SEPULTURA: THE ROADRUNNER ALBUMS

Six-Disc Collection Highlights The Influential Music The Band Recorded
Between 1985 And 1996

Available From Rhino On January 27

LOS ANGELES - Sepultura recorded a series of albums for Roadrunner Records that had a major influence on heavy metal music throughout the Eighties and Nineties. Founded in Brazil by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, the band was hailed by fans and critics alike for its ever-evolving sound on a string of classic albums that have sold millions worldwide.

THE ROADRUNNER ALBUMS 1985-1996 will be released on January 27 as a six-CD set ($39.98). The collection will also be released on vinyl as a six-LP set with each album pressed in a different color ($99.98).

The collection combines Sepultura's debut EP Bestial Devastation with the group's first six studio albums: Morbid Visions (1986), Schizophrenia (1987), Beneath The Remains (1989), Arise (1991), Chaos A.D. (1993), and Roots (1996).

THE ROADRUNNER ALBUMS 1985-1996 retraces the band's evolution over 11 years with a potent mix of aggression and groove. It begins with the 1985 EP Bestial Devastation. Those five songs would later be reissued as bonus tracks on Sepultura's full-length debut, Morbid Visions. That album featured the hit "Troops of Doom," a song that would become a mainstay in the band's live shows for years to come.

Guitarist Andreas Kisser joined bassist Paulo Jr. and the Cavalera brothers on 1987's Schizophrenia, an album that added thrash metal to the band's black metal roots. Those sounds crystallized on the next album, Beneath the Remains, which is regarded today as a thrash metal classic. The string of strong albums continued in 1991 with Arise. It includes the fan favorite "Dead Embryonic Cells" and has been certified platinum based on worldwide sales.

On the final two albums included in THE ROADRUNNER ALBUMS 1985-1996, Sepultura emphasized rhythmic exploration. With 1993's Chaos A.D., the group embraced groove metal, especially on the first single, "Refuse/Resist." On Roots, Sepultura was deeply influenced by Brazilian rhythms, incorporating them into signature tracks like "Itsári" and "Ratamahatta." Since its release in 1996, the album has sold more than two million copies worldwide.

CHICAGO II: STEVEN WILSON REMIX

The Iconic Group's Timeless Classic Has Been Remastered
To Reveal Unprecedented Clarity And Definition

Available On CD From Rhino On January 27

LOS ANGELES - More than 40 years after its debut, Chicago II still sounds like nothing else. Released in 1970, Chicago's second album brims with confidence and inspiration as it draws on everything from orchestral music to heavy rock. Although it never affected the record's popularity - it peaked at #4 on the album chart and spawned a trio of Top Ten hits - many fans have longed for a more-nuanced mix. That wish is about to come true with a new stereo version created by British musician and producer Steven Wilson.

CHICAGO II: STEVEN WILSON REMIX will be available January 27 on CD for $14.98. The newly remixed album will also be released as a double-LP set later next year for $31.98.

Chicago II has been remixed before, but never like this. For the first time, a stereo remix from the 16-track multi-track tapes made it possible for Steven Wilson to bring out elements that were muffled or submerged in the mix. The result is a new stereo version of Chicago II that boasts clearness, punch and definition that it didn't have before.

Wilson explains: "Working with high-resolution 96K/24 bit digitally transferred files, I had every element from the recording sessions isolated, which meant I was able to rebuild the mix from the drums upwards, recreating as closely as I could the equalization, stereo placement, reverbs, other effects, and volume changes of each individual instrument or vocal - but at the same time looking to gain definition and clarity in the overall sound."

In 1969, Chicago recorded the band's follow-up to their debut album, Chicago Transit Authority (voted 2014 into the Grammy Hall of Fame). When it arrived in January 1970, Chicago II became an instant sensation. Principal composers, James Pankow and Robert Lamm, emerged further as the band's source of Top Ten hits for the group, including "Make Me Smile" and "Colour My World," as well as "25 or 6 to 4," which peaked at #4 and has become one of the band's signature songs. Terry Kath, Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider, also Danny Seraphine and Peter Cetera ... somehow found time (while touring the world behind  the success of "CTA") to prepare another double LP album.

"So rich was their creative seam at the time that, like their debut, and the album that followed this one, it was a two record set," says Wilson.  "In fact, with unprecedented boldness the run of double albums was only broken by their fourth which was a quadruple (live) set!  I consider all of these albums to be classics, but perhaps Chicago II is the pre-eminent masterpiece. It's got everything: moments of tender beauty to power riffs and scorched-earth jazz-rock, catchy melodies and gorgeous vocal harmonies.  When I first heard it as a teenager I was captivated by the mixture of jazz, blues, pop, classical, progressive and heavy rock styles, including both improvisational elements and intricate arrangements, and by songs written and sung by several different members, all with their own unique personality. How could that possibly hang together?!  But it does, and brilliantly so."

The album, which was certified platinum by the RIAA, soon after its release, also highlighted some of the band's most ambitious work, such as the 13-minute song cycle "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon," composed by James Pankow, as well as "Memories Of Love," a Terry Kath song, arranged for orchestra by Peter Matz. Chicago's lasting musical impact was recognized in April of 2016, with their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Will Bring Four Limited Edition 7-inch Singles Each Year,

LOS ANGELES - To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band's debut album, the Grateful Dead will launch a special album reissue series in January that will include two-disc deluxe editions and limited edition vinyl picture disc versions of all the group's studio and live albums. Each will be timed for release around the individual album's 50th anniversary. These two-disc deluxe editions will include the original album with newly remastered sound, plus a bonus disc of unreleased recordings. The same remastered audio from the original album will also be released as a 12-inch picture disc produced in a limited edition of 10,000 copies.

The celebration begins with the January 20 release of THE GRATEFUL DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION. The set will be available for $19.98 and includes the original album - newly remastered from the original tapes by David Glasser, and restored by Plangent Processes - along with a bonus disc that features the complete unreleased concert from July 29, 1966 and select cuts from July 30, 1966 at the P.N.E. Garden Auditorium in British Columbia, mastered by Jeffrey Norman. On the same day, the newly remastered version of The Grateful Dead will also be available as a 12-inch picture disc, limited to 10,000 copies worldwide, for $21.98.

The band recorded and mixed THE GRATEFUL DEAD in five days before releasing it in March 1967. It captures the group's early sound with a mix of electrified jug band stomps ("Sitting On Top of the World"), Chicago blues ("Good Morning Little School Girl"), crazed modal improv ("Viola Lee Blues"), and Dylan-y put-downs ("Cream Puff War").

In the deluxe edition's liner notes, Jesse Jarnow writes: "The Grateful Dead is the Grateful Dead as they existed, a slice of their fast-changing live repertoire circa 1967. Nothing would ever be the same, but nothing had ever been the same with the Dead from the time of their second show onward."

The deluxe edition's bonus disc unearths unreleased recordings from the band's performances at the Vancouver Trips Festival in 1966. Only a few recordings from the Dead's first two years exist, but each one reveals corners of the band's repertoire not captured anywhere else. That's especially true here, with three songs making their last appearance on any surviving Dead recording: "Standing On The Corner," "You Don't Have To Ask Me," and "Cardboard Cowboy."

The band has also opened subscriptions to the GRATEFUL DEAD 7-INCH SINGLES COLLECTION. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first single, the Grateful Dead will launch a special reissue series in 2017 that will bring pressings of the first four of the band's 27 singles on 7-inch colored vinyl, each limited to 10,000 copies and available exclusively at dead.net. The remaining 23 singles will be released over the next few years. Subscriptions will be $44.98, which includes the first four installments in the series, released quarterly across the year.

The first release, arriving March 1, is the band's debut: "Stealin'" b/w "Don't Ease Me In." Scorpio Records released the Grateful Dead's first single during the summer of 1966. When Gene Estribou produced "Stealin'" and its B-side, "Don't Ease Me In" in his San Francisco studio, the songs were already staples of the band's early live shows. When it was released, fewer than 250 copies of the single ever saw the light of day. This limited edition reissue is the single's first pressing in 50 years and features remastered audio, edited by David Glasser to reflect the original single edits.

In other Grateful Dead news, this year's installment of the Grateful Dead Almanac launched today at dead.net. This annual newsletter, dating back to the band's touring days, keeps fans updated on all things happening in the world of the Grateful Dead. Also launching with the Almanac are subscriptions to Dave's Picks 2017 series, which features four unreleased live shows released as limited editions each quarter throughout the year. The beloved series, now entering its sixth year, kicks off its 2017 offerings on February 1 with the release of Dave's Picks Vol. 21, which includes a live show from the legendary Boston Garden from April 2, 1973.

"We're laser-focused on continuing the release of exceptional Grateful Dead concerts throughout 2017, with some incredible music being considered for release as the year progresses," says archivist and producer David Lemieux. "Volumes 21-24 in 2017 promise to rival the very best releases of the first 20 installments of the series."

Underworld

Limited Edition Vinyl And CD Versions Available From Rhino Today

LOS ANGELES - In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the iconic drama Trainspotting,  Parlophone is proudly reissuing the legendary original soundtrack today, November 11.  An essential part of any music lover's collection, the album features tracks from Iggy Pop, New Order, Blur and Underworld.

TRAINSPOTTING: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE is a 14-song collection available on limited edition 180-gram orange vinyl. The album is available on double-LP for the first time in North America for list price of $31.98. The soundtrack will also be available on CD for a list price of $18.98.

Based on the Irvine Welsh novel of the same name, the film version of Trainspotting, directed by Danny Boyle, became a cult sensation. Centered around the heroin subculture of Edinburgh in the 1980s, the film is occupied with surrealism, black comedy, and most importantly - a killer soundtrack.

TRAINSPOTTING: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE replicates the original artwork, including  special silver spot finish on the jacket. The album includes signature tracks "Lust For Life," a smash for Iggy Pop in 1977, as well as Underworld's quintessential club track "Born Slippy," which was available exclusively via the soundtrack when it was originally released. In addition, fans will find tracks from Pulp, Primal Scream, Lou Reed, and more.

The reissue also comes on the heels of the announcement of T2: Trainspotting, which hits theaters in early 2017 and stars many of the original cast members of Trainspotting. Let's join Renton, Begbie, Sickboy, to re-experience this timeless classic, twenty years later.
