CURTIS MAYFIELD

Keep On Keeping On Features Newly Remastered Versions Of The First
Four Studio Albums The Legendary Artist Recorded Between 1970 And 1974

2019 Marks The 50th Anniversary Of Mayfield's Prolific Solo Career Start

Available From Rhino On February 22

LOS ANGELES - Curtis Mayfield recorded a string of hits with The Impressions before leaving the influential soul-gospel group to embark upon a solo career that began 50 years ago and produced some of his greatest work. Known as the "Gentle Genius," Mayfield has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice - first as a member of The Impressions and later as a solo artist.

Rhino will spotlight Mayfield's early solo career in a collection that includes newly remastered versions of his first four studio albums: Curtis (1970), Roots (1971), Back to the World (1973) and Sweet Exorcist (1974). KEEP ON KEEPING ON: CURTIS MAYFIELD STUDIO ALBUMS 1970-1974 will be available on February 22 on four CDs ($34.98), four LPs ($69.98), digitally ($29.99) and via streaming services. Starting today, the set is available for pre-order by going here, and while supplies last, all orders placed via Rhino.com will include a 12x12 print as an exclusive gift with purchase.

"Curtis Mayfield was my husband and we were a team, so it's an especially happy occasion to see these songs featured in a new boxed set on what would be Curtis' 50th anniversary as a solo artist," says Altheida (Mrs. Curtis) Mayfield. "He passed 20 years ago this year and the family has and continues to lovingly support and share his musical legacy with the world."

Mayfield was only 14 years old when he joined The Impressions in 1956. He spent the next 14 years with the group, writing many of their hits: "Gypsy Woman," "It's All Right" and "People Get Ready," a classic that's earned a number of prestigious accolades, including induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.

Mayfield left the group in 1970 and launched his solo career with his debut album, Curtis. The album reached the Billboard Pop Albums Chart Top 20 and was certified gold. It features "(Don't Worry) If There's A Hell Below, We're All Going To Go," a hit in the U.S., and "Move On Up," which charted in the U.K. In terms of cultural significance, the album's potent combination of socially conscious lyrics and soul/funk music helped blaze a trail for later albums like Marvin Gaye's What's Going On and Stevie Wonder's Innervisions.

Mayfield returned in 1971 with Roots. His second solo album peaked at #6 on the R&B Albums chart thanks to memorable tracks like "Get Down," "Beautiful Brother Of Mine" and "We Got To Have Peace." This new collection, KEEP ON KEEPING ON, is named for a song on that album.

Following the enormous success of his Super Fly soundtrack in 1972, Mayfield released his third solo record, Back to the World in 1973. It topped the R&B Albums chart and introduced fans to great tracks like "Future Shock," "Can't Say Nothin'" and "If I Were Only A Child Again." The final album in this new set is Sweet Exorcist (1974), which reached #2 on the Top R&B Albums chart. It produced two singles, the title track and "Kung Fu."

Last year, in his honor, The Curtis Mayfield Foundation launched a series of music education scholarship programs including a collaboration with the Songwriters Hall of Fame and performing arts high schools in Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles. The Foundation is a nonprofit entity founded by the Curtis Mayfield family to promote the Grammy® Award winning songwriter-singer's 60-year legacy in the civil rights movement and music, as both a lead singer and solo artist, and to support music education in high schools across the country through scholarship programs, publications, music study guides, and recordings.

LOS ANGELES - Dead & Company has launched a digital concert series that will feature all 19 complete shows from the group's fall/winter 2017-18 tour. The series begins today (January 10) with the digital release of all three of the original February 2018 "Playing In The Sand" shows, and in advance of the second annual "Playing In The Sand" all-inclusive concert vacation in Riviera Maya, Mexico next weekend, January 17-20, 2019.

Over the next two months, Dead & Company will release two more complete live shows digitally every week. (Full details of the release schedule are listed below.) The shows will be available through all digital download and streaming services. In addition, the concerts will be offered in Apple Lossless and FLAC formats from Dead.net.

Live audio for these recordings was mixed and remastered by Dead & Company's Front of House Engineer, Derek Featherstone, and the band's Recording Engineer, Ross Harris.

The digital concert series will lead up to the band's 2019 Summer Tour, which will begin on May 31 at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California, and finish on July 6 at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado.

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers' bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the 'Fabulous' Forum in Inglewood, California.

Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field's all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company's 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.

12" Singles:

"Ceremony (version 1)"
Recorded at Eastern Artists Recordings in East Orange, New Jersey during the US visit the previous September, New Order's first single might, in an alternative universe, have been Joy Division's next. The 12" single, originally released in March 1981 (the 7" having been released in January) including the original version of "Ceremony," will feature remastered audio on heavyweight vinyl.

"Ceremony (version 2)"
The alternative, re-recorded version of "Ceremony" now also featuring Gillian Gilbert in the band was released later in 1981 and will feature the later alternative 'cream' sleeve rather than the original green and copper. This 12" will feature remastered audio on heavyweight vinyl.

"Ceremony (version 2)"
Side 2

"Everything's Gone Green"
Originally released on Factory Benelux in December 1981, this 12" featured "Everything's Gone Green," which had previously been on the reverse of the band's second 7" single "Procession" in September 1981, and "Cries And Whispers" and "Mesh" whose titles were flipped on the cover causing confusion amongst fans and compilers ever since. This 12" will feature remastered audio on heavyweight vinyl.

"Temptation"

Acclaimed 1980 HBO Special

LOS ANGELES - Linda Ronstadt released more than two dozen studio albums during a stellar career that has spanned more than five decades. Surprisingly, during all that time, the legendary singer never released a live album. That will finally change with an upcoming album that features amazing performances from a concert that Ronstadt recorded in 1980 for her acclaimed HBO television special.

Fans are invited to stream the previously unreleased song, "Just One Look" today by going here. LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD will be available on February 1 from Rhino on CD ($14.98) and LP ($19.98). The music will also be available through digital and streaming services on the same day.

Recorded on April 24, 1980 at Television Center Studios in Hollywood, the concert captures Ronstadt at the peak of her reign as America's most popular female rock singer. For LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD, Ronstadt selected 12 of her favorite performances from the original concert.

In concert, she was joined by an outstanding band that included guitarists Kenny Edwards and Danny Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel, bassist Bob Glaub, keyboardist Billy Payne (of Little Feat fame), pedal steel guitarist Dan Dugmore, and backing vocalist Wendy Waldman. Rounding out the band was Peter Asher - Ronstadt's producer and the concert's executive producer - who played percussion and sang background.

On stage, Ronstadt held the packed audience spellbound with powerful renditions of her biggest hits - "Blue Bayou," "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" and "It's So Easy" - plus an incredible, previously unreleased six-minute jam of her #1 smash, "You're No Good." The concert also showcased a trio of Top Ten hits from Ronstadt's then-current album - Mad Love - with performances of "I Can't Let Go," "How Do I Make You" and "Hurt So Bad." After its release in February 1980, Mad Love would become Ronstadt's seventh consecutive platinum-selling album.

John Boylan - who produced LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD - says the album almost didn't happen because HBO, Ronstadt, and her record label, Warner Bros., could not initially find the master tapes. It was a rink-side conversation with a Warner Bros. audio engineer at their sons' hockey practice that would finally lead him to the missing tapes. In the album's liner notes, he writes: "I have no way of calculating the odds of finding the lost tapes through a chance encounter at a hockey practice, but they must be astronomical - like winning the lottery. And in this case of remarkable serendipity, every Linda Ronstadt fan is a lottery winner."
