Making its vinyl debut, the soundtrack transports listeners straight to Bikini Bottom, featuring the voice actors Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star) hits “The Best Day Ever” and “Goofy Goober Rock” and tracks by critically acclaimed artists.
Eight-time GRAMMY® award-winning artist Avril Lavigne performs the “SpongeBob SquarePants Theme” for the movie, adding a rock and roll twist to the sing-along theme song. Directly following her, The Flaming Lips contributed, “SpongeBob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy.” The Flaming Lips saw a mainstream breakthrough prior to this release and, shortly after, saw the gold certification of their second record, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. British heavy metal legends Motörhead contributed “You Better Swim,” a rewrite of “You Better Run” off their 1992 album March ör Die.
“BEST DAY EVER! I just did the math, and Rhino is right; it really HAS been 20 years(!) since the first SpongeBob movie splashed down! It thrills me that the film— and the songs therein —still resonate with Goofy Goobers of all ages. Vibrant, unpredictable, and unapologetically oddball, the lineup of artists on the soundtrack is like a guided audio tour of Stephen Hillenburg’s eclectic musical tastes. Remember: ‘You don’t need a license to drive a sandwich!’” - Tom Kenny
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, released in 2004, saw commercial success at the box office, with the soundtrack peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard U.S Top Soundtracks. Creator of the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon, Stephen Hillenburg, often garnered inspiration from music, and Ween’s “Ocean Man,” track nine on the soundtrack, is said to have sparked the Spongebob franchise.
