LOS ANGELES – Multi-platinum recording artists Barenaked Ladies celebrate over two decades of hits this fall with a career-spanning retrospective that includes the group’s biggest singles and, for the first time on CD, their beloved theme to the television series Big Bang Theory.

Rhino proudly presents HITS FROM YESTERDAY AND THE DAY BEFORE, a 14-song collection due out September 27. The album will be available at all physical and digital retail outlets for suggested list prices of $11.98 (CD) and $9.99 (download).

Sequenced in chronological order, the album kicks off with “If I Had $1000000” from the group’s 1992 major-label debut, Gordon. Certified gold in the U.S., the album sold more than one million copies in the band’s native Canada. The following year, the band earned the Juno Award for Group of the Year for its work on Gordon, the first of eight Juno Awards Barenaked Ladies have won to date.

Other early favorites include “The Old Apartment” from 1996’s Born On A Pirate Ship and a live version of the concert staple “Brian Wilson,” which appeared on the concert album Rock Spectacle, the band’s first platinum-selling album in the U.S.

Much of HITS FROM YESTERDAY AND THE DAY BEFORE draws on the critical and commercial success the Barenaked Ladies enjoyed with Stunt (1998) and Maroon (2000). The first album, certified platinum four times, featured “Call And Answer,” “It’s All Been Done” and the Grammy-nominated international smash, “One Week.” Its follow-up, another platinum-selling release, included “Too Little Too Late,” “Falling For The First Time” and the Grammy-nominated single “Pinch Me.”

The band’s final album with Reprise Records, 2003’s Everything To Everyone is represented by the standout tracks “Another Postcard” and “Testing 1,2,3.” HITS FROM YESTERDAY AND THE DAY BEFORE also features tracks from the band’s recent independent releases, including “Easy” from 2006’s Barenaked Ladies Are Me, “You Run Away” from last year’s All In Good Time and the aforementioned “Big Bang Theory Theme,” from the hit television series, which recently went into syndication.

Barenaked Ladies hits the road for a brief run of California dates beginning September 16 at the Fred Kavli Theater in Thousand Oaks. The tour then takes the band to the Taste Of Newport Festival in Newport Beach before winding up the jaunt with dates in San Bernardino and Saratoga.

LOS ANGELES – Often imitated, rarely matched, The Smiths have grown to be one of Britain’s most influential groups. No band since has truly captured the incredible dynamic of Johnny Marr’s musical genius and Morrissey’s lyricism. Completed by Andy Rourke on bass and Mike Joyce on drums, the band is often cited as the key precursor to the Britpop movement.

For the first time ever, Rhino presents eight albums by The Smiths, each fully remastered by Marr, in one ultimate collection. COMPLETE includes all four of the band’s studio albums – The Smiths (1984), Meat Is Murder (1985), The Queen Is Dead (1986), Strangeways, Here We Come (1987) – and their sole live album, Rank (1988). They are complemented by three fan-favorite compilations: Hatful Of Hollow (1984), The World Won’t Listen (1987) and Louder Than Bombs (1987). Marr and engineer Frank Arkwright remastered all eight albums using the original tape sources.

COMPLETE will be available October 18 in CD and vinyl versions. The CD boxed set version features each album packaged in a mini-LP replica sleeve complete with the original artwork, including gatefolds and inner sleeves where relevant. The vinyl boxed set version consists of the original albums – five single LPs and three doubles – pressed on 180-gram audiophile vinyl and presented in all their 12” glory with beautifully restored artwork. Each will be available at physical retail outlets for suggested list prices of $78.98 (CD), $249.98 (LP) and $39.99 (Digital).

A Deluxe Collector’s Edition will be offered as well, exclusively at Rhino.com. Packaged in an individually numbered, trunk-style box, this version is limited to 4,000 pieces worldwide, with only 750 available in the U.S., only at Rhino.com. It contains all eight albums on CD and vinyl, accompanied by all 25 of The Smiths’ singles on 7” vinyl (including rare and deleted artwork). The set also includes: 12” art prints of all eight album sleeves; a poster featuring the artwork for the albums and singles; expanded liner notes by renowned author Lois Wilson; and “The Complete Picture” DVD of the band’s music videos. The Deluxe Collector’s Edition is available for pre-order now exclusively at Rhino.com for $499.98 and will be released on October 25.

Nearly 25 years after The Smiths’ final studio album, the band’s legacy of instantaneous, listenable and thought provoking music has never sounded better than it does on COMPLETE.

Seasons Greetings: A Jersey Boys Christmas

Artist Name
Jersey Boys
Release Date

LOS ANGELES – More than five years after its debut, the musical Jersey Boys continues to bring audiences around the world to their feet with the rags-to-riches tale of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. A global phenomenon, the record-breaking production has won awards for Best Musical on three continents, including the 2006 Tony® Award, while the platinum-selling Original Cast Recording album won a Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album in 2007. To celebrate the holidays, members of the award-winning Jersey Boys casts around the globe have come together to record a selection of Christmas classics in the style of The Four Seasons. This marks the first time that a Broadway show has released a holiday album.

On October 4, Rhino will release SEASON’S GREETINGS: A JERSEY BOYS CHRISTMAS at all physical and digital retail outlets for suggested list prices of $18.98 (CD) and $9.99 (digital).

The album was produced by Bob Gaudio, a founding member of The Four Seasons and the group’s principal songwriter. The musical director and arranger for the project was Ron Melrose, who also arranged music for the Jersey Boys musical. The eclectic album features performances by six stars from the various Jersey Boys casts – Joseph Leo Bwarie (National Tour), Travis Cloer (Las Vegas), Rick Faugno (Las Vegas), Bobby Fox (Australia), Ryan Molloy (London) and Jarrod Spector (Broadway) – plus John Lloyd Young, who won the 2006 Tony Award for his portrayal of Valli in the original Broadway production. The album was engineered by Pete Karam, who won a Grammy for his work on the Original Cast Recording.

Many of the melodies and choral harmonies that catapulted the quartet from the streets of Newark into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are woven into classic holiday songs on SEASON’S GREETINGS: A JERSEY BOYS CHRISTMAS. Listen for hints of “Come On Marianne” and “Oh What A Night” in the album opener “Joy To The World/O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” plus traces of “Bye Bye Baby” in “Winter Wonderland.”

For Jersey Boys’ first Christmas on Broadway in 2006, the cast recorded “O Holy Night” for a Christmas album to benefit Broadway charities. This album features a new version of the song with a fresh arrangement that includes lines from the spiritual, “Rise Up, Shepherd.” Other highlights from A JERSEY BOYS CHRISTMAS include a doo-wop version of “White Christmas” inspired by The Drifters and “Santa Medley,” which infuses signature Jersey Boys harmonies into a trio of holiday favorites. Also featured is a unique version of “Angels From The Realms Of Glory” filtered through ’80s synth-rock with a touch of Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony” thrown in for good measure.

Twisted Sister Live At The Marquee Club

Artist Name
Twisted Sister
Release Date

LOS ANGELES – Hell-bent for eyeliner and ready to rock the world, Twisted Sister stormed the stage at London’s famed Marquee Club in March of 1983 for two intense shows that cemented the band’s live legacy in the U.K. Recordings from those legendary nights reveal the Long Island quintet raw, hungry and catching fire just a few months before it achieved breakout success on radio and MTV.

Rhino Handmade taps into that power with LIVE AT THE MARQUEE CLUB, a concert album that collects rare and unreleased recordings from both nights on a single disc. The music comes in a glammed-up gatefold made from heavy-duty cardstock and die-cut into the shape of the iconic Twisted Sister logo. Due out September 20, LIVE AT THE MARQUEE CLUB is available now for pre-order exclusively at www.rhino.com for $19.98.

Mirroring the setlists from both shows, the collection’s 13 blistering performances feature singer Dee Snider, guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie “Fingers” Ojeda, bassist Mark “The Animal” Mendoza and drummer A.J. Pero. Until now, the only way to hear some of this historic two-night stand was through a series of 7” and 12” records released in 1983 exclusively in the U.K.

LIVE AT THE MARQUEE CLUB combines those hard-to-find cuts with five previously unreleased songs, including the title track from the band’s hard-rocking debut, Under the Blade, and covers of the Shangri-Las’ “Leader Of The Pack” and the Slade version of the R&B staple “Let The Good Times Roll.” The album also includes the first ever public performance of “You Can’t Stop Rock ’n’ Roll,” which would surface just three months later on the band’s second album. Bits of Snider’s legendary stage banter – also unreleased – can be heard interspersed between a few songs.

Feeding off the crowd’s energy, the band’s ferocity is unrelenting throughout LIVE AT THE MARQUEE CLUB as it demolishes nearly every song from its debut Under the Blade, including the show opener “What You Don’t Know (Sure Can Hurt You),” plus “Sin After Sin,” “Shoot ’em Down” and “Bad Boys (Of Rock ’n’ Roll).”

Veteran metal journalist Malcolm Dome recalls in the liner notes how the Marquee dates represented a turning point for the band. “There was a growing belief that the still young and untried Long Island group had something a little special about them, but the world at large had yet to be convinced. But what you have here is, perhaps, the moment when all that was overturned – when this quintet of focused and fired-up talents became one of the all-time greats.”

GRATEFUL DEAD INTRODUCES EUROPE ’72: VOL. 2

Essential Continuation Of The Dead’s Legendary Live Album With More Than
Two Hours Of Unreleased Performances From Historic European Tour

Due Out September 20 As Two-Disc Set And Digital Download

Europe ’72: Vol. 2

Artist Name
Grateful Dead
Release Date

LOS ANGELES – Nearly 40 years ago, Grateful Dead released Europe ’72, a triple live album documenting its historic trek across Europe that became not only one of the band’s best-selling releases, but also set the gold standard for live Dead. Now the group proves you can never get too much of a good thing when it revisits that legendary collection with EUROPE ’72: VOL. 2, an essential continuation of the original that includes more than two hours of unreleased performances from that storied tour.

Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux, who produced this 20-track compilation, says he only chose song titles that did not appear on Europe ’72 as a way to complement the original. “I think this album, coupled with Europe ’72, represents a complete overview of the tour in every way,” he says. “In fact, songs like ‘Beat It On Down The Line,’ ‘Next Time You See Me’ and ‘Sing Me Back Home’ were selected by the Grateful Dead for the first set, but were left off because there wasn’t enough room.”

On September 20, Rhino and Grateful Dead will release EUROPE ’72: VOL. 2 as a two CD set or digital download at all physical and digital retailers, including dead.net, for suggested list prices of $19.98 (CD), $14.99 (download).

In a nod to the original, VOL. 2 features new cover art by Stanley Mouse, the artist who helped create the iconic artwork from Europe ’72, which features the return of the legendary Ice Cream Kid. “Trouble comes in many flavors. Ice Cream Kid is in hot water. The jury is out. His only defense is love,” says Mouse of the Kid’s return.

Recorded at various locations during the band’s 22-show tour, the performances on VOL. 2 feature Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Ron (Pigpen) McKernan (sadly, his last tour), plus some of the earliest shows with pianist Keith Godchaux and singer Donna Godchaux. The collection captures the Dead in white-hot moments of improvisational revelry as the band explores a number of its most enduring songs, like “Bertha,” “Sugaree” and “Playing In the Band,” plus relatively obscure cuts like “Black-Throated Wind” and Pigpen’s “Chinatown Shuffle.”

As a special treat, the set includes an epic hour-plus jam that combines “Dark Star” and “The Other One.” Recorded at the Bickershaw Festival, it was the only show on this tour where the band broke out both of these beloved improvisational showpieces. VOL. 2 also includes “Good Lovin’” and “Dire Wolf” from the April 26 show at Jahrhundert Halle in Frankfurt, West Germany. While much of that concert was released on 1995’s Hundred Year Hall, these particular tracks were not included and have remained unreleased until now.

The high-quality sound heard on VOL. 2 stems from painstaking work done by Jeffrey Norman, who has been the primary mixer of the Dead’s archival multi-track material for the past 15 years. For this release, he mixed each show from the original 16-track recordings while two-time Grammy®-winning engineer David Glasser mastered the music to HDCD specs.

Not only does EUROPE ’72: VOL. 2 provide a welcome sequel to one of rock’s best-loved live albums, it also serves as an indispensible primer for EUROPE ’72: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS. Also due out in September, this massive 73-CD collection includes every note from the Dead’s European tour. While the limited edition version quickly sold out, music-only copies are still available for purchase at dead.net.
