GRATEFUL DEAD
WORKINGMAN’S DEAD 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION

Three-CD Deluxe Edition And Limited Edition Vinyl Picture Disc Of The
Grateful Dead’s Fourth Studio Album Will Be Available On July 10

Previously Unreleased Live Version Of “Casey Jones”
Available Today On All Digital Download And Streaming Services

LOS ANGELES – On June 14, 1970, the Grateful Dead released Workingman’s Dead, an album that was unlike anything they’d ever done, one that showed the world a new side of the Dead. It was clearly the same band as before, but now with a distinctly different sound and approach to the music, pivoting from psychedelic improvisation to folk-rock storytelling for the “everyman,” as the album’s title suggests. Workingman’s Dead will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year with two new releases.

WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION will be available on July 10 for $34.98. This three-CD set includes the original album with newly remastered sound, plus an unreleased concert recorded on February 21, 1971 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. The show was mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir’s Marin County TRI Studios and mastered by Grammy® Award-winning engineer, David Glasser. One of the highlights from the Capitol Theatre show, the previously unreleased performance of “Casey Jones,” is available today on all digital download and streaming services. Click HERE to listen now.

WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY VINYL PICTURE DISC will be available the same day for $21.98. Produced in a limited edition of 10,000 copies, it features the newly remastered version of the original album.

While the Dead’s first three studio albums appealed to many, the group didn’t yet have the mass breakthrough that would make the entire world take notice of this band of misfits from the Bay Area. Workingman’s Dead changed all that. With eight perfect songs – like “Casey Jones” and “High Time” – the album solidified the Jerry Garcia-Robert Hunter songwriting tandem as one of the best, and most important, songwriting collaborations in music history. The album reached the Top Thirty and included the single “Uncle John’s Band,” which climbed to #69 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart recorded the album in about 10 days at Pacific High Recording Studio in San Francisco with Bob Matthews and Betty Cantor – the band’s live-sound engineers – as producers. Fifty years on, every song on Workingman’s Dead sounds fresh, alive, and new.

“Since we embarked on the series of Grateful Dead 50th anniversary releases, we've had a blast re-mastering the original albums and finding previously unreleased live material from the era for each. In 2020, we're blessed to have two albums celebrating their 50th anniversaries, and we're thrilled with how Workingman's Dead has turned out,” says David Lemieux, Grateful Dead archivist and the set’s producer. “For an album as important and great as Workingman's Dead, it seemed appropriate to double the amount of bonus material. The show we've selected gives a definitive overview of what the band were up to six months after the release of the album and shows the Dead sound that would largely define the next couple of years. From Workingman's Dead through Europe '72, the Dead's sound was Americana, and the live show included here is a workingman's band playing authentically honest music.”

WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION includes the band’s previously unreleased live performance from 1971 at the Capitol Theatre. The show featured a plethora of songs from both Workingman’s Dead and the band’s follow-up album, American Beauty, which was released in November 1970. Some highlights include Weir’s moving vocal take on “Me and Bobby McGee,” Pigpen’s whiskey-seasoned growl on “Easy Wind” and a stellar run through “Uncle John’s Band” to close out the show.

In the set’s liner notes, acclaimed music journalist David Fricke tells the tale behind the album and also adds some context for the Capitol Theatre show. “The complete Port Chester evening in this 50th-anniversary edition of Workingman’s Dead…was a great night in what has long been deemed a legendary run, another turning point as the band entered a live era combining the focus of Workingman's Dead and American Beauty with the exploratory verve of Live/Dead. Many of the classic songs spread across Dead LPs in 1971 and ’72…were introduced that week at the Capitol, and many of them are in this concert, still fresh off the griddle.”

WHITESNAKE: THE ROCK ALBUM

16-Track Collection Spotlights Revisited, Remixed And Remastered Versions Of The Band’s Best Rock Songs And Will Be Released On CD And White Vinyl On June 19

Previously Unreleased Song “Always The Same” Available Today

Slide It In 35th Anniversary Remix 2-LP Vinyl Set Out Now

LOS ANGELES – Whitesnake will bring together some of their hardest-hitting songs of its multi-platinum career on The ROCK Album, a new collection that features revisited, remixed and remastered versions of the group’s best rock songs. The album is the first release in the band’s “Red, White and Blues Trilogy,” a series of fresh, new collections organized by musical themes that will include: Love Songs (red), The ROCK Album (white) and The BLUES Album (blue).

THE ROCK ALBUM will be available on June 19 on CD ($14.98), and as a double-LP set pressed on 180-gram, white vinyl ($31.98) and is available for pre-order now. The music also will be available through digital and streaming services. The collection features the debut of “Always The Same,” a previously unreleased song that was recorded during the 2019 sessions for Flesh & Blood. The band also released a new video for the song on their YouTube channel available by going here.

In the album’s liner notes, Whitesnake founder and lead singer David Coverdale writes: “All the songs have been revisited, remixed and remastered. Some have been musically embellished where my co-producer Michael McIntyre, my new mixer Christopher Collier and I felt it appropriate or necessary to bring out the best in these songs.”

THE ROCK ALBUM spans over three decades with songs originally released between 1984 and 2011 on six Whitesnake studio albums. One track – “She Give Me” – is taken from Coverdale’s 2000 solo album, Into the Light.

The group’s music from the 1980s is well represented by “Love Ain’t No Stranger” from Slide It In (1984) and “Judgement Day” from Slip of the Tongue (1989), as well as “Still Of The Night,” “Give Me All Your Love” and the #1 smash “Here I Go Again” from Whitesnake’s 1987 self-titled album, which has been certified mega-platinum.

Restless Heart (1997) gets its due on the collection with four songs, including the blistering “Can’t Stop Now.” THE ROCK ALBUM also features music from 2008’s Good to Be Bad (“Best Years” and “Can’t You Hear The Wind Blow”), in addition to the title track from 2011’s Forevermore. Other highlights from THE ROCK ALBUM include a remixed version of “All Or Nothing” that features additional guitars pulled from the original multi-track tapes, plus an alternate arrangement of “Tell Me How” from Forevermore.

Last week, Whitesnake released a 35th Anniversary Remix of Slide It In as a 2-LP set on 180-gram transparent red vinyl. Whitesnake scored its first platinum-selling album in 1984 with Slide It In, a release that has sold more than six million copies worldwide thanks to hard-rocking songs like "Love Ain't No Stranger," "Slow An' Easy" and the title track.

RELEASE COVER OF JOHN LENNON’S “ISOLATION”

DEBUT COLLABORATION FROM THE UNEXPECTED DUO AVAILABLE NOW ON ALL STREAMING AND DIGITAL DOWNLOAD SERVICES

LOS ANGELES - Legendary guitarist and two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Beck, one of the great collaborators in music history, has once-again found an unexpected co-conspirator in Johnny Depp. The musical soulmates have been working behind-the-scenes for the past few several years on new music and have released their first single as a duo today, a re-imagining of John Lennon’s classic track “Isolation,” which is available now on all streaming and digital download services from Atco/Rhino Records. Click here to listen now.

“Isolation” finds Beck in classic form on guitar with Depp on vocals, joined by long-time Beck collaborators Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Rhonda Smith on bass. The band first performed the track live at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival last September in Texas.

“Johnny and I have been working on music together for a while now and we recorded this track during our time in the studio last year. We weren’t expecting to release it so soon but given all the hard days and true ‘isolation’ that people are going through in these challenging times, we decided now might be the right time to let you all hear it,” says Beck. “You’ll be hearing more from Johnny and me in a little while but until then we hope you find some comfort and solidarity in our take on this Lennon classic.”

Johnny Depp adds, “Jeff Beck and I recorded this song Isolation last year, as our take on a beautiful John Lennon tune. Lennon’s poetry – ‘We’re afraid of everyone. Afraid of the Sun!’ – seemed to Jeff and me especially profound right now, this song about isolation, fear, and existential risks to our world. So we wanted to give it to you, and hope it helps you make sense of the moment or just helps you pass the time as we endure isolation together.”

Beck is universally acknowledged as one of the most talented and significant guitarists in the world and has played alongside some of the greatest artists of rock, blues, and jazz. Over the course of his distinguished 50+ music career, he has earned an incredible eight Grammy Awards, been ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” and been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice – once as a member of the Yardbirds and again as a solo artist. In the summer of 2016, the guitar virtuoso celebrated his five decades of music with an extraordinary concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl.

Depp has amassed quite the musical resume of his own, playing in the Hollywood Vampires supergroup with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry for the last five years. He’s also collaborated with a wide variety of musical artists over the last several decades from Oasis to Marilyn Manson to Stone Temple Pilots, just to name a few.

The Jeff Beck UK Tour: We are working with our agents and promoters to reschedule dates and will release the new tour routing as soon as we are able. All tickets will be honored for the rescheduled concert dates.

GRATEFUL DEAD ANNOUNCE “SHAKEDOWN STREAM”
WEEKLY YOUTUBE CONCERT SERIES

Debuts This Friday, April 10, On The Grateful Dead YouTube Channel With Screening Of Classic “Truckin’ Up To Buffalo” Concert From July 4, 1989

Film To Be Preceded By Live Pre-Show With
Grateful Dead Archivist David Lemieux And Historian Gary Lambert

LOS ANGELES – The Grateful Dead have announced a new streaming concert series “Shakedown Stream” that will feature a weekly live stream of one of the band’s classic live performances on the official Grateful Dead YouTube channel. The series kicks off this Friday, April 10, at 8PM EST with a screening of Truckin’ Up To Buffalo, their classic July 4, 1989 concert from Rich Stadium in upstate New York. The screening will be preceded by a live, on-camera pre-show with Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux and historian Gary Lambert. The “Shakedown Stream” live broadcast will also feature a “Donate Now” button for viewers to directly support the MusiCares® COVID-19 Relief Fund to help support the music community during these challenging times.

“Shakedown Stream” was conceived as a platform for Dead Heads of all ages to virtually congregate during the challenging days the world currently faces and connect in a familiar way, via a Grateful Dead show. Fans are encouraged to submit questions for Lemieux and Lambert in advance at the “Shakedown Stream” submission page with a limited number being answered during the live pre-show.

“We've decided to start the streaming video series with the Buffalo '89 show for a couple of primary reasons: it's excellence is indisputable and is something that we think pretty much everyone will enjoy in the absence of actually being able to see live concerts; and, as a tribute to the many rabid, loyal Dead Heads from the hard-hit tri-state area, which has been affected more than anywhere else in the country,” says Lemieux. “To all of the Dead Heads in New York State and beyond, this one's for you.”

The “Shakedown Stream” series will continue next Friday, April 17, with The Grateful Dead Movie, and subsequent weeks will feature not only previously released concerts but also never-before-seen shows from the Dead's video archive. Each “Shakedown Stream” will also kick off with a live, on-camera pre-show with members of the Dead community. Additional shows will be announced soon.

Truckin’ Up To Buffalo features the band’s 21-song concert from July 4, 1989 and captures the Dead in peak form throughout the show. The passionate and energetic performance features Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann on drums, Phil Lesh on bass and vocals, Bob Weir on guitar and vocals and Brent Mydland on keyboards and vocals. The two sets include some of the band’s best-loved songs including “Bertha,” “Deal,” “Terrapin Station,” and “Touch Of Grey,” along with covers of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and “All Along The Watchtower.” The concert spans the band’s legendary career with performances of “Cold Rain And Snow” and “Morning Dew”—from the band’s self-titled 1967 debut—to “I Will Take You Home,” which was released a few months after the show on Built To Last, the band’s last studio album.
