Iconic Movie Soundtrack Celebrates 20th Anniversary On Yellow & Pink Splatter Vinyl for the First Time  Exclusively For RSD Black Friday, November 29

Loaded With Fan Favorites “The Best Day Ever” and “Goofy Goober Rock”

Featuring Music From Avril Lavigne, The Flaming Lips, Motörhead & Ween

LOS ANGELES—This RSD Black Friday, celebrate the 20th anniversary of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie with this iconic movie soundtrack, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie - Music From the Movie and More…The 1LP pressed-on clear vinyl with yellow and pink splatter will be available exclusively at participating indie record stores.

For a list of participating stores, visit recordstoryday.com.

Making its vinyl debut, the soundtrack transports listeners straight to Bikini Bottom, featuring the voice actors Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star) hits “The Best Day Ever” and “Goofy Goober Rock” and tracks by critically acclaimed artists.

Eight-time GRAMMY® award-winning artist Avril Lavigne performs the “SpongeBob SquarePants Theme” for the movie, adding a rock and roll twist to the sing-along theme song. Directly following her, The Flaming Lips contributed, “SpongeBob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy.” The Flaming Lips saw a mainstream breakthrough prior to this release and, shortly after, saw the gold certification of their second record, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. British heavy metal legends Motörhead contributed “You Better Swim,” a rewrite of “You Better Run” off their 1992 album March ör Die.

“BEST DAY EVER! I just did the math, and Rhino is right; it really HAS been 20 years(!) since the first SpongeBob movie splashed down! It thrills me that the film— and the songs therein —still resonate with Goofy Goobers of all ages. Vibrant, unpredictable, and unapologetically oddball, the lineup of artists on the soundtrack is like a guided audio tour of Stephen Hillenburg’s eclectic musical tastes. Remember: ‘You don’t need a license to drive a sandwich!’” - Tom Kenny

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, released in 2004, saw commercial success at the box office, with the soundtrack peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard U.S Top Soundtracks. Creator of the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon, Stephen Hillenburg, often garnered inspiration from music, and Ween’s “Ocean Man,” track nine on the soundtrack, is said to have sparked the Spongebob franchise.

Rhino and Warner Chappell Music Celebrate 50th Anniversary of “Cat’s in the Cradle,” Harry Chapin’s Chart-Topping Hit That Launched an Ongoing Campaign to End Hunger
“Cat’s in the Cradle” Officially Certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA
Chapin Family Anniversary Plans Include Documentary Detailing Song’s Impact, Live Tribute Shows & More

Fifty years ago, on Tuesday, October 1st, 1974, Grammy-nominated folk singer Harry Chapin released the multi-generational hit “Cat’s In The Cradle.” By December of that same year, the song had skyrocketed to #1, and made Chapin a household name. Originally inspired by a poem written by his wife Sandy, “Cat’s In the Cradle” afforded Chapin newfound stardom that allowed him to launch WhyHunger, Center for Food Action and Long Island Cares, or The Harry Chapin Food Bank. Together, the charities help almost 2 million adults and children facing food insecurity each year in the U.S. and around the world.

Today the song has also been certified 2x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Each year, WhyHunger honors individuals for their commitment to helping to end hunger, presenting the ASCAP Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award and running an annual Hungerthon campaign that educates the public and raises critical funds to end hunger in America. What originally began as a radio-driven Thanksgiving tradition in 1975, and hit airwaves across the nation each fall through partnerships with SiriusXM, Audacy NY, and iHeartMedia NY has since raised millions for the cause.

This year, in addition to the annual Hungerthon and in celebration of the song’s 50th anniversary, Chapin’s family has announced the release of a documentary about the making of “Cat’s In The Cradle,” as well as live tour dates for the Harry Chapin Band this fall. Stops include Tarrytown, NY, multiple shows in New Jersey, and more cities along the East Coast with a lineup including his brothers Tom and Steve Chapin, daughter Jen Chapin nieces Abigail and Lily Chapin, Big John Wallace, Howard Fields, Clark Wallace, Stephan Crump, Jamie Fox, and the newly added Arlen Hlusko on cello.

Artist and actor interviews in the documentary will come from Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Judy Collins, Robert Lamm, Darryl McDaniels, Whit Crane from Ugly Kid Joe and more, plus clips of Johnny Cash and others performing the song. Stay tuned for more release plans and its official release.

Harry Chapin sold over 16 million records, had 14 hit singles, and garnered two GRAMMY nominations. In 1977 he was a key participant in the creation of the Presidential Commission on World Hunger. He was posthumously awarded the GRAMMY President’s Merit Award in 1986 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 1987. He was inducted into the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2006 and GRAMMY Hall of Fame in 2011.

DAVID BOWIE

CELEBRATING THE 25 ANNIVERSARY OF ‘hours…’

THE FIRST-EVER DIGITALLY RELEASED ALBUM BY

A MAJOR ARTIST

PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED LIVE TRACKS, REMIXES & RARELY SEEN CLASSIC TV PERFORMANCES

September 20, 2024Parlophone Records is proud to announce a series of digital and video releases to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the David Bowie gold-certified album 'hours…'.

Initially released on September 21, 1999, 'hours…' was Bowie's 22nd studio album. He once more proved himself to be a trailblazer as it was the first by a major artist to be made available as a download.

The decision was incredibly controversial at the time, with some established retailers calling for a boycott and a withdrawal of all his albums from their shelves, which, of course, never happened.  Speaking at the time, Bowie said, "I am hopeful that this small step will lead to greater steps by myself and others, ultimately giving consumers greater choices and easier access to the music they enjoy." As with so much of his work and expression, this quote envisioned the future with uncanny accuracy.

The album itself saw Bowie harken back to his early career with the 12-string acoustic guitar being at the forefront of key songs on the album, including “Survive” and “Seven,” two of three singles released in the U.K. While Bowie didn't undertake a tour for the album, he played a handful of intimate shows and several live TV performances.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of 'hours…', Parlophone will release two digital EPs featuring four previously unreleased tracks

LIVE FROM MANHATTAN CENTER ‘99 is out today, September 20, one day before the 25th anniversary, and features three previously unreleased live tracks recorded for the U.K. TV show Top Of The Pops but not broadcast at the time. The recording was made on the same day and at the same venue as Bowie’s VH1 Storytellers performance.

The six-track 'hours…' REMIX EP follows on October 11 and features two Beck remixes and an unheard 'hip hop' mix of the album's lead single “Thursday's Child.”

On September 23 and 30, four tracks from the December 4, 1999 performance on the BBC's “Later…With Jools Holland,” including the classics “Ashes To Ashes” and “Cracked Actor,” will be released on the David Bowie YouTube account along with the footage of the three tracks from the LIVE FROM MANHATTAN CENTER ‘99 EP.
