Jethro Tull Celebrates 40 Years Of A

3-CD/3-DVD Anniversary Collection Expands The Group’s 1980 Album With Steven Wilson’s Newly Remixed Version Of The Original, Plus Unreleased Studio And Live Recordings, And A Remixed Version Of The Slipstream Video Collection

Available On April 16 From Rhino

After completing its acclaimed folk-rock trilogy in 1979, Jethro Tull returned a year later with A, an album that introduced a different sound and a new line-up. Originally intended as a solo record by the band’s founder Ian Anderson, the album’s single-letter title refers to the studio tapes, which were marked “A” for Anderson. When the album was finished, the group’s label Chrysalis insisted that it be credited to Jethro Tull, even though only two members from the band’s previous incarnation were featured: Anderson and guitarist Martin Barre. Despite that, the album and subsequent tour were well-received by fans around the world.

To mark the album’s anniversary, Jethro Tull ‘A’ (A LA MODE) (THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION) a new 3-CD/3-DVD set will be released on April 16, 2021. Pre-order here.

Highlights include:

  • Original album and associated recordings newly remixed by Steven Wilson
  • Original album and five associated recordings mixed in DTS and Dolby AC 3, 5.1 Surround, and stereo 96/24 LPCM
  • Full concert from the LA Sports Arena recorded in August 1980
  • Full LA Sports Arena concert mixed by Steven Wilson in DTS and Dolby AC 3, 5.1 Surround, and stereo 96/24 LPCM
  • Flat transfer of the original LP master at 96/24 LPCM stereo
  • DVD of Slipstream video remixed by Steven Wilson in DTS and Dolby AC 3, 5.1 Surround, and stereo 96/24 LPCM
  • Presented in a case-bound DVD book filled with an extensive history of the album, track-by-track annotations by Anderson, rare photographs and much more

Produced by Anderson and Robin Black, A was recorded in London during the summer of 1980 at Maison Rouge Mobile and Maison Rouge Studios. Along with Anderson and Barre, the band also featured Dave Pegg (bass, mandolin) and Mark Craney (drums), along with guest performer Eddie Jobson – a Roxy Music alumnus – on keyboard, synthesizer, and electric violin.

For this new collection, the album has been expanded with five unreleased tracks from the recording sessions, including a different take of the single “Working John, Working Joe,” an extended version of “Crossfire,” and the outtake “Coruisk.”

‘A’ (A LA MODE) (THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION) also includes a live recording from November 1980 of the band’s full concert at the LA Sports Arena. The performance mixed new A tracks (“Black Sunday,” “Batteries Not Included” and “Uniform”) with older hits, like “Aqualung,” “Heavy Horses” and “Songs From The Wood.” A few of these live tracks first appeared in 1981 on Slipstream, a video collection originally released on VHS and Laserdisc. The full Slipstream video, which made its DVD debut in 2004, is also included in this anniversary edition. Here, the content has been newly remixed by Steven Wilson.

LOS ANGELES – When Fleetwood Mac released its first live album in December 1980, it captured the legendary band’s most iconic lineup on stage demonstrating the full scope of their collective, creative powers. Recorded mostly during the world tour for Tusk, Fleetwood Mac Live delivered a double-album’s worth of exhilarating performances that included massive hits like “Dreams” and “Go Your Own Way,” “Rhiannon,” and “Don’t Stop.”

Rhino gives the band’s live debut a much-deserved encore with a new 3-CD/2-LP collection that features a remastered version of the original release on both 180-gram vinyl and CD, plus more than an hour of unreleased live music recorded between 1977 and 1982 on the third CD. The set also includes a bonus 7-inch single featuring previously unreleased demos for “Fireflies” and “One More Night.”

FLEETWOOD MAC LIVE: SUPER DELUXE EDITION will be available from Rhino on April 9 for $99.98. An unreleased live performance of “The Chain” recorded in Cleveland in 1980 is available today on all digital download and streaming services. Click HERE to listen now.

A special “Tour Edition” is also available for pre-order exclusively at the Rhino.com store for $109.98. Limited to 1,000 copies, the “Tour Edition” features the 3-CD/2-LP/7-inch collection plus replica ephemera from the era including a ticket, backstage pass, ad, button, sticker, and iron on patch.

This Super Deluxe Edition is presented in a 12 x 12 rigid slipcase and comes with a booklet filled with rare photos, a full itinerary for the Tusk Tour, plus a history of the live album by writer David Wild. He writes: “Then and now, Fleetwood Mac Live artfully marks a fascinating time period for a group that, in one form or another, has been on the global stage for more than half a century… It’s a wildly entertaining rock ’n’ roll circus in full swing under a big tent of the band’s own creation as they leave audiences dazzled in locales from Paris, France, to Passaic, New Jersey.”

The majority of the original album was recorded live between 1979 and 1980, save for a few exceptions: “Don’t Let Me Down Again,” was recorded in 1975 during the tour for Fleetwood Mac; Dreams” and “Don’t Stop” are from the band’s sound check in Paris; while “Fireflies,” “One More Night,” and a cover of the Beach Boys’ “Farmer’s Daughter” were all recorded in California during a special show for the band’s crew, family, and friends.

The 14 live tracks that debut on the Super Deluxe Edition span a wider range of time than those on the original release. They include seven songs from the Tusk tour (1979-80), four from the Rumours tour (1977) and three from the Mirage tour (1982). These stellar additions include live versions of “Tusk,” “Gold Dust Woman,” and “Songbird,” plus “The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown)” – a song written in 1970 by guitarist Peter Green, who founded Fleetwood Mac with Mick Fleetwood and Jeremy Spencer in 1967.

NEW ORDER ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF

EDUCATION ENTERTAINMENT RECREATION (LIVE AT ALEXANDRA PLACE)

To Be Released May 7

New Order announces the release of a special performance, their only UK show of 2018 (November 9) at London’s Alexandra Palace and the first live show released on Blu-ray from the band’s now established line-up of Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert, Phil Cunningham, and Tom Chapman.

Sonically and visually spectacular, spanning 2 hours 20 minutes, the show joyously mixed New Order classics, their latest acclaimed album (2015’s Music Complete), and covers of Joy Division’s finest.

Opening with “Singularity” from Music Complete, they eased back in time to 1993’s “Regret,” to “Love Vigilantes” from 1985’s Low-Life to “Ultraviolence” from 1983’s Power, Corruption and Lies.

Later, their power over the dance floor was proven by sublime performances in the manner of the celebrated extended 12-inch remixes they are synonymous with such as “True Faith,” “Blue Monday” and “Temptation,” before a three-song Joy Division mini set to end.

EDUCATION ENTERTAINMENT RECREATION will be released on May 7 on various formats including 2-CD audio, 2-CD audio plus the film on Blu-ray, 3-LPs, and a limited edition boxed set featuring all formats with a book and art prints.

A career-spanning celebration, the band were on relentlessly sparkling form, blending eras and genres and redefining themselves as perhaps the most vital British band of recent decades. Lauded by both fans and critics, it is a timely reminder of the connection we are all missing from live music and the nights we have to look forward to.

LOS ANGELES – Sir Rod Stewart loves to sing about love. It's a subject the legendary singer-songwriter has explored consistently throughout his career as one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, Stewart's fan-adored hits are just right for the moment.

"I've always been a hopeless romantic, and this list is perfect for that candlelit date night," says Stewart. "No need to be a DJ, just press play and focus on your lover."

Available for streaming on February 12, Rhino aims straight for the heart with CUPID, a new love-themed digital playlist from Stewart. The 16-track collection mixes some of his best-known love songs with five rarities that have never been available digitally until now. In celebration of the release, a new Valentine's Day-themed Instagram filter with audio from the song "Cupid" will make its debut, along with a new lyric video.

CUPID sets the mood with indelible songs like "Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright)" (#1US/#5 UK) and "The First Cut Is The Deepest" (#1UK/#21US), both from Stewart's multi-platinum album, A Night On The Town (1976). That prolific era is revisited for "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" (#3UK/#4US) from the follow-up, Footloose & Fancy Free (1977), the singer's second multi-platinum solo album. Meanwhile, the collection's title track, "Cupid," is a bonus track taken from the 2009 Expanded Edition of Stewart's 19th studio album, Human (2001).

The playlist marks the digital debut for several songs, including two b-sides: "Love In The Right Hands," which accompanied the unplugged version of "Reason To Believe" in 1993, and "One Night," which was the flip side to "Have I Told You Lately."

CUPID taps two of Stewart's best-loved film contributions with the Top 10 US hit, "Love Touch" (1986) from Legal Eagles and the #3 US hit "Faith Of The Heart" (1998) from the Patch Adams Soundtrack; the latter is making its digital debut. A number of songs on the playlist spotlight music the singer released during the 1990s, including the Top 40 hit "This" from A Spanner In The Works (1995), "For The First Time" from the platinum-certified If We Fall In Love Tonight (1996) and his tender cover of Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately" from the platinum-certified Vagabond Heart (1991).

One of the most talented singers in rock and pop music, Stewart has sold more than 250 million records worldwide during a stellar career that includes nine #1 albums and 26 Top 10 singles in the UK; plus 17 Top 10 albums and 16 Top 10 singles in the US.
