THE CHÂTEAU D’HEROUVILLE SESSIONS

REMIXED BY STEVEN WILSON ON VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME

AVAILABLE ON 2LP MARCH 15

LOS ANGELES - Prior to the release of their A Passion Play album in 1973, Jethro Tull recorded three sides of a double album at the Château d’Hérouville studio near Paris, France. Things did not go well, and the project was aborted.

In the summer of 1972, the band was riding high on the crest of a popularity wave, as they sold out huge arenas on the back of their critically acclaimed, chart-topping fifth album, Thick As A Brick. They went into the renowned studio, where the likes of David Bowie, Elton John, Pink Floyd and Cat Stevens had previously recorded. The band quickly nicknamed it ‘Chateau D’isaster’ after a series of equipment failures, bed bugs and food poisoning.

After a band meeting where the decision was made to return to the UK, they part-recorded a treasure trove of quirky material on master tapes, which were ferried back to continue to work on in London - only to decide to start over with a whole new album project, which was to become A Passion Play, released in 1973.

And so the Château tapes became the great lost album of Tull mythology until 20 years later when Ian Anderson reworked and completed most of the original material to release on the Nightcap album as the Chateau d’Isaster Tapes. Then, in 2013, they received a make-over by Steven Wilson, for inclusion on the A Passion Play: An Extended Performance book-set. Now, for the first time, these recordings will be available on vinyl. The Château D'Hérouville Sessions will be released as a 2LP set on March 15.

About the album, Ian Anderson says, “There are some good things going on there, and I really quite like the songs which had lyrics, lots of theatrical references such as the bomb in the dressing room. I was trying to create this idea of the world of theatre somehow mirroring the real life outside on the streets and in society.”

Grammy-Winning Singer’s 1978 Solo Debut With Newly Remastered Sound

Available March 22 On CD And Vinyl

LOS ANGELES – Chaka Khan earned her spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, capping a remarkable five-decade career highlighted by her 10 Grammy® Awards.

In celebration, Rhino is reissuing her solo albums with newly remastered sound by Bernie Grundman. The series begins with the record that started it all. CHAKA will arrive March 22 on 1CD and 1LP, with a special red-vinyl version available exclusively at Barnes & Noble.

The newly remastered Chaka is now available for pre-order.

After recording a string of platinum albums as the lead singer of the influential funk band Rufus (“Tell Me Something Good” and “Sweet Thing”), Khan embarked on her solo journey in 1978 with CHAKA. The album continued the singer’s hot streak, achieving platinum status and establishing Khan as a hitmaker in her own right with the anthemic first single, “I’m Every Woman.”

The song topped the R&B chart and crossed over to the pop chart, reaching #21 on the Hot 100 and Top 20 in the UK, Ireland, Belgium, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. It became one of her signature songs, earning Khan a Grammy® nomination for Best R&B Vocal Performance.

The reissue of CHAKA includes a heartfelt note from Khan, expressing her gratitude for the people who helped her make the album, such as Ashford & Simpson, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, and Arif Mardin. “Together, we created career-defining moments with hits like ‘I’m Every Woman,’ as well as special songs like ‘Roll Me Through the Rushes’ and ‘Some Love.’ Now that the music has been beautifully remastered, I’m thrilled to share it with new generations. Each note carries a piece of my heart, and I hope it finds a special place in yours.”

Stay tuned for more Chaka Khan reissues coming later this year, including Naughty and What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me.

RHINO HIGH FIDELITY

Premium Vinyl Series Reveals Upcoming Releases

Ornette Coleman’s Change Of The Century, Television’s Marquee Moon, The Cars’ Candy-O, Grateful Dead’s American Beauty, John Coltrane’s Olé Coltrane, and Miles Davis’ Tutu Will Join The Limited Edition Reissue Series In The Coming Months

Available Exclusively At Rhino.com

LOS ANGELES – Rhino High Fidelity (Rhino Hi-Fi) ushers in the new year by introducing the latest additions to the acclaimed series of limited-edition, high-end vinyl reissues.

Rhino Hi-Fi will release six albums in the coming months, starting on January 12 with Ornette Coleman’s Change of the Century and Television’s Marquee Moon. They’ll be followed by The Cars’ Candy-O and the Grateful Dead’s American Beauty on March 8 and John Coltrane’s Olé Coltrane and Miles Davis’ Tutu on April 5.

The albums will be available exclusively at Rhino.com and internationally at select WMG stores. Each release is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies and priced at $39.98. Ornette Coleman and Television will be available to order on January 12.

Rhino High Fidelity continues to set the industry standard for sound quality and packaging, a testament to Rhino’s more than 45-year legacy of award-winning audio releases. To ensure an unrivaled listening experience, all album lacquers are AAA cut directly from the original stereo master tapes by Kevin Gray, while Optimal handles the 180-gram vinyl pressing. The meticulous attention to detail extends to the aesthetic experience, with glossy covers and “tip-on” jackets reminiscent of vinyl’s golden age. Each Rhino High Fidelity release also comes with exclusive content about the album, such as photos and behind-the-scenes stories.

Released in 1960, saxophonist Ornette Coleman’s Change of the Century is an avant-garde masterpiece, showcasing his innovative “free jazz” approach. The unconventional improvisations, lack of a traditional chordal structure, and the interplay among the musicians mark a pivotal moment in the evolution of jazz. The Rhino High Fidelity release features an exclusive insert with notes by journalist Dan Daley.

Television’s Marquee Moon became a landmark in the punk and post-punk genres following its arrival in 1977. Teeming with intricate guitar work, poetic lyrics, and extended instrumental passages, the album not only influenced punk but also shaped the alternative and indie rock landscapes. The Rhino High Fidelity release features an exclusive insert with notes by David Fricke, featuring commentary from band members Richard Lloyd, Fred Smith, and Billy Fica.

The Cars’ second album, Candy-O, helped create the new wave sound in 1979 with its polished pop hooks, catchy melodies, and the sleek production of Roy Thomas Baker. Instantly recognizable by its iconic Alberto Vargas cover, the album introduced smash hits like “Let’s Go” and “It’s All I Can Do,” propelling the album to #3 on the Billboard 200.

A highwater mark in the Grateful Dead’s studio album catalog, 1970’s American Beauty offers a blend of folk, country, and rock influenced by the Bakersfield Sound that emerged in California during the 1950s. The album features some of the band’s best-loved songs, including “Ripple,” “Sugar Magnolia,” and “Box Of Rain.”

Saxophonist John Coltrane explored modal jazz and world music influences on his 1961 album, Olé Coltrane. The title track, in particular, draws inspiration from Spanish and North African musical traditions while underscoring Coltrane’s continued artistic evolution and boundary-pushing creativity.

Decades into his brilliant career, Miles Davis added a significant chapter to his already extensive discography in 1986 with Tutu. The album was produced by Marcus Miller and embraced contemporary electronic and fusion sounds, earning Davis the Grammy® Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Soloist).

Rhino High Fidelity continues to tap into Warner Music’s extensive music catalog, bringing music enthusiasts and audiophiles superlative versions of landmark albums from diverse genres, including jazz, blues, rock, pop, and beyond. The series will release two classic albums quarterly, maintaining the same exceptional audio and packaging quality that has quickly defined Rhino High Fidelity.

LIMITED 11-TRACK VINYL ALBUM RELEASED EXCLUSIVELY FOR RECORD STORE DAY ON APRIL 20

Waiting In The Sky (Before The Starman Came To Earth)

Artist Name
David Bowie
Release Date

LOS ANGELES - Parlophone Records are proud to announce the release of a very special David Bowie limited vinyl LP, WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH), which will be released on April 20 for Record Store Day.

The album is taken from the Trident Studios 1/4” stereo tapes dated December 15, 1971, created for the provisional tracklisting for what would become The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars album.

The tracklisting for WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) runs differently from the Ziggy Stardust album and features four songs that didn’t make the final album.

On Side one, in the place of "Starman,” one of the last three tracks recorded for the album in February 1972, is "Round And Round,” a Chuck Berry cover. The track was finally released on a single as the B-side to "Drive-In Sunday” on April 6, 1973. Initially, the closing of Side-one of the album was Bowie’s version of Jacques Brel’s "Amsterdam,” which would later appear as the B-side of "Sorrow” on October 12, 1973.

Side two of the December 15, 1971 tracklisting features two long-time non-LP fan favorites, "Holy Holy” and "Velvet Goldmine.” The former is a re-recording with The Spiders off of Bowie’s 1971 single. Again, this version of the track had to wait several years before surfacing as the B-side of “Diamond Dogs” on June 14, 1974.

“Velvet Goldmine” is considered by many to be a lost Ziggy era classic, one Bowie often referred to as ‘He’s A Goldmine’ or ‘She’s A Goldmine’ in his notebooks and interviews. The track was recorded during the Ziggy sessions but wasn’t released until September 26, 1975, alongside "Changes” backing the re-released album version of "Space Oddity,” which peaked at No.1 on the U.K. singles chart in November 1975.

The cover of WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) features a photo of Bowie taken at an early Ziggy Stardust period session by Brian Ward, and the two sides of the inner bags are the fronts of the two Trident Studios tape boxes. The album’s title comes from the lyrics of “Starman,” which, along with "Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide” and "Suffragette City,” had not yet been recorded when this variation of the album was compiled.

WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) was cut on a customized late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics from 192kHz restored masters of the original Trident Studios master tapes, with no additional processing on transfer. The half-speed vinyl cut was by engineer John Webber at AIR Studios, London.
