THE YOUNG RASCALS
“GROOVIN’” (POOLSIDE REMIX)

Chillwave Band Poolside Adds Modern Twist To The Band’s 1967 Classic

Newly Certified Platinum By The RIAA

LOS ANGELES—New York rock group The Rascals (then The Young Rascals) are rolling out their 1967 song of the Summer, “Groovin’,” with a fresh remix by chillwave band Poolside

The GRAMMY® Hall of Fame song is being reimagined with a smooth electronic wash that elevates the tranquil nature of its original sound. Poolside’s remix harmoniously fuses the classic track with French house-inspired filters and synth, complimenting The Rascals’ Latin influence.

Reflecting on the track’s continued success, Felix Cavaliere states, “I am very humbled and honored that after 57 years, GROOVIN’ has reached another huge milestone by being certified Platinum for streaming and downloads. Allowing new audiences to be introduced to our music is amazing. KEEP ON GROOVIN’.”

Gene Cornish adds, “We are so thankful that Groovin’ has reached Platinum digital certification. People all over the world are still enjoying the Rascals' music. This is all that matters.”

Formed in 1965 by Felix Cavaliere (vocals and keyboard), Eddie Brigati (vocals and percussion), Gene Cornish (guitar), and Dino Danelli (drums), the quartet emerged as a powerhouse, dominating the Billboard charts with a string of successful singles. In April 1967, The Rascals released their timeless track, “Groovin’,” a baião and R&B-infused song that saw them step away from their traditional garage rock sound.

Written by Brigati and Cavaliere, “Groovin’” was inspired by Cavaliere, who could only see his then-girlfriend each Sunday between a heavy touring and recording schedule. The track was met with commercial and critical acclaim, landing at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was later certified platinum and solidified a place on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll” list. “Groovin’”’s success spearheaded The Rascals’ evolution into jazz and Latin arrangements, later dubbed “blue-eyed soul.”

About Poolside

Poolside is the recording project of producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Paradise. In 2011, Poolside set out to produce appropriately chill music for summer soirees, a light but danceable kind of music with sunny vibes and liquid rhythm that he dubbed "Daytime Disco." Since then, Poolside has released four acclaimed albums – Pacific Standard Time (2012), Heat (2017),  Low Season (2020) and Blame It All On Love (2023) – remixed countless high-profile acts such as Billy Idol, Jack Johnson & Milky Chance, DRAMA, Miami Horror, L'impératrice, Purple Disco Machine, Big Wild and more.  Poolside has also recently collaborated with Mindchatter, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Todd Edwards, NEIL FRANCES, Brijean and Buscabulla. Poolside’s live band has supported Kacey Musgraves, Earth, Wind & Fire and Tycho, along with performing at major music festivals, including Coachella, Primavera, Outside Lands, Lollapalooza and Corona Capital. Poolside’s cover of Neil Young’s classic “Harvest Moon'' - which they made a one-of-a-kind 12-inch just for James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and halted the pressing of the album to include in on their debut album Pacific Standard Time – has been streamed over 107M times.

LOS ANGELES — On June 8, 1999, Red Hot Chili Peppers released their seventh studio album, Californication. Produced by Rick Rubin, the album marked the return of guitarist John Frusciante - his first recording with the band since the 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

"Scar Tissue" debuted at No.9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Best Rock Song Grammy® Award in 2000. Chocolate And Cheese (Deluxe Edition)

1994 Alternative Rock Classic Remastered And Reissued With 15 Previously Unreleased Outtakes And Demos

3-LP Collection

Available August 2

Previously Unreleased Track “Junkie Boy” Available Today Digitally

LOS ANGELES — Since its debut 30 years ago, Ween’s Chocolate and Cheese has become an alternative rock classic and a highwater mark for Gene and Dean Ween’s polished songwriting and irreverent humor.

To celebrate the anniversary, Rhino will release Chocolate And Cheese (Deluxe Edition) on August 2. This 3-LP set features a newly remastered version of the original album, plus 15 previously unreleased demos and outtakes. The music will be available from digital and streaming platforms on the same day.

A previously unreleased version of “Junkie Boy” is available today digitally.

Anticipation for Chocolate and Cheese was fueled by the success of “Push Th’ Little Daisies” from Ween’s previous album, 1992’s Pure Guava. When it arrived in September 1994, Chocolate and Cheese marked a new chapter for Dean and Gene (Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman) as they transitioned from four-track home recordings to a professional studio. Despite the equipment upgrade, the band remained gloriously weird on songs like “I Can’t Put My Finger On It,” “Voodoo Lady,” and the tribute to Parliament-Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel, “A Tear For Eddie.”

Melchiondo sifted through hundreds of hours of tapes before he and Freeman chose their favorites to assemble the bonus tracks. Melchiondo jokes, “…keeping with Ween tradition, Aaron and I probably picked all the wrong songs, mixed them, and now here they are.” All of the bonus tracks are previously unreleased, including non-album gems like “Warm Socks,” “Smooth Mover,” and “Dirty Money,” as well as demos for the album tracks “Candi,” “Take Me Away,” “Voodoo Lady,” and “Roses Are Free.”

Renowned audio engineer Bernie Grundman–best known for his esteemed work on classic albums such as Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Steely Dan’s Aja–remastered the album for the Deluxe Edition using the original flat master tapes to optimize audio fidelity. Grundman also mastered the set’s 15 bonus tracks, sourced from cassettes and DAT tapes from the band’s extensive archive.

In the Deluxe Edition’s liner notes, Melchiondo says listening to the collection takes him back to the album’s creation. “When I hear it, I feel like I’m listening to an autobiography of our lives in the early to mid-’90s…If it sounds like we had fun making it, we did. That’s kind of what Ween is all about, though.”

Catch Ween this August at select dates across the Pacific Northwest and on September 27 for their sold-out show at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, playing the entire Chocolate and Cheese album for the 30th anniversary.
