LOS ANGELES – Dead & Company jumpstarted the band’s “Fall Fun Run” mini tour last year in New York City with sold out shows at Madison Square Garden on Halloween and November 1. With the anniversaries for those shows quickly approaching, Dead & Company will release both concerts digitally on October 23. The group’s cover of Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves Of London” – the encore Halloween night – is available today on digital download and streaming services. Click here to listen now.

Like the other shows in Dead & Company’s ongoing digital concert series, both live performances will be available through all digital download and streaming services. In addition, the concerts will be offered in Apple Lossless and FLAC formats from Dead.net. Live audio for these recordings was mixed and remastered by Dead & Company’s Front of House Engineer, Derek Featherstone, and the band’s Recording Engineer, Ross Harris.

Halloween is one of the most eagerly anticipated dates on the Dead Head calendar and last year’s show was no exception. Despite the festive mood, however, there was a solemn undercurrent to the occasion as the band performed for the first time since the passing of longtime Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter.

In a deeply moving opening to the show, Grateful Dead band members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, and Bob Weir took to the stage by themselves while their newer bandmates John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge waited in the wings. The trio launched into “Ripple,” one of the most beloved songs Hunter wrote with Jerry Garcia, before the rest of the band joined them mid-song. That night, every song the band played – with the exception of the “Werewolves Of London” encore – was co-written by Hunter, a fitting and inspired tribute to the Grateful Dead’s beloved bard.

The following night, the power of Grateful Dead music to transcend generational boundaries was not only evident by the range of ages in the audience, but also on stage, where the band welcomed a surprise guest to the stage, Grammy® nominated, 25-year-old singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers. She immediately showed why she’s one of the most acclaimed new artists to have emerged in recent years with her beautiful harmony vocals (and one verse on lead) on another Garcia-Hunter immortal “Friend Of The Devil.” Later, she made a return appearance for the encore to help sing a cover of The Band’s classic “The Weight.”

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. Since its formation, the band has completed seven tours, playing to 2.8 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Having toured consistently since its 2015 debut, the band has grossed $307 million across 152 shows.

Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record.

LOS ANGELES – In advance of tomorrow’s release of the Morrison Hotel: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, The Doors have unveiled DOOR 70, a new platform that lets fans build their ultimate Doors playlist. At www.door70.com, fans can choose songs from any classic Doors album to assemble their own personal playlist, which can be listened to on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and YouTube Music and be shared across social media platforms. Fans can also unlock exclusive Doors content through building playlists via DOOR 70, such as video messages from guitarist Robby Krieger revealing untold stories from the band’s history.

The Doors also recently previewed an unheard studio outtake of “Roadhouse Blues” from Morrison Hotel: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. The track begins with Jim Morrison setting the scene of the song to the rest of the band. “We’re driving in a ’57 Chevy to an old roadhouse. Can you dig it? It’s about 1:30 and we’re not driving too fast, but we’re not driving too slow either. We’ve got a six-pack of beer in the car, and a few joints, and we’re just listening to the radio and driving to the roadhouse through nature. Dig it?” says Morrison before the song kicks in with the now iconic opening riff from Krieger.

The Doors returned to their roots and were reborn a rock ’n’ roll band on Morrison Hotel, the group’s fifth studio album and fifth consecutive gold-certified record. Completed in only a few weeks and released in February 1970, the hard-charging album took its name from the Skid Row hotel in downtown Los Angeles that’s featured in the iconic cover photo taken by Henry Diltz.

To commemorate the album’s 50-year anniversary, Rhino checks in again at the Morrison Hotel with a limited edition 2-CD/1-LP set that will be available this Friday, October 9 for $54.98. Morrison Hotel: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition includes the original album newly remastered by The Doors’ longtime engineer and mixer Bruce Botnick, plus a bonus disc of unreleased studio outtakes, and the original album on 180-gram virgin vinyl. The music will also be available from digital and streaming services the same day.

For this new collection, which was recently awarded 5 out of 5 stars from Mojo Magazine, the original album has been expanded with more than an hour of unreleased recordings taken from the sessions for Morrison Hotel. These 19 outtakes transport listeners into the studio with Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger, and Ray Manzarek for an unprecedented perspective on the making of the album.

Botnick says: “There are many takes, different arrangements, false starts, and insightful studio conversations between the band – who were in the studio – and producer Paul Rothchild – who was in the control room. It’s like being a fly on the wall.”

Several of these unheard recordings spotlight how “Queen Of The Highway” and “Roadhouse Blues” evolved across multiple sessions. It’s especially interesting to hear how the band played with different bass players on “Roadhouse Blues.” Early versions include Harvey Brooks, who played on the band’s previous album, The Soft Parade. Later takes feature guitar legend Lonnie Mack on bass along with The Lovin’ Spoonful’s John Sebastian on harmonica who, due to contractual restrictions at the time, had to be credited as “G. Puglese.”

Among the treasure trove of unreleased outtakes are also rough versions of Morrison Hotel tracks “Peace Frog” and “Blue Sunday,” as well as The Doors rarity “I Will Never Be Untrue.” The collection also captures some incredible session outtakes of the band jamming on cover versions of the Motown classic “Money (That’s What I Want)” and B.B. King’s “Rock Me.”

Veteran rock journalist David Fricke tells the tale behind this classic album in the set’s detailed liner notes. He writes: “As spring turned to summer in the last year of the 1960s, The Doors were a band in suspended animation. Singer Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore were off the road and in serious legal jeopardy after Morrison’s profane meltdown during a show at Miami’s Dinner Key Auditorium…The Doors were also exhausted and uncertain of their recording future after the protracted studio drama and uneven experiment of their fourth album, The Soft Parade…It was a season of chaos and anxiety. But The Doors were on the road to Morrison Hotel.”

A new line of official Morrison Hotel merchandise is also available in celebration of the album’s 50th anniversary. Fans can visit www.thedoors.com for exclusive hoodies, sweats, socks, a t-shirt, a jean jacket, and a key chain from the Morrison Hotel.

The title OUVREZ LE CHIEN (“open the dog” in French) originally appeared in the song “All The Madmen” taken from The Man Who Sold The World album which celebrates its 50th anniversary in November of this year. Bowie also used the phrase in the lyrics of his 1993 single “Buddha Of Suburbia,” once again spelling “ouvre” without a “z.” The “z” was restored when the phrase and its English translation were prominently featured in the stage set of the 1995 Outside tour.

OUVREZ LE CHIEN was produced by David Bowie and recorded by Steve Guest. The musicians are Bowie – vocals and saxophone, Carlos Alomar – rhythm guitar, Reeves Gabrels – lead guitar and vocals, Gail Ann Dorsey – bass and vocals, Zachary Alford – drums, Peter Schwartz - musical director, keyboards and synthesisers, George Simms – vocals, Mike Garson – piano and keyboards.

The cover image of OUVREZ LE CHIEN was taken by Iman during the ’95 tour.

London Parlophone Records is proud to announce details for the digital single release of DAVID BOWIE's "THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD (2020 MIX)" digital single release.

This November sees the 50th Anniversary of the North American release of the original The Man Who Sold The World album. The rest of the world would have to wait until April 1971 to witness Bowie’s landmark entry into the 1970s. Originally titled Metrobolist, the album's name was changed at the last minute -- the original stereo master tapes were in fact labelled Metrobolist, with the title The Man Who Sold The World being added subsequently.

The 2020 re-release of the album under its Metrobolist moniker, remixed by original producer Tony Visconti, it is preceded by the digital single release of "The Man Who Sold The World (2020 mix)." The track was not released as a single by Bowie at the time, only appearing as the B-side to Life On Mars? on RCA Records in June '73. It wasn't until the 1974 version by Scottish singer Lulu (produced by Bowie and Mick Ronson) that the song gained mainstream attention. In subsequent years, Bowie’s 1979 performance of the song on Saturday Night Live and Nirvana’s cover on the classic MTV Unplugged album, among others, would establish and reaffirm its status as one of his most beloved songs.

Bowie performed the track live later in his career, including an electronic arrangement during 1995's Outside Tour (as featured on the live album Ouvrez Le Chien) and in an acoustic arrangement in 1996 for the recent Record Store Day release ChangesNowBowie.

The Metrobolist 50th anniversary artwork has been created by Mike Weller who was behind the originally intended album artwork. The gatefold sleeve also features many images from the infamous Keith MacMillan Mr Fish ‘dress’ shoot at Haddon Hall which would cause controversy when one of the shots was used on the cover of The Man Who Sold The World album in the rest of the world in spring of 1971.

For the 50th anniversary, the story of the gatefold sleeve can be told in full. As Mike Weller explains, “There is a story concealed in the carpet-scattered playing cards, David has thrown a plain 52 card deck in the air as though “casting the runes” but in a significant break from 60s Tarot divinations such as I Ching he casts runes using a four-suit pack and switches man-dress, along with the Court Card of the Future from right hand to left, signifying a new decade and new cultural era.” This theme is continued via one of the unused ‘dress’ photos which makes up the packshot for "The Man Who Sold The World" (2020 mix) single.

As with the Space Oddity 50th anniversary vinyl, as well as a 180g black vinyl edition, it will come in 2020 limited edition handwritten numbered copies on gold vinyl (# 1971 - 2020) and on white vinyl (# 1 - 1970) all randomly distributed.

Led Zeppelin III

Celebrates 50th Anniversary Today

Limited Edition Reissue Of “Immigrant Song” Japanese 7” Single

Available For Pre-Order This Thursday

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones released Led Zeppelin III 50 years ago today in the U.S., on October 5, 1970, with the U.K. and other countries following a few weeks later. The band’s third album in less than two years, it would top the charts in several countries – including the U.S. and the U.K. – on its way to selling more than 13 million copies worldwide. Beyond its overwhelming commercial success, the album also represented a turning point musically for Led Zeppelin as the group expanded its hard-hitting sound to embrace a wider range of styles on acoustic-based songs like “That’s The Way,” “Tangerine,” and “Bron-Y-Aur-Stomp.”

In celebration of the record’s 50th anniversary, the band will reissue the Japanese version of the album’s only single – “Immigrant Song” b/w the non-album track “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do” – on 7” vinyl. Limited to 19,700 copies, it comes in a sleeve that replicates the original artwork. The single will be released on January 15, 2021 and can be pre-ordered at www.ledzeppelin.com starting this Thursday at 10AM EST.

“Immigrant Song” was a Top 20 hit in the U.S. and has gone on to become one of the band’s most popular and enduring songs, currently ranking as their second most-streamed track worldwide. It’s also had an enduring impact on pop culture thanks to several memorable appearances in blockbuster motion pictures such as School Of Rock and, most recently, in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok.

“Immigrant Song” and its lyrical references to Norse mythology were inspired by the band’s concert in Reykjavik, Iceland on June 22, 1970. Six days later, the song made its live debut in England at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music. That fall, it would appear as the lead-off track on Led Zeppelin III.

Following the whirlwind success of the band’s first two albums and near constant touring, there was an initial rehearsal with Plant and Bonham where Page presented “Immigrant Song,” “Friends,” and what became “Out On The Tiles.” Page and Plant then took to the now famous Bron-Yr-Aur cottage in Wales in 1970 to have a musical sabbatical. The remote 18th-century cottage – which lacked electricity and running water - became home to “That’s The Way.”

Page and Plant later convened with Bonham and Jones for rehearsals before recording began in earnest that May with engineer Andy Johns. The band recorded the album in several locations, including London’s Olympic Studios and Island Studios. Following the recording sessions, Page, who produced the album, took the mixed master tapes to Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, to make the cut for vinyl. Fueled by classic tracks such as “Since I’ve Been Loving You,, “Out On The Tiles,” and “Celebration Day,” Led Zeppelin III has been certified 6x platinum in the U.S. alone while also achieving multi-platinum status in many other countries.

Beyond the music, the album is noteworthy for another reason; it’s innovative artwork. When it was originally released on vinyl, Led Zeppelin III came packaged in a gatefold sleeve, conceived by Page and designed by multi-media artist Zacron (aka Richard Drew), whom Page had met in the early 1960s when Drew was attending Kingston College of Art. For his design, Zacron created a surreal collection of images (planes, birds and butterflies) surrounding several cutout holes. Behind the cover, he placed a rotating disc (volvelle or wheel chart) that featured more images, including photos of all four band members. When the disc was turned by hand, different images would appear in the openings to create an interactive visual experience.
