Rhino Handmade Unveils Unreleased 1970 Show At Ungano’s With Performances Of Nearly Every Song From Fun House, Plus Two Previously Unheard Tracks

Re-release Coming Of This Long Sold-Out, Seven-Disc Boxed Set

LOS ANGELES – To celebrate the release of Fun House in the summer of 1970, The Stooges brought the uncompromising ferocity of their second album to New York City and unleashed it within the cramped confines of Ungano’s, a hole-in-the-wall club on the Upper West Side. A reel-to-reel set up in the audience recorded the manic maelstrom as the band performed the entire album – except “L.A. Blues” – along with the until-now unreleased tracks “Have Some Fun” and “My Dream Is Dead.”

Rhino Handmade brings to light this legendary unreleased show in its entirety on a single disc accompanied by a poster, two glossy photos taken that night, and new liner notes composed by Lenny Kaye. Shipping November 16, HAVE SOME FUN: LIVE AT UNGANO’S will be available for pre-order on October 25 exclusively at www.rhino.com for $19.98.

The adrenalin-drenched set features singer Iggy Pop, guitarists Ron Asheton and Bill Cheatham, drummer Scott Asheton, bassist Zeke Zettner and saxophonist Steve Mackay. The band closes the show with a 10-minute-plus psychedelic, freak out jam featuring two unreleased tracks, “Have Some Fun” and “My Dream Is Dead.”

Musician and writer Lenny Kaye attended the show and transports you there in the album’s liner notes: “The sound comes in sheets of earsplitting noise, dense and bleating, as if a sheep is being led to slaughter. You can literally hear the ’60s gasping for breath, the totemic sacrifice of The Stooges.”

The same day HAVE SOME FUN will be released, Rhino Handmade will also rerelease 1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions. This seven-disc boxed set topped Rhino Handmade’s poll earlier this year to determine which of the label’s sold-out titles to put back in print. The reissued collection – which will not be individually numbered, preserving the collectability of the initial release – will be offered in its original packaging for $119.98.

This Holy Grail among Handmade titles, the original 1999 pressing for The Complete Fun House Sessions was limited to 3,000 copies, contains 142 tracks (109 music and 33 studio dialogue) whose nearly eight hours document every take from every Fun House session, in order, exactly as The Stooges recorded them. The set includes six CDs packaged in standard jewel cases, each with an eight-page folder. The seventh is packaged in a die-cut cardboard sleeve as a replica of the original Elektra single for “Down On The Street” b/w “1970 (I Feel Alright).”

Rhino’s Stooges celebration began a few weeks ago with the release of both of the band’s Elektra records on 180-gram vinyl. Cut from the original analog masters, The Stooges and Fun House are both available now for a suggested list price of $17.98 each.

LOS ANGELES – Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck hit the ground running in 2010, kicking the year off by winning his fifth Grammy Award. Just weeks later, the multiplatinum-selling artist scored the highest Billboard debut of his 45-year career with the release of Emotion & Commotion, his first studio album in seven years. Riding high on that red-hot streak, Beck performed an exclusive show at the Grammy Museum on April 22, thrilling an intimate crowd of 200 with his mind-bending guitar heroics.

For those who missed this one-of-a-kind performance, Atco Records relives this special evening with LIVE AND EXCLUSIVE FROM THE GRAMMY MUSEUM. Three versions will be available October 26. Audio and video will be available together exclusively from iTunes for $11.99. All other digital outlets will offer an audio-only version for $7.99. The album will be available on CD exclusively through Amazon’s Disc on Demand service for $7.99.

For the show, Beck took the stage with Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Narada Michael Walden on drums, bassist Rhonda Smith and keyboardist Jason Rebello. The quartet performed eight songs in all, tapping the new album for four, including covers of “Corpus Christi Carol,” Nessun Dorma,” and “Over The Rainbow” as well as the Beck-Rebello-penned “Hammerhead.”

The remainder of the set featured the soulful “Brush With The Blues” from 1999’s Who Else!; a stunning take on The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life” (a version of which earned Beck his 2010 Grammy); and a supercharged version of “How High The Moon,” a jazz standard popularized by Beck’s hero Les Paul. The show ended on a poignant note with Beck’s signature version of The Impressions’ classic “People Get Ready,” a song the guitarist recorded in 1985 with singer Rod Stewart.

Beck spent much of 2010 on the road, not only headlining his own acclaimed Emotion & Commotion tour in the U.S., but also uniting with Eric Clapton for a series of performances. Beck also appeared at the New Orleans Jazz Festival and Bonnaroo before finishing his U.S. tour this summer at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago.

DARK HORSE RECORDS ANNOUNCES

RAVI SHANKAR GEORGE HARRISON BOX SET RELEASE

Los Angeles – Dark Horse Records announced today the October 19th release of a limited edition deluxe box set entitled RAVI SHANKAR GEORGE HARRISON COLLABORATIONS. The release honors the sitar master’s 90th birthday.

Collaborations is a 3 CD and 1 DVD uniquely numbered limited edition box set. All compositions were composed by Ravi Shankar and produced by George Harrison over a period of 20 years.

The DVD is a rare concert performance of Ravi Shankar’s Music Festival From India recorded at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 1974. The albums include the acclaimed Chants Of India (1997), The Ravi Shankar Music Festival From India (studio version 1976) and Shankar Family & Friends (1974). The 56-page book includes a foreword by Philip Glass, a history of George and Ravi “in their own words” and rare photographs from both family archives.

The personal and musical friendship between Ravi Shankar and George Harrison has been known and well documented for decades now. It was a friendship that was powerful enough to make an impact on the large, musical life of the late nineteen sixties and it reverberates, as clearly, even today – from the Foreword by Philip Glass

In 1973 George Harrison signed Ravi Shankar to his Dark Horse Records label. The first joint recording project between George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, Shankar Family & Friends brought together renown Indian classical musicians such as Ustad Alla Rakha, Lakshmi Shankar, and Shivkumar Sharma alongside Western jazz and rock musicians including George, Ringo Starr, Tom Scott, Klaus Voormann, Jim Keltner and Billy Preston. One half of the album comprises instrumentals and songs, while the second half is a thematic ballet to a yet un-staged performance.

Ravi Shankar’s Music Festival From India (live from the Royal Albert Hall) was the first artistic event organized and sponsored by George Harrison’s Material World Charitable Foundation; bringing together a 17-piece Indian classical ensemble as well as a solo sitar performance by Ravi Shankar accompanied on tabla by Alla Rakha.

In 1997 George Harrison and Ravi Shankar again collaborated on an album. This time Ravi created music for ancient Sanskrit chants with the challenge of maintaining the authenticity of the ancient verses. Released in 1997, Chants Of India are timeless, Vedic verses chanted for the well being of man and mankind.

Collaborations is available on Dark Horse Records and distributed worldwide by Rhino Entertainment.
