, one of the most loved artists in the world and this incredible career continues to build momentum and find new fans.

In March 2018, Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, opened at London’s Aldwych Theatre to amass of acclaim with Radio 4’s Front Row calling it “One of the most impressive musicals I’ve ever seen” and The Times saying it is a “... raw musical triumph.” After receiving four or five-star reviews across the board, the show has been extended again into 2020. The smash hit Tina – The Tina Turner Musical opened at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre earlier this month with ABC News raving, “Mind blowing and life changing. A story that needs to be shared, especially today,” and Billboard saying, “The powerhouse voice, jackhammer legs, and above all, the heart. Not to be missed.” A new block of tickets has just been released for the Broadway production through September 20, 2020.

Her memoirs, Tina Turner: My Love Story, released in October 2018, was also met with a similar adulation, "Turner comes across as courageous, optimistic, big-hearted and generous" (Sunday Times), "Astonishing, soul-baring – the must-read memoir by rock’s greatest survivor" (Daily Mail) it also made the Mail On Sunday’s Books Of The Year list for 2018.

Some Tina Turner facts…

She is one of the major influences of arguably today’s most important pop star Beyoncé, who, at the Kennedy Center Honors tribute event for Turner in 2005 said, “I will never forget the first time I saw you [Tina Turner] perform, I had never in my life seen a woman so powerful, so fearless and so fabulous” (watch her tribute here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-ioGgZhgNI).

Her 1985 performance of “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” and 2008 performance of ‘”Proud Mary” with Beyonce are often regarded as some of the most iconic Grammy moments. Watch them here and here respectively.
