DEAD & COMPANY DIGITAL CONCERT SERIES CONTINUES
WITH 2019 “PLAYING IN THE SAND” SHOWS

Three Full Shows From 2019 Event Are Available Today On All Digital Download And Streaming Services, With Apple Lossless And FLAC Formats Offered From Dead.net

LOS ANGELES – The Dead & Company digital concert series will keep on truckin’ on in 2020. The series resumes today (January 10) with the digital release of all three of the January 2019 “Playing In The Sand” shows. They arrive before the third annual “Playing In The Sand” all-inclusive concert vacation in Riviera Cancún, Mexico is scheduled to take place next weekend, January 16-19, 2020.

The 2019 “Playing In The Sand” shows featured over 50 different songs across three nights. All audio is available now through all digital download and streaming services. In addition, the concerts will be offered in Apple Lossless and FLAC formats from Dead.net.

Live audio for these recordings was mixed and remastered by Dead & Company’s Front of House Engineer, Derek Featherstone, and the band’s Recording Engineer, Ross Harris.

Later this year, Rhino will release all 29 of the shows that Dead & Company played in 2019 via digital download and streaming services. Full details will be revealed in the coming weeks. That tour was bookended by two hometown shows in the Bay Area, kicking off May 31 at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View and finishing up on December 31 at Chase Center in San Francisco.

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. Since its formation, the band has completed six tours, playing to more than 2 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Having toured consistently since its 2015 debut, the band has grossed $205.5 million and sold 2.18 million tickets across 120 reported shows.

Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record.

DAVID BOWIE IS IT ANY WONDER?
STREAMING EP OF UNRELEASED & RARE MATERIAL

“The Man Who Sold The World” (ChangesNowBowie Version) Available Now – First Of Six Tracks To Be Released Over Six Weeks

ChangesNowBowie Limited Edition Nine Track LP/CD Of Previously Unreleased Material To Be Issued For Record Store Day

Parlophone Records is proud to announce DAVID BOWIE IS IT ANY WONDER? a six track EP of unreleased and rare tracks to be released over six weeks.

The first of these is a previously unreleased version of “The Man Who Sold The World,” released today as a streaming-only digital single in celebration of both Bowie’s birthday and the 50th anniversary of the writing and recording of this classic.  Five more songs will be released on a weekly basis from January 17.

“The Man Who Sold The World” (ChangesNowBowie Version) is taken from the nine track session ChangesNowBowie, recorded for radio and broadcast by the BBC on Bowie’s 50th birthday on  January 8, 1997.

The broadcast featured an interview with Bowie by Mary Ann Hobbs interspersed with specially recorded birthday messages and questions from the likes of Scott Walker, Damon Albarn, Bono, Robert Smith, and many more.

This mostly acoustic session was a stripped back affair featuring some of Bowie’s favorites of his own compositions and was produced by Bowie himself, Reeves Gabrels, and Mark Plati.

CHANGESNOWBOWIE was recorded and mixed at Looking Glass Studios in New York in November 1996 during rehearsals for Bowie’s 50th birthday concert at Madison Square Garden. Gail Ann Dorsey (bass, vocals), Gabrels (guitars) and Plati (keyboards and programming) accompanied Bowie on the recording.

CHANGESNOWBOWIE will be released in limited quantities on LP and CD for Record Store Day on April 18, 2020.  The cover art for the album will feature a stunning black and white portrait of Bowie by renowned photographer Albert Watson, taken in New York in 1996.  More details about the album will be announced shortly.

DAVID BOWIE
ALABAMA SONG LIMITED EDITION 40th ANNIVERSARY
7-INCH PICTURE DISC

SET TO RELEASE ON FEBRUARY 14

February 14th, 2020 sees the release of the latest special limited David Bowie 7-inch picture disc, the 40th anniversary edition of “Alabama Song.”

Originally released in the U.K. on February 15, 1980, “Alabama Song” was initially written as a poem by Bertolt Brecht in 1925 and was put to music by Kurt Weill for the 1927 play Little Mahogany. David Bowie was a long-standing Brecht fan and included the song in the set-list for his 1978 Isolar II tour.

The studio version of “Alabama Song” on the A-side of this release was recorded on July 2nd 1978, the day after the final show of the European leg of the tour at Tony Visconti’s Good Earth Studios in Soho, London.

The AA-Side features two previously unreleased tracks: a rendition of Heroes track “Joe The Lion” recorded at the soundcheck of the tour’s final Earl's Court show on July 1, 1978. Though rehearsed for the Isolar II tour “Joe The Lion” would not make its live debut until the Serious Moonlight tour of 1983.

The second track on the AA-side is a live version of “Alabama Song” also recorded July 1st 1978—a different performance than the one featured on the live album Welcome To The Blackout.

Special Limited Edition White Vinyl Available Exclusively Through Rhino.com

Out January 24

ELECTRONIC by Electronic is to be reissued as a limited edition white vinyl on January 24, 2020 and will be available exclusively through Rhino.com as well as on black vinyl through all other retailers. For the first time on vinyl, both versions will come with the black cover, which was first used on the version of the CD released by Parlophone in 1994.

Electronic were the coming together of Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr in 1987. This was the year of the sudden and wholly unexpected demise of The Smiths, who imploded in July after Marr left the group. Two months later, midway through a North American tour, Bernard Sumner shocked his bandmates by announcing that he planned to take time out from New Order.

Marr and Sumner had met in 1984 when Marr added guitar to Atom Rock by Quando Quango, an electro-dance track co-produced by Sumner. Marr sums up their coming together for Electronic, "We were two musicians who wanted to get away from the suffocating politics of the band. At the same time, it was OK for duos and DJs and non-groups to make records, and that really appealed to Bernard and me.”

The project was a joyous Venn Diagram of Sumner and Marr’s influences. Although ostensibly coming from different disciplines, the experimental dance-pop of New Order and the full-bodied jangle of The Smiths, their common interests were many: dance music, a good tune and pushing musical boundaries. At the time of release (May 1991), ELECTRONIC was met with huge acclaim and stands up as one of the most important electronica albums of all time…

Q Magazine scoring is 5 out of 5 said: Its strength is in conflict ... The inexorable pounding of the beatbox versus the fragile sadness of Sumner's voice and the he/she's leaving stories; the symmetry of the synthesized or sampled sounds versus the sheer blood and bone physicality of Marr's guitar.

NME scoring it 8 out of 10 said : This is a pretty 1990s sort of a record, fresh as a daisy and wearing huge new oxblood Doc Martens.
