Faces At The BBC — Complete BBC Concert & Session Recordings 1970-1973

8CD/Blu-Ray Boxed Set Featuring All Of The Band’s Surviving BBC Recordings Will Be Available On September 6

Remastered With Participation Of Band Members Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, And Kenney Jones

Newly Restored Footage From April 1972 Appearance Debuts On Blu-ray

LOS ANGELES – After teasing their legendary BBC recordings on two Record Store Day releases, the Faces are set to make fans “Shake, Shudder, Shiver” with a comprehensive boxed set compiling all of the group’s BBC concerts and surviving studio sessions. This new collection – much of it previously unreleased – has been remastered with the full participation of band members Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, and Kenney Jones.

On September 6, Faces At The BBC — Complete BBC Concert & Session Recordings 1970-1973 will be available as an 8CD/Blu-ray set at rhino.com and select retailers. The Blu-ray includes newly restored footage of the Faces’ April 1972 appearance on Sounds for Saturday. The concert finds the “Borstal Boys” in peak form, radiating their swaggering, joyous spirit of rock ’n’ roll that continues to inspire generations.

The hardback set includes a 48-page booklet with new commentary from surviving band members and archival quotes from Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan, and legendary BBC broadcaster John Peel. Lavishly illustrated with many previously unseen photos, the booklet details every Faces BBC session, concert, and broadcast. BBC broadcaster Gary Crowley wrote the detailed liner notes, which include a new interview with Jeff Griffin, who produced all of the Faces’ BBC concert appearances.

Once thought lost, many of the band’s BBC recordings were recovered from the Faces’ own archives and private collections. (Notably, only one BBC session of three songs remains missing.) Rarities include a stereo mix of the May 13, 1971, Paris Cinema concert, which was only broadcast in mono, and a February 1973 show that was never aired due to the BBC’s concerns over the band’s on-stage banter with the rowdy audience.

The Faces’ BBC appearances are cherished by fans today. It’s shocking to think they almost didn’t happen. The BBC initially dismissed the band as not “serious” enough for airplay. Enter John Peel, who championed the band and was instrumental in securing the group’s first BBC session on March 9, 1970.

In the liner note, the band gratefully acknowledges Peel’s role. Stewart says, “If it wasn’t for John Peel, the Faces would never have broken through.” Wood adds, “He gave the Faces our first break.” Jones says, “John Peel helped the Faces so much in England, in the press and on his show.”

Faces At The BBC — Complete BBC Concert & Session Recordings 1970-1973 spans the band’s formation and meteoric rise. Exploring a period of intense creativity, which included four Faces studio albums (First Step, Long Player, A Nod Is As Good As A Wink…To A Blind Horse…, and Ooh La La) and several solo albums that Stewart recorded with most of the band (Gasoline Alley, Every Picture Tells A Story, Never A Dull Moment, and Smiler).

Faces At The BBC — Complete BBC Concert & Session Recordings 1970-1973 includes live versions of fan favorites like “Bad ’n’ Ruin,” “Had Me A Real Good Time,” “Miss Judy’s Farm,” “Too Bad,” and “Stay With Me,” a gold-certified single in the U.S. and a Top 10 smash in the U.K. Several of Stewart’s solo songs were performed as well, including, “(I Know) I’m Losing You” and the U.S. and U.K. No. 1 hit, “Maggie May.”

John Peel’s Christmas Carol Concert rounds out the collection. Originally broadcast on Boxing Day 1970, this unique holiday performance features Stewart singing “Away In A Manger” and a Christmas carol medley sung by a choir that includes the Faces, their roadies, John Peel, Marc Bolan of T-Rex, and others.

RHINO HIGH FIDELITY

Premium Vinyl Series

Limited Edition Reissues Of Bad Company Self-Titled and Yes Relayer (50th Anniversary)

Two Classic 70s Rock Albums Reissued As High-End Limited Editions Produced With Spectacular Sound

Available Exclusively At Rhino.com

LOS ANGELES—Rhino High Fidelity (Rhino Hi-Fi) returns with the latest additions to its acclaimed limited-edition, high-end vinyl reissues. Bad Company’s Self-Titled (1974) debut and Yes’s Relayer (1974) are available today exclusively at Rhino.com and internationally at select WMG stores. Each release is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies priced at $39.98

Rhino High Fidelity has set the industry standard for sound quality and packaging, demonstrating Rhino's 45-year legacy of award-winning audio releases. To ensure an unmatched listening experience, Kevin Gray expertly cuts lacquers and Optimal handles the 180-gram vinyl pressing. The attention to detail extends to the aesthetic experience, with glossy covers and "tip-on" jackets reminiscent of vinyl’s golden age.

Recorded at Headley Grange in Hampshire, Bad Company’s debut album, Bad Company, captures the rich spatial sound that brought a raw approach to rock ‘n’ roll and struck a mainstream chord. The debut record dominated the charts, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in the US and No. 3 on the UK Album Chart, eventually being certified 5x platinum by the RIAA. The album includes fan-favorites “Can’t Get Enough” and the title track, both platinum-certified best-sellers.

Bad Company includes an insightful conversation with producer Ron Nevision and Hugh Gilmour detailing the recording sessions and reflecting on the success of the record. Nevision experimented with different recording techniques throughout the studio to achieve the final sound: “Everybody agrees that everything sounds good and bright and close, and that is a special sound, that Bad Co album. Simple. To the point. In your face.” A brief recollection of the band’s name, recounted by Paul Rodgers, is also shared in the liner notes.

Yes’ seventh studio album, Relayer, is filled with grandiose instrumentation and narrative lyricism, furthering the complex worldbuilding brought on by previous albums. Recorded after Rick Wakeman’s departure, the impact of new keyboardist Patrick Moraz is felt throughout with added jazz-funk fusion elements. The gold-certified album peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 with just three long-form pieces, including the ambitious 22-minute opening track “The Gates of Delirium.”

This set includes a detailed interview with Patrick Moraz by jazz enthusiast Syd Schwartz, chronicling the recording and production of Relayer. Moraz recommends listening to Relayer “in the very best possible way, you know, either with the highest quality headphones or with a good stereo system and as LOUD as you can absorb.”

Rhino High Fidelity will continue to tap into Warner Music’s extensive music catalog, bringing music enthusiasts and audiophiles superlative versions of landmark albums from diverse genres, including jazz, blues, rock, pop, and beyond. The series will introduce two classic albums quarterly, maintaining the same exceptional audio and packaging quality that has quickly defined Rhino High Fidelity.

Live From the Board: Official Bootleg

A Limited Edition Four-Track EP For RSD Black Friday

LOS ANGELES—In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Phil Collins’ fifth solo studio album, Both Sides, it is to be reissued as a special edition 5-LP box set, releasing on September 20.

This deluxe edition contains the remastered full original album, cut at half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, and is a compendium of early demo tracks from the recording of the album as well as rarities from the singles originally released on the album - “Both Sides of the Story,” “Everyday” and “We Wait and We Wonder.” Both Sides (All The Sides) brings this full collection together with live tracks from the era, such as “Can’t Turn Back the Years,” “Both Sides of the Story” taken from Collins’ MTV Unplugged performance, “Doesn't Anybody Stay Together Anymore” and more, as one release for the first time on vinyl. The set is housed in a slipcase with picture sleeves and a 16-page booklet containing newly written and extensive liner notes by esteemed journalist Michael Hann.

Proclaimed by Collins as his most personal album to that point in his career, Both Sides, originally released in 1993, is Phil Collins’ fifth album and was written, performed and produced all by Collins himself at his home studio in just six weeks. In a 2016 interview with The Guardian newspaper, Collins named it as his "favorite album from a songwriting and creative perspective," going on to reveal how “… the songs just streamed out of me, and as a writer, that's the kind of thing that you dream of.”

Upon its original release, the album reached No. 1 in the UK and throughout Europe and No. 13 in the US and has gone on to be a global multi-platinum seller.

As written by Michael Hann in his notes, “Time has magnified its virtues, and perspective has amplified its truths. Both Sides may not have been the monster hit its predecessors were, but it might be the most important record in the Phil Collins discography.”

Also announced today is Live From the Board: Official Bootleg, a limited-edition 10-inch vinyl for RSD Black Friday (November 29). This four-track EP was originally released in 1995 and features songs recorded on the Both Sides tour in 1994 under the artist name Phil Collins & The Indescribable Din. It features the tracks “Sussudio,” “Easy Lover,” “Separate Lives,” and “My Girl.”

Ready To Die (30th Anniversary)

2-LP Reissue Of Iconic Rapper’s Multi-Platinum Debut Featuring Limited Edition Collectible Cover Art Arrives On September 13

LOS ANGELES – The Notorious B.I.G.’s multi-platinum debut, Ready to Die, celebrates its 30th anniversary with a special 2-LP reissue featuring newly reimagined limited edition cover art.

On September 13—the album’s original release date—Ready To Die (30th Anniversary) will be available as a double album on black vinyl from Rhino.com and biggiemerch.com. On the same day, a color vinyl edition will be available exclusively at select retailers.

Earlier this year, the Library of Congress inducted Ready To Die into the National Recording Registry. In the essay accompanying the induction, author and journalist Justin Tinsley writes, “In its true essence, the album is a response to American capitalism and just how deadly the pursuit of money could be and was for so many--in particular, young Black folks in America. ‘Ready To Die’ is a response to so many moments in American history before it: the economic crisis that nearly crippled New York in the 1970s, the crack explosion of the '80s (and the unfathomable violence and destruction it brought) and Reagonomics, ‘Stop-And-Frisk’-era policies that crippled Black communities… ‘Rolling Stone’ dubbed the album ‘the precise moment when hip-hop's golden age transitioned into its modern age, the height of New York hip-hop and the sound of the greatest rapper of all time at the absolute top of his power.’”

The album’s lead single, “Juicy,” achieved gold certification upon release and peaked at No. 3 on the Hot Rap Singles chart, crossing over to reach No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since its release, the platinum-certified track has garnered over 1 billion streams and was named the best hip-hop song of all time by the BBC. The second single, “Big Poppa,” was an even bigger success; with over 1 billion streams to date, it topped the Rap and R&B charts and reached No. 6 on the Hot 100. It was certified platinum at the time and nominated for the GRAMMY® Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. In addition, a remix of “One More Chance” topped the Rap and R&B charts and peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100.

The iconic record has been certified 6x platinum and is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever, making the Apple Music 100 Best Albums of All Time and No. 1 on Rolling Stone’s The 200 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums of All Time.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WARNER RECORDS,

CELEBRATE THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF

PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION’S LANDMARK ALBUM, PURPLE RAIN, WITH NEW IMMERSIVE AUDIO MIX

“I think Purple Rain is the most avant-garde purple thing I’ve ever done. Just look at [the singles] ‘When Doves Cry’ and ‘Let’s Go Crazy’. Most Black artists won’t try a groove like that. If more would, we’d have more colorful radio stations.”

- Prince

(Minneapolis, MN – June 21, 2024) NPG Records and Paisley Park Enterprises, in partnership with Warner Records, are pleased to announce the release of a brand new Dolby ATMOS Mix of Prince and the Revolution's iconic 1984 album, Purple Rain, which is available to stream now via participating digital partners.

40 years ago this month, Prince shattered all expectations and made music history when he released the album Purple Rain, followed by the hit movie of the same name weeks later. The 9-track LP went on to win two Grammy awards ("Best Rock Performance by a Group" & "Best Album of Original Score Written For A Motion Picture"), two American Music Awards, a Brit Award, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. In 2012 the Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry, which only accepts sound recordings that “are culturally, historically, or aesthetically important, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States.” Purple Rain spent 24 weeks at #1 on the Billboard album charts, sold over 25 million copies worldwide, and appears on countless ‘Best Of’ polls, most recently achieving the #4 spot on Apple Music's Top 100 Albums Of All Time.

The new ATMOS presentation of Purple Rain has been meticulously mixed from the original multi-track master tapes by former Prince engineer and award-winning ATMOS engineer Chris James. It is available now via all participating Digital Service Providers on June 21, with an audiophile Blu-ray to be released later in 2024.

“As we begin what will be a year-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain, we are thrilled to present Prince’s masterpiece in ATMOS, providing an immersive, surround auditory experience of Prince’s legendary album. This highly crafted release will present Prince’s iconic work with a greater sense of space and depth while preserving the beautiful songs that have shaped pop culture and touched the lives of countless fans around the world..”

- Paisley Park Enterprises

As part of the festivities honoring Purple Rain's 40th anniversary, Paisley Park Enterprises will also welcome Prince fans to Celebration 2024, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, MN, from Thursday June 20 - Monday June 24. The annual event will feature live concert performances by The Revolution, Morris Day, the New Power Generation, and other special guests. The event will also provide the first sneak-peek preview of the Purple Rain musical in currently in development and production.

Warner Bros. Discovery will reissue a newly restored 4K version of the Purple Rain motion picture on June 25, with a limited theatrical run scheduled to start on July 3.

In addition to these Purple Rain reissues, Prince’s catalog is also now available in full on Snapchat and other social media for the next generation of Prince fans to engage, discover and enjoy.
