RUSH IN RIO DEBUTS ON VINYL

Four-LP Set Includes The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Trio’s Entire 2002 Performance In Rio de Janeiro, Plus Two Bonus Tracks From The Same Tour

Available From Rhino On January 18

LOS ANGELES – Following a nearly five-year break from touring, Rush returned to the stage in 2002 to support the trio’s seventeenth studio album, Vapor Trails. During the tour, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart played to some of the biggest crowds of the band’s career, including 40,000 people at the tour’s final stop in Rio de Janeiro. That concert was released in 2003 as RUSH IN RIO, which was certified gold in the U.S. and Canada.

That live album was originally released on CD and DVD, but has never appeared on vinyl – until now. RUSH IN RIO will be available on January 18 as four 180-gram LPs. The set is presented in a heavyweight gatefold jacket and comes with a code that allows the music to be downloaded digitally.

The collection includes all 29-songs the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers’ performed at the concert in Rio, plus two bonus tracks that were recorded at other stops during the Vapor Trails Tour. “Between Sun & Moon” was recorded on September 27, 2002 in Phoenix, AZ and “Vital Signs” was recorded on October 19, 2002 in Quebec City, Quebec.

Guitarist Alex Lifeson states, “In all the years of touring, few gigs matched the energy we witnessed from the Rio audience.  Throughout the night, they sang along to every song, which was quite a feat considering English is not so commonly spoken there.  They even sang robustly during ‘YYZ’ and that's an instrumental! In fact, during mixing, we often pulled the band tracks down and just listened to the audience and it was mind-blowing.  We were all so surprised by the welcome we received and the deep connection our fans had to Rush.  It remains one of the greatest highlights we've experienced in over 40 years of touring.”

Making the show in Rio rare and extraordinary, fan favorites that are rarely played together on the same night were peppered throughout the set list. This included the sprawling sci-fi epic “2112,” as well as “Closer To The Heart,” “YYZ,” “Freewill,” “New World Man,” “Tom Sawyer,” and “Limelight.” One of concert’s high points is Peart’s drum solo, which is titled “O Baterista,” Portuguese for “the drummer.” That performance earned the group a Grammy Award ® nomination for the Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

The songs that appear on RUSH IN RIO span the group’s entire career up to that point, including several tracks from Vapor Trails: “Earthshine,” “One Little Victory,” “Ghost Rider” and “Secret Touch.” The remainder of the set list touches on most of Rush’s studio albums, including 1996’s Test For Echo (“Driven,” and a rare acoustic performance of “Resist”); 1984’s Grace Under Pressure (“Distant Early Warning” and “Red Sector A”); 1980’s Permanent Waves (“The Spirit Of Radio” and “Natural Science”) and 1974’s self-titled debut (“Working Man.”)

Since forming in 1968, Rush has become one of the world’s most-popular progressive rock bands. Between its debut album in 1974 and its final large-scale tour in 2015, the band has sold more than 40 million albums around the world, earning 24 gold, 14 platinum and three multi-platinum albums.

LOS ANGELES - Depeche Mode 12" vinyl singles project continues with the release of CONSTRUCTION TIME AGAIN | THE 12" SINGLES and SOME GREAT REWARD | THE 12" SINGLES on December 14.

Each of these definitive boxed sets contains six 12" vinyl singles contemporaneous to either Construction Time Again (1983) or Some Great Reward (1984). A pair of pivotal releases in the Depeche Mode canon, these albums significantly advanced the band's sound and vision, introducing audiences to some of the most inventive mixes in DM history while catapulting their international mass appeal to soaring new heights.

Construction Time Again marked the first time that Depeche Mode released limited edition versions of an album's 12" singles, each containing the original mix of each track. With this and Some Great Reward, Depeche Mode's commitment to the 12" single format as a distinct art form became even more evident.

CONSTRUCTION TIME AGAIN | THE 12" SINGLES and SOME GREAT REWARD | THE 12" SINGLES contain reproductions of limited edition versions of releases showcasing rare tracks, alternate mixes, 7" vinyl versions, live shows and more. Both will be available on December 14 for $124.98.

CONSTRUCTION TIME AGAIN | THE 12" SINGLES includes three reproductions of limited singles which each feature four bonus live performances recorded at London's Hammersmith Odeon on October 25, 1982. SOME GREAT REWARD | THE 12" SINGLES includes select live recordings from the Liverpool Empire Theatre, recorded September 29, 1984.

Groundbreaking 12" single tracks like "Everything Counts" (from Construction Time Again) and "People Are People" (from Some Great Reward) became staples in Depeche Mode's live shows; the new 12" singles boxed sets feature extended versions plus original 7" mixes of these songs. SOME GREAT REWARD | THE 12" SINGLES includes a new version of the 7" "Blasphemous Rumours" EP, available on 12" vinyl for the first time ever.

Depeche Mode embraced the power of 12" vinyl and the avenues of innovation it opened up. The 12" single allowed the band to explore new sonic possibilities while the physical beauty of the packaging gave Depeche Mode room to develop a sophisticated and commanding visual aesthetic. Depeche Mode used their singles discography as a means of offering left field remixes and other delights for their fans.

The first two boxed sets in the series, Speak & Spell | The Singles and A Broken Frame | The Singles were released on August 31.

Each boxed set in the series will contain the singles from each Depeche Mode album on audiophile-quality 12" vinyl, with audio mastered from the original tapes at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. The artwork for the exterior of each of the new boxed sets draws on street art iconography inspired by the original releases, while the vinyl sleeves themselves feature the original single artwork.

The Depeche Mode 12" Singles Series will continue over the coming years, with plans to release boxes containing the singles from each of the band's albums in similar deluxe audiophile-grade collector's editions.

Depeche Mode recently completed the Global Spirit Tour, a worldwide concert tour that started in May 2017 and finished summer 2018 with a pair of shows at the Waldbühne in Berlin on July 23 and 25. The 15-month Global Spirit Tour saw the band play to more than 3 million fans across Europe, North America and South America.

JONI MITCHELL LOVE HAS MANY FACES
TO BE RELEASED ON VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME

Limited-Edition 8-LP Vinyl Boxed Set Features Mitchell-Curated Collection Of 53 Songs Recorded Throughout Her Influential Career That Evoke Her Vision Of Love

Available From Rhino On November 2

LOS ANGELES – Beloved singer-songwriter-painter-poet Joni Mitchell will turn 75 this year on November 7. Rhino will start the birthday celebration a few days early by releasing Mitchell’s critically-acclaimed 2014 boxed set Love Has Many Faces on vinyl for the first time as a limited-edition, eight-LP boxed set.

LOVE HAS MANY FACES: A QUARTET, A BALLET, WAITING TO BE DANCED was first conceived as the music to a ballet about love. But after spending 18 months trying to distill everything she’d written about love—and the lack of it—down to a single disc, Mitchell abandoned the ballet. “I wanted the music to feel like a total work—a new work. No matter what I did, though, at that length, it remained merely a collection of songs,” she wrote in the liner notes to the set.

Undaunted, Mitchell did not give up. Instead, she continued to sequence her songs, determined to prove to herself that what she was after was possible. After two years, she had created a four-act ballet based on the 53 songs that make up this inspiring collection. “I am a painter who writes songs. My songs are very visual. The words create scenes… What I have done here is to gather some of these scenes (like a documentary filmmaker) and by juxtaposition, edit them into a whole new work,” she explains.

LOVE HAS MANY FACES will make its vinyl debut on November 2 for $174.98. Limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies, the set is presented in a hard-bound deluxe folio package. It includes 53 songs on eight 180-gram LPs. Etchings of Mitchell’s artwork are featured on four individual album sides, each one signifying the end of an act in the ballet.

It truly is an artist-curated collection. Mitchell selected the material from 40 years of recording. She designed the package, which includes a book containing 53 lyrical poems, six paintings, and an autobiographical text illuminating her recording process. It is funny, mystical, and informative.

Mitchell organized the music into different thematic acts, which allowed her songs to interact with one another in a whole new way. The process, she says, was a lot like making a film. “I had forty years of footage to review. Then, suddenly, scenes began to hook up. Then series began to form. Instead of it being an emotional roller coaster ride as it was before—crammed into one disc—themes began to develop. Moods sustained. I was getting there…When this long editorial process (two years) finally came to rest, I had four ballets or a four-act ballet—a quartet. I also had a box set.”

Longtime listeners should find the music familiar but fresh. Newcomers have an adventure before them—a journey into highly-original, harmonically innovative, unusually rhythmic music. Some of the greatest musicians in the world are gathered here—supporting this emotionally charged exploration of love’s many faces.

LOS ANGELES - 80s SYMPHONIC combines the original classic tracks of 15 iconic 80s tracks from David Bowie, a-ha, Foreigner, Simple Minds, Simply Red, Tina Turner, Pretenders, Ultravox and more with brand new symphonic and string arrangements performed by the 50-piece London Studio Orchestra creating brand unique versions of these timeless tracks like you've never heard before.

The songs on 80s Symphonic have collectively sold over 20 million copies and have been number one hits in over 20 countries. The brand-new orchestrations for the album are the work of producer and arranger Andy Wright, who has worked with Simple Minds, Eurythmics, Simply Red, Jeff Beck, Massive Attack to name a few.

Andy Wright says, "Opening up the tape boxes of the biggest Warner's hits from the 80's was like all my Christmases rolled into one. Having then the opportunity of augmenting the original performances with a 50-piece Symphonic Orchestra has been a dream job. My first call was to my long-time collaborator Sam Swallow, Sam and I have tried to respectfully represent the musicality of the instrumental members of these great bands with Sam judiciously adding additional touches. It could be argued that these records cannot be improved, but...!"

Taking the original elements of the multi-tracks and, on 14 of the tracks, the original vocals the songs were arranged by Sam Swallow for a 48-piece orchestra and recorded over three days by the London Studio Orchestra in the legendary 'Beatles Studio' Studio 2 at the world famous Abbey Road Studios. The new version of David Bowie's 1983 classic "Let's Dance" was orchestrated and arranged for strings by the track's original producer Nile Rodgers at Abbey Road Studio 1 where he is the Chief Creative Advisor.

Nile Rodgers, who arranged and produced David Bowie's "Let's Dance" also notes "My work with David Bowie and specifically 'Let's Dance' is sacrosanct to me so when I was asked by David's family and Warner's to add orchestration to the original recording I approached it with extreme trepidation. In fact my only concern was to protect David's artistic vision and integrity. In the end I'm very grateful that we did this, as I believe anyone who loves the original will be excited by it. I'm certain David would approve from above."

The first single to be taken from 80s Symphonic is one of the most iconic hits of the Eighties "Take On Me" by a-ha. First released in 1984, the song was a worldwide smash in 1985 reaching #1 in over a dozen countries and as of 2017 has sold 7 million copies worldwide. On hearing the new version a-ha's Magne Furuholmen commented, "After the stripped down version of MTV unplugged, comes the full throttle orchestra-version...buckle up!"
