GIMME DANGER: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE

The Soundtrack To Jim Jarmusch's Acclaimed Documentary About
The Stooges Mixes Album Tracks With Studio Outtakes And More

Available Digitally From Rhino On January 13

LOS ANGELES - Celebrated filmmaker Jim Jarmusch says Gimme Danger - his critically acclaimed documentary about The Stooges - is more an "essay" than a document. "It's our love letter to possibly the greatest band in rock 'n' roll history..."

Named an Official Selection to the New York, Toronto and Cannes film festivals, Gimme Danger presents the band's story and explores its influences and impact, complete with some never-before-seen footage and photographs. After a run in select theaters, the film will be available via on-demand outlets beginning January 31.

Rhino offers the perfect complement to the film with GIMME DANGER: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE. This new compilation will be available digitally on January 13 for $9.99. The same music will arrive on CD February 24 for $14.98. The LP version comes out on April 7 for $21.98. Slightly truncated, the LP version features Stooges songs and has a selection of tracks previously only available on CD and digital formats, including the vinyl debut of the outtake "Lost In The Future."

The digital and CD versions include 14 songs that focus on the group's first three studio albums - The Stooges, Fun House, and  Iggy and The Stooges' Raw Power - and feature band members Iggy Pop, Ron and Scott Asheton, Dave Alexander, and James Williamson.

Both Jarmusch and Pop helped select songs for the soundtrack, which mixes indelible studio recordings ("I Wanna Be Your Dog," "1969" and "Loose") with rare studio outtakes ("I Got A Right," "I'm Sick Of You," and "Asthma Attack").

Fellow Detroit natives MC5 make an appearance on the collection as well with "Ramblin' Rose" from the group's 1969 debut, Kick Out The Jams. The oldest songs on the collection pre-date The Stooges and spotlight Pop with his previous bands, the Iguanas ("Again And Again") and Prime Movers Blues Band ("I'm A Man").

Emerging from Ann Arbor Michigan amidst a countercultural revolution, The Stooges' powerful and aggressive style of rock-n-roll blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. Jarmusch says: "No other band in rock 'n' roll history has rivaled The Stooges' combination of heavy primal throb, spiked psychedelia, blues-a-billy grind...There is no precedent for The Stooges, while those inspired by them are now legion."

January 4 To Be Proclaimed “Day Of The Doors” In Los Angeles In Special Ceremony In Venice

LOS ANGELES – 50 years ago today in 1967, The Doors broke through to the other side for the first time with its eponymous debut on Elektra Records. The Doors would go on to sell millions of copies and made stars of John Densmore, Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek, and Jim Morrison. Today, the album is widely considered to be one of the all-time-classic rock and roll debuts.

To celebrate this landmark recording’s 50th anniversary, the band will release THE DOORS: 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION. This 3CD/LP set will be available on March 31 for a list price of $64.98. In addition, the music will also be available digitally.

To coincide with this, today (January 4) will be proclaimed “Day Of The Doors” in the city of Los Angeles. The proclamation will be made this afternoon by Los Angeles Councilmember Mike Bonin during a public event at the intersection of Pacific and Windward Avenues, the location of the iconic “Venice” sign. Founding Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger will be on hand at the event as will family members of the late Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison.

Packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book, THE DOORS: 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION includes a remastered version of the album’s original stereo mix, available on CD for the first time in a decade and remastered for the first time in nearly 30 years. The album’s original mono mix was also remastered for this set and is making its CD debut here. An LP-version of the mono mix is also included. The third disc features a live performance from The Matrix in San Francisco recorded just weeks after The Doors was released. Music journalist David Fricke provides detailed liner notes for the set, which includes a selection of rare and previously unseen photographs.

THE DOORS: 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION offers a rare opportunity to hear the band on the verge of superstardom with live performances recorded during a March 7, 1967 show at the Matrix in San Francisco. The Matrix recordings heard on this deluxe edition were sourced from the recently discovered, original tapes, previously thought to be lost. The Matrix recordings originally released in 2008 were from a third-generation source, so the sound quality of the versions debuting here is second to none.

Packed with electrifying performances, the disc contains live versions of eight tracks on The Doors, including “Twentieth Century Fox,” “The Crystal Ship” and “Back Door Man.”

DAVID BOWIE SOUND AND VISION
LIMITED EDITION 40TH ANNIVERSARY 7" PICTURE DISC

SET FOR RELEASE FEBRUARY 10, 2017

LOS ANGELES - February 10, 2017 sees the release of the latest special limited David Bowie 7" picture disc, the 40th anniversary edition of SOUND AND VISION.

Originally released in the UK on February 11th, 1977, SOUND AND VISION was taken from the groundbreaking album Low, the first of the so-called "Berlin Trilogy" of albums. The song gave its name to Bowie's anthology boxed set and it's accompanying greatest hits tour in 1990 and is the only track actually performed by him in his stage play Lazurus.

The A-side features a brand new remaster of the track and the flip side sees the first physical release of the 2013 remix of the song. The stripped back remix by Sonjay Prabhakar was originally done for a Sony Experia advertisement and utilizes the original lead vocals and Mary Hopkin's backing vocal with a new piano part.

MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE: 20th CENTURY WOMEN

Eclectic Soundtrack For Mike Mills' Acclaimed Film Mixes Songs By Talking Heads
And David Bowie With Music From Benny Goodman And Louis Armstrong

Available Digitally From Rhino On December 16

LOS ANGELES - With 20th Century Women, acclaimed filmmaker Mike Mills (Academy Award®-winning Beginners and music videos for Moby, Yoko Ono and Air), delivers a funny, heart-stirring celebration of the complexities of women, family, time, and the connections we search for our whole lives. The film was recently nominated for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for this year's Golden Globes®. 20th Century Women hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Christmas Day, and nationwide January 20.

MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE: 20th CENTURY WOMEN will be released digitally on December 16 for $9.99. A CD version will come out next year on January 13 for $18.98, followed by an LP version on February 10 for $21.98. A trailer for the film can be viewed here.

Set in Santa Barbara, the film follows Dorothea Fields (Annette Bening, 2017 Golden Globe® Nominee - Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy), a determined single mother in her mid-50s who is raising her adolescent son, Jamie (newcomer Lucas Jade Zumann, in a breakout performance) in 1979, a moment brimming with cultural change and rebellion. Dorothea enlists the help of two younger women in Jamie's upbringing - via Abbie (Greta Gerwig), a free-spirited punk artist living as a boarder in the Fields' home, and Julie (Elle Fanning), a savvy and provocative teenage neighbor.

The soundtrack reflects the film's time period with music from artists who helped define the era. Talking Heads feature prominently on the soundtrack, which includes two of the band's songs: "Don't Worry About The Government" from Talking Heads: 77, the group's debut on Sire Records, and "Big Country," the closing track from the band's 1978 follow-up, More Songs About Buildings and Food.

"Music is part of the culture of each character. It's part of their history, and it's also, really, a part of their storytelling, says Mills in a recent Entertainment Weekly article . He also speaks about the important roll scenes from classic Hollywood films play in the movie, especially Michael Curtiz's Casablanca staring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. The final scene of 20th Century Women plays homage to the 1942 black-and-white romance.

"Casablanca and Bogart are so important to Dorothea's character," Mills said. "To me, it defines the film in a way. [As characters, they're like] 'As Time Goes By' meets the Buzzcocks... we were editing the movie and we said 'Dorothea and Jamie were kind of like Rick and Ilsa.' It's this love story, really, between two people, that isn't really going to work out in the traditional sense of a love story."

The late-Seventies musical mix highlights American groups like Suicide ("Cheree"), Devo ("Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy"), and Germs ("Media Blitz"), as well as English artists like The Raincoats ("Fairytale In The Supermarket"), Siouxsie and the Banshees ("Love In A Void"), and David Bowie ("DJ.")

The track list for MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE: 20th CENTURY WOMEN is also peppered with music from the Thirties and Forties, with songs by Benny Goodman and His Orchestra ("In A Sentimental Mood"), Sandy Williams ("After Hours On Dream Street"), and Rudy Vallee and His Connecticut Yankees ("As Time Goes By").
