Depeche Mode 12" Vinyl Singles Collector's Edition Boxed Set Series Continues With Release Of Violator | The 12" Singles On July 17

Depeche Mode’s 12" vinyl singles project continues with the release of VIOLATOR | THE 12" SINGLES on July 17, 2020 from Rhino.

VIOLATOR | THE 12" SINGLES, a collector's edition deluxe boxed set, contains ten 12" vinyl discs showcasing the singles, “Personal Jesus,” “Enjoy The Silence,” “Policy Of Truth,” “World In My Eyes,” and key B-sides and mixes contemporaneous to Depeche Mode's watershed Violator album.

From their earliest days as a band, Depeche Mode have championed 12" vinyl, embracing the singular power of the format and the avenues of innovation the format opened. The 12" single allowed the band to explore new sonic possibilities while the tactile physical beauty of the packaging gave Depeche Mode room to develop a sophisticated and commanding visual aesthetic. Depeche Mode used their singles discography as a means of offering left field remixes and other delights for their fans.

Violator extended Depeche Mode's increasingly mind-blowing run of 12" singles (with a virtually unprecedented number of remixes for "Personal Jesus" alone). Violator introduced fans to some of the most enduring songs in the DM catalog including "Enjoy The Silence," "Policy Of Truth" and "World In My Eyes."

VIOLATOR | THE 12" SINGLES, contains the original and special edition versions of each single, including the etched vinyl version of "Enjoy The Silence," the blue sealed edition of “World In My Eyes” plus a bonus promo 12" of “World In My Eyes” which features exclusive rarities.

Rhino released the first two boxed sets in the Depeche Mode 12" singles series, Speak & Spell | The Singles and A Broken Frame | The Singles in August 2018 with the second batch Construction Time Again | The 12" Singles and Some Great Reward | The 12" Singles arriving in December 2018. Rhino also released Depeche Mode's Black Celebration | The 12" Singles and Music For The Masses | The 12" Singles on May 31, 2019.

Each boxed set in the series contains the singles from each Depeche Mode album on audiophile-quality 12" vinyl, with audio mastered from the original tapes. The artwork for the exterior of each of the boxed sets draws on iconography inspired by the original releases, while the vinyl sleeves themselves feature the original single artwork.

THE DEPECHE MODE 12" SINGLES SERIES will continue over the coming years, with plans to release boxes containing the singles from each of the band's albums in similar deluxe audiophile-grade collector's editions.

LOS ANGELES – Ol’ Dirty Bastard made his solo debut 25 years ago with the Grammy®-nominated album, Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version. An instant hip-hop classic, it peaked at #2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and crossed over to reach #7 on the Billboard 200. The album quickly earned gold-certification and would introduce fans to two of ODB’s biggest hits: “Brooklyn Zoo” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya.”

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the album has now been certified platinum by the RIAA and will be celebrated with two new special editions from Rhino.

The first represents one of the most-expansive hip-hop reissues in history, THE RETURN TO THE 36 CHAMBERS: THE DIRTY VERSION (25TH ANNIVERSARY DIGITAL DELUXE EDITION). This digital-exclusive will be available for streaming and download on March 27, a day before the album’s original release date in 1995.

This 43-track reissue features a newly remastered version of the original album along with music from the era that has never been available digitally, including EP tracks, rare instrumentals and promo-only releases. Among the highlights are the digital debuts of “Ol’ Dirty’s Back,” “Don’t You Know, Part II,” and the “Brooklyn Zoo” b-side, “Give It To Ya Raw” (SD50 Remix).

The 25TH ANNIVERSARY DIGITAL DELUXE EDITION also features the debut of two previously unreleased tracks: “Brooklyn Zoo (Stripped Version)” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya (Stripped Version).” Both songs have been stripped back to their essentials musically, which puts the focus on the lyrics and highlight how great a storyteller ODB was. “Brooklyn Zoo (Stripped Version)” is available now on digital download and streaming services. Click here to listen now.

A second anniversary collection will be released on April 18 for Record Store Day. RETURN TO THE 36 CHAMBERS: THE DIRTY VERSION (25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION) is a vinyl boxed set that features all 17 songs from the original album on nine 7-inch singles pressed on blue, yellow, and white vinyl. Limited to 3,000 individually numbered copies, the set will be available for $89.98.

ODB was a founding member of the influential hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan. Their 1993 debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), is widely considered to be one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made.

ODB released Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version two years after Wu-Tang Clan’s debut. Several members from the group made special appearances on ODB’s album, including RZA, Raekwon, Method Man, Masta Killa, and Ghostface Killah. RZA produced most of the album, with additional production from ODB, True Master, and 4th Disciple.

“Ol' Dirty Bastard is a real-life legend. We at the Estate are honored and excited to celebrate ODB’s 25th anniversary of his solo career. He was such a talented musician, and a larger-than-life icon who has inspired music fans across the globe,” said Nicole Beckett, Creative Director at Four Screens Management, Estate of ODB. His lasting influence has had a profound influence on both music and hip hop culture. We are thrilled to be working with Rhino to further his legacy.”

“My children and I are beyond excited to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of my late husband’s album, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version,” said Icelene Jones, Administrator of the Estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard. “We are even more excited and appreciative of the fans, who have never wavered in their support for ODB, and have honored his talent with a platinum album this year!”

The Estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard is dedicated to promoting the legacy of a Platinum Recording Artist and unique American hip hop icon. Ol’ Dirty Bastard was a founder of the Wu-Tang Clan, a rap group that first rose to mainstream prominence with their 1993 debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). After establishing the Wu-Tang Clan, Ol’ Dirty Bastard went on to pursue a successful solo career, working with musicians such as Mariah Carey, Kelis, Pras, Mya and Wyclef Jean. His solo albums include 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version and N***a Please. For more information, visit Instagram: @oldirtybastardlegacy

Third Man Records Cass Corridor, Detroit Will Honor Fun House With New Exhibit

LOS ANGELES – In 1999, Rhino gave Stooges’ fans the ultimate fly-on-the-wall experience with 1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions. This ambitious seven-CD boxed set included every take from the recording sessions for the band’s second album, Fun House.

Rhino is primed to celebrate the album’s 50th anniversary this summer with FUN HOUSE – 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION, featuring a newly remastered version of the original studio album and the first-ever vinyl release of The Complete Fun House Sessions. Limited to 1,970 individually numbered copies, the set features 15 LPs and two 7-inch singles for $399.98. Pre-orders are available now exclusively at Rhino.com and the collection will be released on July 17.

The anniversary celebration also includes a Fun House exhibition at Third Man Records Cass Corridor, Detroit that runs July 17 to August 7. The exclusive, free exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the very definition of Detroit rock n’ roll, including personal objects, images, music and memories from the band's history and private collections.

Rhino’s vinyl boxed set opens with a newly remastered version of Fun House. To maximize audio quality, the music was cut at 45 rpm and pressed on two LPs. What unfolds across the set’s remaining 13 LPs is nothing less than every take from the Fun House sessions, in order, exactly as The Stooges recorded them. Those studio tracks are followed by a recording of The Stooges’ performing live in New York City in August 1970, just as Fun House was released. The 39-minute concert remained unreleased until 2010, when it came out as Have Some Fun: Live At Ungano’s.

Rounding out the music in this deluxe set are two mixes of the single “Down On The Street”/“I Feel Alright.” The first is the “Mono Single Edit” released in France, and the other is the unique “Single Mix” that was unreleased until the original 1999 boxed set. Each one is pressed on 7-inch vinyl and presented in a sleeve with reproduction artwork.

Beyond the music, the collection also includes a 28-page booklet with rare photos and extensive liner notes, featuring an essay by Henry Rollins and testimonials penned by rock ‘n’ roll luminaries including Flea, Joan Jett, Shirley Manson, Duff McKagan, Thurston Moore, Tom Morello, Karen O, Steven Van Zandt, and Mike Watt, among others, plus posters, prints, a slipmat, and a 45 adapter.

SEPULTURA: BENEATH THE REMAINS DELUXE EDITION

Remastered And Expanded 2CD Version Of The Band’s Influential 1989 Album Features More Than A Dozen Unreleased Studio Recordings And Live Performances

2CD And 2LP Versions Will Be Available On April 3

LOS ANGELES – Sepultura’s major-label debut on Roadrunner Records, Beneath the Remains, had a deep impact on metal music when it came out in 1989. Widely regarded today as a thrash-metal classic, the album perfectly distilled the Brazilian band’s potent mix of piercing melodies and pummeling rhythms.

Rhino salutes the acclaimed record with a new collection that features a remastered version of the original album, plus more than a dozen previously unreleased studio and live recordings. BENEATH THE REMAINS: DELUXE EDITION will be available on April 3 as a two-CD set ($19.98). On the same day, the Deluxe Edition will also be available as a double-LP set on 180-gram vinyl ($31.98). Exclusive orange color vinyl LP versions are available via Rhino.com. The music will also be available through digital outlets and streaming services.

In December 1988, brothers Max (guitar/vocals) and Igor Cavalera (drums), Paulo Jr. (bass) and Andreas Kisser (guitar) recorded Beneath the Remains in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with producer Scott Burns. Soon after its release in April 1989, the album was hailed by fans and critics alike for standout songs like “Inner Self,” “Primitive Future” and the title track. The album has been remastered especially for this collection.

The Deluxe Edition also features nine unreleased “mixdown” recordings taken from the Beneath the Remains sessions at Nas Nuvens Studios in Rio de Janeiro. Highlights include versions of “Lobotomy” and “Mass Hypnosis,” as well as instrumental versions “Slaves Of Pain” and “Sarcastic Existence.”

The studio tracks are complemented by unreleased recordings of the band performing live on September 22, 1989 at the Zeppelinhalle, West Germany. The concert features songs from Beneath the Remains (“Primitive Future” and “Inner Self”) and the band’s previous albums (“Troops Of Doom” and “Escape To The Void”), along with covers of Black Sabbath’s “Symptom Of the Universe” and the Dead Kennedys “Holiday In Cambodia.”

Founded by the Cavalera brothers in 1984, the group recorded two full-length albums – Morbid Visions (1986) and Schizophrenia (1987) – before signing with Roadrunner Records in 1988. Since then, Sepultura’s dynamic studio recordings and intense live performances have earned it fans everywhere. The band has sold nearly 20 million albums worldwide, including more than three million in the United States.

The current version of Sepultura (Derrick Green, Paulo Jr., Andreas Kisser, Eloy Casagrande) released a new album, Quadra, on February 7 and will tour the U.S. this spring. Former members Max and Igor Cavalera – who perform together in the band Cavalera Conspiracy recently completed a sold-out European tour in December 2019. A complete list of upcoming tour dates can be found here.

DAVID BOWIE
NEVER BEFORE HEARD 1974 LIVE RECORDINGS UNEARTHED

I’M ONLY DANCING (THE SOUL TOUR '74) (2-LP / 2-CD)
LIMITED EDITION RECORD STORE DAY 2020
TO BE RELEASED ON APRIL 18

In addition to the previously announced Record Store Day 2020 release of CHANGESNOWBOWIE, Parlophone Records are proud to also announce the unearthing of never before heard recordings of David Bowie in concert circa 1974 in the form of I’M ONLY DANCING (THE SOUL TOUR 74) on 2-LP and 2-CD. Both will be available on Record Store Day on April 18.

Taken from recently discovered sources in The David Bowie Archive®, I’M ONLY DANCING (THE SOUL TOUR ‘74)  was recorded mostly during Bowie’s performance at the Michigan Palace, Detroit on October 20, 1974 with the encores taken from the Municipal Auditorium, Nashville on November 30, 1974. The only song missing from the full set during the October 20 performance is “Diamond Dogs,” which was unfortunately only recorded in part. To make up for that, it was decided to include the encores from the November 30 performance which featured “Diamond Dogs” but also enables a fuller representation of the set from The Soul Tour including such numbers as “Knock On Wood” and the “Foot Stompin’ / I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate” medley.

The Soul Tour was a radical mid-tour departure from Bowie’s 1974 Diamond Dogs theatrical extravaganza. During a three week break in late 1974, the Diamond Dogs Tour’s elaborate six-ton Hunger City stage set was drastically stripped back, and the tour’s set list overhauled to include as-yet-unreleased tracks from the Young Americans sessions at Sigma Sound in Philadelphia. The Soul Tour also featured a revamped band, augmented to include musicians and vocalists from those sessions, and rechristened The Mike Garson Band.

I’M ONLY DANCING (THE SOUL TOUR 74) follows on from the previous Record Store Day 2-LP release Cracked Actor (Live Los Angeles ’74) and is an incredible historical document of a performer and band at the height of their live powers. The artwork for both the 2-LP and 2-CD releases is based on the original design for the programs available at venues for dates on The Soul Tour. The Soul Tour has taken on a mythical status among Bowie fans, as the tour only visited 17 cities in the East and South of the US. This is the first time that any audio from this incarnation of the tour has ever been officially released.

CHANGESNOWBOWIE is a nine-track session recorded for radio and broadcast by the BBC on Bowie’s 50th birthday on January 8, 1997. The broadcast originally featured an interview with Bowie by Mary Ann Hobbs interspersed with specially recorded birthday messages and questions from the likes of Scott Walker, Damon Albarn, Bono, Robert Smith and many more. The interview and birthday messages are not included on this album. This mostly acoustic session was a stripped back affair featuring some of Bowie’s favorites of his own compositions and was produced by Bowie himself, Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati.

CHANGESNOWBOWIE was recorded and mixed at Looking Glass Studios in New York in November 1996 before rehearsals for Bowie’s 50th birthday concert at Madison Square Garden and the cover art for the album will feature a stunning black and white portrait of Bowie by renowned photographer Albert Watson, taken in New York in 1996.
