LOS ANGELES — Rhino Entertainment, Warner Music Group’s renowned catalog label, has acquired the rights to the legendary catalogs of Jefferson Starship, Starship & Hot Tuna, effective today. Also included in the deal are rights to a selection of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna albums, solo albums by Grace Slick, and additional albums and Grunt label signings related to various other band members including Paul Kantner and David Freiberg.

The announcement was made by Rhino President Mark Pinkus and band manager Jeff Jampol. The agreement includes the use of master recordings spanning nearly twenty years, from Jefferson Airplane’s 1972 album Long John Silver to Starship’s 1991 Greatest Hits (Ten Years And Change 1979-1991) compilation. To coincide with the announcement, Rhino has released a new digital compilation Starship Enterprise: The Best Of Jefferson Starship & Starship and has also made all four Grace Slick solo albums (Manhole, Dreams, Welcome To The Wrecking Ball!, and Software) available digitally for the first time.

"We're real happy to have Rhino take over so much of our catalog," said bassist Jack Casady. "They have an avid interest in keeping all the great music from our youth relevant and we look forward to a great relationship and all that will manifest."

"With Rhino's awesome track record of bona fides I am thrilled that they will be shepherding the re-releases of so much of our catalog," added bandmate Jorma Kaukonen.  "I can think of no better record company to handle this task."

In 1972, Jefferson Airplane lineup took a break after releasing the band’s seventh studio album, Long John Silver. With the Airplane on hiatus, Casady and Kaukonen focused on their side project Hot Tuna. Playing with a revolving cast of musicians, they recorded five albums over five years, including the group’s 1972 studio debut, Burgers. In 1973, Slick recorded Manhole, the first of her four solo albums. That same year, she and Kantner formed Jefferson Starship with fellow Airplane alumni Freiberg, Papa John Creach, and John Barbata, as well as guitarist Craig Chaquico and Pete Sears on bass and keyboards. Jefferson Airplane founding member Marty Balin also joined the band in 1975. Jefferson Starship released eight albums between 1974 and 1984. Each of them was certified gold or better and helped the band assemble a steady streak of classic hit singles such as “Count On Me,’ “Jane,” “Find Your Way Back, and “Miracles” from their 1975 double platinum #1 album Red Octopus.

In 1985, the band shortened its name to Starship before Slick, Chaquico, Sears, Mickey Thomas, and Donny Baldwin set off in a new musical direction. Over the next five years, Starship would record three albums, including the band's 1985 debut, Knee Deep In The Hoopla. A massive hit, the album was certified platinum and features two iconic #1 singles "We Built This City" and "Sara." Starship's music continues to be embraced in the streaming age, with both "We Built This City" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" surpassing the 100 million stream mark on Spotify, a rare feat for 30-year-old songs.

"Overseeing and managing great artists' legacies is a very specialized business, with a unique set of issues, problems, needs, and careful oversight. Rhino has the great ability to commit themselves, their extensive resources, and their passion for great music & art into long-term results and respectful handling of legacy artists' careers and work, said Jampol, manager for Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship, and Hot Tuna. "It was amazing to us how passionate Rhino President Mark Pinkus was about these artists and their music - he was a true fan(atic)! So, when it came time to find a label home for Jefferson Starship, Starship, Hot Tuna and various solo projects, Rhino was a natural choice, and my clients and I couldn't be happier with our new team."

"Rhino is the perfect home for these amazing and sometimes overlooked albums. We see an incredible opportunity to grow their fan base in a variety of ways," says Pinkus. "Whether you are a lifelong fan of over 50 years or a young kid that's only heard 'We Built This City' in a movie or television show, we feel like there is a vast selection of amazing music to turn many different audiences on to. We've had some tremendous success collaborating with Jeff Jampol's roster of superstar legacy artists over the years and look forward to a great future for these acts as well."

WHITESNAKE: SLIDE IT IN ULTIMATE SPECIAL EDITION

6CD/DVD Collection Includes Newly Remastered Versions Of The Album's U.K. And
U.S. Mixes, Unreleased Live And Studio Recordings, Music Videos And More

Four Different Versions Will Be Available From Rhino / Parlophone On March 8

LOS ANGELES - Whitesnake scored its first platinum-selling album in 1984 with Slide It In, a release that has sold more than six million copies worldwide thanks to hard-rocking songs like "Love Ain't No Stranger," "Slow An' Easy" and the title track. The classic album turns 35 this year and Rhino / Parlophone is celebrating with several new versions, including an enormous seven-disc boxed set.

SLIDE IT IN: THE ULTIMATE SPECIAL EDITION will be available on March 8 for $74.98 and is available for pre-order here. The 6CD/DVD collection includes newly remastered versions of both the U.K. and U.S. mixes of the album as well as the 35th Anniversary remixes from 2019, plus unreleased live and studio recordings, music videos, concert footage, and a new interview with Whitesnake founder and lead singer, David Coverdale.

Three other versions of Slide It In will also be available the same day. A double-CD Deluxe Edition includes the newly remastered U.K. and U.S. mixes expanded with a selection of bonus tracks ($24.98). The double-LP Deluxe Edition features the newly remastered U.K. and U.S. mixes ($31.98). And finally, a single-disc version includes the newly remastered brand-new mix of the complete album ($9.98). The music will be available digitally as well.

"Slide It In was always meant to be a structured, more electric modern take on the classic blues-based hard rock that Whitesnake were famous for, but our new Hook City Hooligan, Mixer Extraordinaire Christopher Collier, has hand-tooled this classic record for the 21st century," says Coverdale. "Hearing all the performances so fresh and so clear after 35 years was amazing. Mel, Cozy and Jon's playing on the record is as vital now as it was all those years ago. All the featured players shine. Not only did Christopher get the best out of the recording, but he gives the album a fresh coat of sonic paint bringing it right up to date. I'm personally thrilled with it."

After releasing Saints & Sinners in 1982, Whitesnake reconvened the following year in Germany to begin recording songs for what would become the band's sixth studio album, Slide It In. At the time, band members included Coverdale, guitarists Micky Moody and Mel Galley, bassist Colin Hodgkinson and keyboardist Jon Lord. The album was initially released in 1984 in the U.K., where it climbed into the Top 10.

Soon after, the band's line-up changed. Jon Lord left to rejoin Deep Purple and Moody and Hodgkinson were replaced by guitarist John Sykes, and Neil Murray, who was Whitesnake's original bassist. Prior to its U.S. release in 1985, Slide It In was remixed while newly recorded parts by Sykes, Murray and keyboardist Bill Cuomo were added, resulting in two distinct versions of the album, both of which are included in this set.

SLIDE IT IN: THE ULTIMATE SPECIAL EDITION features unreleased versions of every album track, including 35th Anniversary remixes made this year, as well as monitor mixes recorded in 1983. The set boasts more than a dozen unreleased live recordings from 1984 that feature an entire concert from Glasgow, Scotland, plus several songs from Jon Lord's final show with Whitesnake in Sweden. The collection's final disc unearths 30 tracks that cover original demos and early mixes for album tracks, as well as unfinished song ideas.

The DVD from SLIDE IT IN: THE ULTIMATE SPECIAL EDITION mixes music videos and live performances, all of which have been carefully restored and remixed in 5.1 Surround Sound for the first time ever. A newly recorded interview with singer David Coverdale rounds out the DVD.

SPYING THROUGH A KEYHOLE
(DEMOS AND UNRELEASED SONGS)

4 x 7" Vinyl Singles Boxed Set Of Previously Unreleased* David Bowie
Recordings Including The Earliest Known Version Of Space Oddity

Available On Parlophone April 5

LOS ANGELES - With 2019 marking 50 years since David Bowie's first hit, "Space Oddity," Parlophone is set to release a 7" vinyl singles boxed set of nine previously unreleased recordings* from the era during which "Space Oddity" was first conceived.

The title SPYING THROUGH A KEYHOLE is a lyric taken from the previously unknown song "Love All Around" and though most of the other titles are known, these versions have never been officially released until late last year (see footnote). Most of the recordings are solo vocal and acoustic home demo performances, unless otherwise stated.

The photography that adorns the box front and the print inside is by Ray Stevenson and was taken in Tony Visconti's flat in the summer of 1968.

The design of each single label is presented to reflect the way David sent many of his demos to publishers and record companies, featuring his own handwritten song titles on EMIDISC acetate labels. The singles themselves are all mono and play at 45 r.p.m.

DAVID BOWIE
SPYING THROUGH A KEYHOLE (DEMOS AND UNRELEASED SONGS)
Track List

Single 1
Side 1
"Mother Grey" (Demo)
This mid-tempo tale of a fledgling son fleeing the nest features multi-tracked vocals, guitars and harmonica from Bowie.

Side 2
"In The Heat Of The Morning" (Demo)
A well-known early Bowie song but presented here in demo form with final lyrics.

Single 2
Side 1
"Goodbye 3d (Threepenny) Joe" (Demo)
A charming demo from 1968 not to be confused with "Threepenny Pierrot," a song performed by Bowie captured for posterity in the Scottish TV production of Pierrot In Turquoise early in 1970.

Side 2
"Love All Around" (Demo)
A delightful love song from whence the title of this collection came: "I see a pop tune spying through a keyhole from the other room."

Single 3
Side 1
"London Bye, Ta-Ta" (Demo)
An early demo version of the song with completely different lyrics in a couple of the verses compared to those of the later full band versions.

Side 2
"Angel Angel Grubby Face" (Demo Version 1)
The first and only previously known demo of this song.

Single 4
Side 1
"Angel Angel Grubby Face" (Demo Version 2)
A later version of the same song with alternative lyrics.

"Space Oddity" (Demo Excerpt)
The lyric and arrangement variations lend weight to the theory that this fragment is possibly the first ever recorded demo of one of Bowie's most famous songs.

Side 2
"Space Oddity" (Demo) with John 'Hutch' Hutchinson
Originally conceived as a song for a duo to perform, this is the first known version to feature John 'Hutch' Hutchinson again with lyric and arrangement variations.

Due to the nature of some of the solo home demos where Bowie accompanied himself on acoustic guitar, the recording quality isn't always of a usual studio fidelity. This is partly due to Bowie's enthusiastic strumming hitting the red on a couple of the tracks, along with the limitations of the original recording equipment and tape degradation. However, the historical importance of these songs and the fact that the selections are from an archive of tracks cleared for release by Bowie, overrides this shortcoming.

*Although this will be the first physical release of these tracks, Parlophone did make them available on streaming services for a limited period only in December 2018.

ALPHAVILLE: FOREVER YOUNG

THE ICONIC ALBUM FROM 1984 REMASTERED FOR THE FIRST TIME
EVER INCLUDING ADDITIONAL BONUS MATERIAL

Available As 3CD / DVD / LP Super Deluxe Limited Edition On March 15

LOS ANGELES - The world of pop music changed forever on January 12, 1984. It was the day when Alphaville released their debut single "Big In Japan," the first giant step on the band's way to global stardom. The song not only shot straight to #1 on the charts in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the Billboard Dance Chart, but also effortlessly dominated the Top 10 in the UK and many other countries across the globe. It was just the beginning of a much bigger adventure! After their globally successful first single, Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd and Frank Mertens recorded their debut album Forever Young that enjoys international popularity to this day.

FOREVER YOUNG (SUPER DELUXE) will be released on March 15, comprising of three CDs, one DVD and vinyl ($74.98) and features the first-ever remastered version of the album. The release will also be available digitally on the same day and is available for pre-order by going here.

Even before the album was released, the band unveiled their second single "Sounds Like A Melody" that topped the charts in Sweden yet again and reached the Top 10 in several European countries. The title track "Forever Young" was released along with the album on September 27, 1984. Since then the track has become one of the greatest pop anthems of all time. It will be hard to name another track that has been covered as frequently across all genres (by Imagine Dragons, rapper Jay-Z or Kim Wilde) or included as often in movies and TV series. The Forever Young album hit the Top 20 in six European countries, went triple Gold in Germany and was awarded a Swedish Rockbjörnen as "best foreign album".

Alphaville vocalist Marian Gold says, "My musical career actually kicked off with a kicking out. When 'Big in Japan' had been released and stormed the charts all over Europe in the blink of an eye I was still busy in this restaurant kitchen in Münster peeling potatoes. And the cook said: 'Boy, they're playing your song on the radio every hour.' And then he threw me out."

FOREVER YOUNG (SUPER DELUXE) comes equipped with a high-quality remastered version of the album and lots of additional material. CD 1 features the remastered original album, including "Big in Japan," "Sounds Like A Melody" and "Forever Young." CD 2 presents the original single versions, B-sides and 12" singles. CD 3 contains 16 rare demos and alternative versions as well as some of Alphaville's early compositions in German language. The DVD features the 60-minute documentary "Never Grow Up - The Story of Forever Young," including current interviews with Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd and the original album producers Colin Pearson and Wolfgang Loos among others, as well as the original music videos to "Forever Young," "Big In Japan," "The Jet Set" and "Sounds Like a Melody."

The package is topped off by a 24-page, vinyl-sized booklet, created by the art director of the original album in close collaboration with the band itself, containing numerous rare and previously unreleased photos, liner notes, quotes and production notes by the band, its former A&R and the producers.

"Producing the 'Forever Young' album back in the day was quite an adventure that brought about amazing results. We focused mainly on the vinyl album, seeing as CD mastering in 1984 was not yet as advanced. Luckily, I was able to dig up all of the original analogue master tapes that we had actually only recorded to be on the safe side. The newly mastered version of the album has a much warmer, rounder and more transparent sound, just as we had imagined back in the day," says Bernhard Lloyd.

For the occasion of the band's 35th anniversary, Alphaville will be touring Germany from March 15th through April 10th, 2019.

LOS ANGELES - Skid Row were unleashed on the world when their self-titled debut album was released in January 1989. That year, the album steadily climbed the Billboard chart to peak at #6 on the strength of the band's hits "Youth Gone Wild," "I Remember You," and  Billboard Top 5 single "18 And Life."

Rhino celebrates the 30th anniversary of the group's multi-platinum debut with a digital deluxe edition that includes the original album remastered for the first time, expanded with the bonus track "Forever." The deluxe edition also features a previously unreleased live performance from 1989, marking the first ever release of a full live show from the band. SKID ROW: 30TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION is available now on all digital download and streaming services.

Skid Row was formed in 1986 in Toms River, New Jersey. Two years later, guitarists Dave Sabo and Scotti Hill, bassist Rachel Bolan, drummer Rob Affuso, and singer Sebastian Bach signed with Atlantic Records. To record their debut, the quintet traveled to Royal Recorders in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin to work with producer Michael Wagener (Dokken, Great White, White Lion).

Shortly after the album was released on January 24, 1989, Skid Row was certified platinum, and the band began touring the world, first with Bon Jovi on its New Jersey Syndicate Tour, and later with Aerosmith during the band's tour for the album Pump. The extensive touring, coupled with heavy rotation of Skid Row's music videos on MTV, helped fuel the debut album's enormous popularity.

Skid Row would remain in the Billboard album chart's Top 10 for three months, and the record would eventually be certified platinum five times. The first single from the album - "Youth Gone Wild" - was followed by the Top 10 hits "18 and Life" and "I Remember You." SKID ROW: 30TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION includes the song "Forever" as a bonus track. Originally recorded in 1988 during the sessions for Skid Row, the song remained unreleased until 1998 when it appeared on, 40 Seasons: The Best of Skid Row.

SKID ROW: 30TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION also features an unreleased recording of the band's April 28, 1989 performance at the Marquee club in California. The show includes powerful live versions of the classic hits from the album as well as fan-favorites such as "Rattlesnake Shake," "Piece Of Me," and "Big Guns," as well as the set-closing cover of the Kiss classic "Cold Gin."
