Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, for a 16 song, two-hour-plus tour de force of the band’s signature blues-infused rock ’n’ roll. In 1968, Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Page brought in Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Jimmy Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. The band was honored for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. In recent years, the group embarked upon an unprecedented reissue campaign of the band’s studio and live albums, along with their BBC sessions, which achieved Top 10 chart status around the globe whilst also garnering 5-star reviews and other critical accolades along the way.

May 14, 2020 - Judy Collins will re-release her historic rendition of “Amazing Grace” on Friday, May 29. Originally released 50 years ago, her version became a global sensation. It remained on the U.S. charts for 70 weeks, becoming an indelible song in America during the Vietnam War. For this new version of the recording, Collins will be joined by a choir of singers from across the globe using a new technology. Singers from around the world, both professional and aspiring, are encouraged to join the Global Virtual Choir to sing “Amazing Grace” along with Collins
.
All proceeds raised from this single will be going to the World Health Organization Solidarity Response Fund: https://covid19responsefund.org/

“Amazing Grace” has become a source of comfort during these unprecedented times. In the U.K., Judy's version has been played to Charing Cross Hospital and received a swell of emotional outpouring on social media and over 5 millions views (view here). The famed priest of Notting Hill, Pat Allerton AKA @theportablepriest (Instagram) has played her version of the song for his sermons on the streets (view here). Collins’ version of the song entered the charts five times in the UK alone between 1970 and 1972.

Says Collins:
“I recorded Amazing Grace with a group of friends at Saint Paul’s Chapel on the Columbia University campus in New York City. When my recording of Amazing Grace was released it became enormously popular all over the world.

It was written by John Newton in 1772, a man who evolved from a slave ship captain to a writer of powerful hymns, and changed his entire life, becoming a model for spiritual transformation.

That’s what we need today once again. Stay safe, help others and pray for the planet. I am sending this song out to all the doctors, nurses and patients. We will survive this with love and music and amazing grace.”

Judy Collins embraced “Amazing Grace” in 1964 after she witnessed marchers singing the hymn led by voting and women's rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, and saw its equal emotional impact on the marchers, witnesses, and law enforcement who opposed the civil rights demonstrators. She considered it as a talisman of sorts for peace and started to perform the song in her sets from that point on - it soon became one of her most requested songs when she played live.

Collins recorded “Amazing Grace” for her 1970 album Whales & Nightingales and connected the recording to the Vietnam War, to which she objected. When asked why, Collins explained, "I didn't know what else to do about the war in Vietnam. I had marched, I had voted, I had gone to jail on political actions and worked for the candidates I believed in. The war was still raging. There was nothing left to do, I thought... but sing “Amazing Grace.” A sentiment that will ring true with many today.

About Joy Division:

Joy Division recorded only two albums, Closer and Unknown Pleasures, before singer Ian Curtis tragically took his own life on May 18, 1980. But what the Manchester quartet lacked in longevity, they more than made up for in quality. The two albums were pioneering and helped shape the sound and mood of the alternative music that followed in the band's wake.

Ian Curtis (guitar/vocals), Bernard Sumner (keyboard), Peter Hook (bass), and Stephen Morris (drums) released their debut, Unknown Pleasures, in 1979. By the end of the year, the album's atmospheric sound had won over fans and critics with tracks like “She's Lost Control,” and “Day Of The Lords.”

Closer, the group's second album, arrived the following year on July 18, 1980 and its dark and melancholy tones continued to earn rave reviews for songs like “Isolation” and “Heart and Soul.”

The compilations Still and Substance fill in the missing pieces of the band's history with non-album singles “Transmission” and “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” unreleased studio tracks “Something Must Break” and “Ice Age,” and choice live recordings “Disorder” and the only performance of “Ceremony.”

LOS ANGELES - Legendary guitarist and two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Beck, one of the great collaborators in music history, has once-again found an unexpected co-conspirator in Johnny Depp. The musical soulmates have been working behind-the-scenes for the past few several years on new music and have released their first single as a duo today, a re-imagining of John Lennon’s classic track “Isolation,” which is available now on all streaming and digital download services from Atco/Rhino Records. Click here to listen now.

“Isolation” finds Beck in classic form on guitar with Depp on vocals, joined by long-time Beck collaborators Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Rhonda Smith on bass. The band first performed the track live at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival last September in Texas.

“Johnny and I have been working on music together for a while now and we recorded this track during our time in the studio last year. We weren’t expecting to release it so soon but given all the hard days and true ‘isolation’ that people are going through in these challenging times, we decided now might be the right time to let you all hear it,” says Beck. “You’ll be hearing more from Johnny and me in a little while but until then we hope you find some comfort and solidarity in our take on this Lennon classic.”

Johnny Depp adds, “Jeff Beck and I recorded this song Isolation last year, as our take on a beautiful John Lennon tune. Lennon’s poetry – ‘We’re afraid of everyone. Afraid of the Sun!’ – seemed to Jeff and me especially profound right now, this song about isolation, fear, and existential risks to our world. So we wanted to give it to you, and hope it helps you make sense of the moment or just helps you pass the time as we endure isolation together.”

Beck is universally acknowledged as one of the most talented and significant guitarists in the world and has played alongside some of the greatest artists of rock, blues, and jazz. Over the course of his distinguished 50+ music career, he has earned an incredible eight Grammy Awards, been ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” and been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice – once as a member of the Yardbirds and again as a solo artist. In the summer of 2016, the guitar virtuoso celebrated his five decades of music with an extraordinary concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl.

Depp has amassed quite the musical resume of his own, playing in the Hollywood Vampires supergroup with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry for the last five years. He’s also collaborated with a wide variety of musical artists over the last several decades from Oasis to Marilyn Manson to Stone Temple Pilots, just to name a few.

The Jeff Beck UK Tour has been rescheduled for April/May 2021. All tickets will be honored for the rescheduled concert dates.
