"Ziggy Stardust (Demo)" Available Now To Stream and Download

LOS ANGELES - Parlophone Records proudly announces David Bowie’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Star!, a 5CD/Blu-Ray Audio set that explores Bowie’s journey from February 1971 through the creation of the Ziggy Stardust character, the recording of the iconic The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars album, and captures the international mania that surrounded the Ziggy phenomenon in the form of UK radio sessions and TV performances, as well as live tracks from Ziggy and the Spiders’ October 1, 1972 show at the Boston Music Hall.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Star!, containing 29 unreleased tracks, covers early songwriting demos, recordings from Bowie’s band, The Arnold Corns, rehearsals at Bowie’s then-home, Haddon Hall, BBC sessions, singles, live performances, plus outtakes and alternative versions from the original album recording sessions, which have been newly mixed by original album producer, Ken Scott.

Unreleased highlights include an alternative version of “Lady Stardust,” an unheard version of the deep-cut classic “Shadow Man,” and an up-tempo take of The Who’s “I Can’t Explain,” which he would later slow down and cover for the Pin-Ups album.

The audio-only Blu-Ray disc features the definitive 2012 remaster of the original Ziggy Stardust album in 96kHz/24bit PCM stereo, plus the album and additional mixes from 2003 in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 as well as the singles, outtakes and alternative versions in 96kHz/24-bit PCM stereo.

The Blu-Ray also includes a version of the Ziggy Stardust album called Waiting In The Sky (Before The Starman Came To Earth) taken from Trident Studio tapes dated December 15, 1971, which features an alternative running order and four songs that didn’t make the final album. This will also be available as a limited LP on April 20 for Record Store Day. In addition, there is a 1-LP version of Rock ‘n’ Roll Star! compiling the alternative takes and mixes.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Star! also contains two books. The first is an extensive 112-page book with detailed liner notes, memorabilia, contemporary reviews and articles, rare photographs from Barrie Wentzel, Michael Putland, Mick Rock, Sukita and Alec Byrne, as well as brand-new notes and interviews with Ken Scott, Mark Carr Pritchett and Bowie’s plugger from the time, Anya Wilson. Accompanying the main book is a 36-page compiled reproduction of Bowie’s personal Ziggy Stardust-era notebooks.

The first track from Rock ‘n’ Roll Star! is “Ziggy Stardust (demo),” in which Bowie recorded vocals and acoustic guitar in March 1971 at Haddon Hall in Beckenham.

Turn It On Again: The Hits

The album’s vinyl debut 2-LP, special edition on “Invisible Touch” clear vinyl and CD versions on May 3

LOS ANGELES- To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its original release in October 1999, Genesis’ multi-platinum-selling Turn It On Again: The Hits is being made available on vinyl for the first time.

Releasing on May 3, it will come as a 2-LP set on black vinyl, a special edition 2-LP set in “Invisible Touch” clear vinyl as well as on CD. The album contains 18 tracks that span the band's whole career. From their earliest period with tracks such as “I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)” and a version of “The Carpet Crawlers” on to their early 80’s global smash hits such as “Turn It On Again” and “Mama” and their massive hits later that decade and into the early 90s with “Invisible Touch” and “I Can't Dance.”

The album's artwork remains loyal to the original, with the lettering of GENESIS pulled from various album covers of the band and the infamous ‘I Can’t Dance’ silhouette of Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford taken from the song's video.

For more than a half-century, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Genesis have defied the odds, rising to become one of the world’s best-selling bands amid personnel shake-ups, shifting styles, and changing times. Formed in 1967 by four classmates in Surrey, England (vocalist Peter Gabriel, keyboardist Tony Banks, lead guitarist Anthony Phillips, and bassist/rhythm guitarist Mike Rutherford), Genesis established themselves as one of prog-rock’s most innovative acts. The band developed their sound with 1970’s Trespass and solidified their line-up with drummer/backing vocalist Phil Collins and guitarist Steve Hackett, going on to release critically acclaimed albums like Selling England by the Pound (1973), and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974). With the departure of Gabriel in 1975, drummer Phil Collins took over as frontman, leading the group into an era of unprecedented success, beginning with 1976’s A Trick of the Tail and Wind & the Wuthering. By the turn of the decade, Genesis had transformed into a tightly-knit trio, embracing a pop aesthetic with the albums …And Then There Were Three…(1978) and Duke (1980), as well as in hits like “Follow You Follow Me” and “Misunderstanding.”

The ‘80s found each band member embarking on successful solo careers – a fact that only solidified their collective songwriting prowess. With their expansive, synth-based hooks and reverb-heavy drums, Genesis set the tone for the decade, dominating global charts with Abacab (1981), Genesis (1983), and Invisible Touch (1986) and conquering the Billboard charts with a string of hits, including “That’s All,” “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight,” “Land of Confusion” and the US No.1, “Invisible Touch.” In 1991, We Can’t Dance (featuring “No Son of Mine,” “Hold on My Heart,” and the GRAMMY®-nominated “I Can’t Dance”) marked Collins’ final studio album with the band. While Banks and Rutherford announced the band’s retirement from the stage and studio in 2000, all three members continued to reunite sporadically – most recently for 2021’s The Last Domino? Tour.

Today, Genesis’ generation-spanning catalog includes 15 studio albums, six live LPs, and dozens of charting singles. In addition to their 2010 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the band has received a coveted Ivor Novello Award, a GRAMMY®, an American Music Award, and the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award at Britain’s Progressive Music Awards.

Video Comes As Part of Multi-Year Campaign Celebrating 50 Years of Deep Purple

LOS ANGELES – Deep Purples Smoke On The Water” has become a rite of passage for any guitar player who wants to pay homage to the gods of rock. Its instantly recognizable. For the first time ever as part of the campaign to celebrate the release of the Super Deluxe Edition of Machine Head, the album on which the track was first released, the track has received an official music video.

Conceived by UK-based Chiba Film, the animated production faithfully interprets the story of the songs inception. As the legend goes, Deep Purple were in Montreux to record some tracks in a mobile recording studio rented from The Rolling Stones. They were due to record at the casino there after Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention played. However, during the concert, a member of the audience shot a flare gun toward the roof, which instantly caught fire. The entire building burned down, and the song recounts the events of that fateful evening.

“It’s been an honour to put visuals to this song, undeniably one of the greatest rock tracks of all time. The fact that the song is itself a story meant we had no shortage of inspiration for the scenes that accompany the music. Our idea for the video follows the fact that the band were under pressure to make this record on time after the events that unfolded at the casino. We wished to depict all these events and band members accurately, but also elevate the animated video into an exciting action packed chase that sees the band pursued by the stylus as they ride along the deep grooves of the record. On their journey we visit the places and heroes mentioned in the song, as well as encounters with fire, water, smoke, police and even dragons as they strive to take control of the record stylus and cut their track into the vinyl. The writing of the album was an adventure summed up in the lyrics, and we hope we have created an accompanying adventure  that existing and new fans will enjoy.”

Dan Gibling & Luke McDonnell, Directors, Chiba Film.

The video utilizes the 6-minute-plus 2024 remix of the hit, which reached the top 5 of the Billboard Singles Chart in 1973 and has since been enshrined as one of Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

The 2024 remix was done by Dweezil Zappa, son of Frank Zappa, in a full-circle moment celebrating the inspiration for the lyrics.

Warner Records and Rhino Entertainment honor Machine Head, the album which featured Smoke on the Water” with a comprehensive version introducing new mixes and previously unreleased live recordings. MACHINE HEAD: SUPER DELUXE EDITION will be available on March 29 as a 3-CD/LP/Blu-ray and available digitally for streaming and download.

In addition to the newly remixed original album, which is included on LP and CD, The Super Deluxe Edition also contains two captivating live performances. The first, recorded on March 9, 1972, at the Paris Theatre in London, captures the groups unrivaled stage presence during the Machine Head Tour.” The second, previously unreleased, was recorded in April 1971 at the Montreux Casino in Switzerland, before the events depicted in Smoke on the Water.”

TALKING HEADS

Live At WCOZ 77

Complete 1977 Performance Makes Long-Awaited Debut With Seven Previously Unreleased Live Recordings

Limited Edition 2-LP Collection Arrives On April 20 For Record Store Day 2024

LOS ANGELES – Talking Heads’ seminal live performance recorded for WCOZ-FM in 1977 will be released in full for the first time on Record Store Day 2024. While parts of the show appeared on the band’s 1983 live album, The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads and its subsequent 2004 reissue, this marks the first time the entire 14-song concert will be available.

Limited to 13,300 copies worldwide, LIVE AT WCOZ 77 will be released as a double album exclusively at select independent music retailers on April 20 for $34.98. The LPs were cut at 45 RPM to optimize audio fidelity and sourced from the original two-track tapes, which were recorded and mixed by Ed Stasium.

Recorded on November 17, 1977, at Northern Studio near Boston and broadcast on WCOZ, this seminal performance took place just two months after the band released its debut, Talking Heads ’77. At the show, David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, and Tina Weymouth played more than half of the album’s tracks, including the previously unreleased version of “Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town” featured on the upcoming collection.

In addition, the show’s setlist also boasts early renditions of five songs destined for the band’s next album, More Songs About Buildings and Food (1978). All of those recordings have, until now, remained in the vaults, including versions of “Take Me To The River,” “The Good Thing,” and “Thank You For Sending Me An Angel.”

This remarkable live recording captures a pivotal moment in Talking Head’s trajectory as the band embarked on a groundbreaking 11-year journey, one that would produce eight studio albums and two live albums, including the double-platinum masterpiece Stop Making Sense, which celebrated its 40th-anniversary last year.

DAVID BOWIE

DIAMOND DOGS

Limited Edition 50th Anniversary

Half-Speed Mastered LP and Picture Disc Releasing May 24

LOS ANGELES - Today marks the 50th anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s landmark single “Rebel Rebel,” which appeared in a remixed form on Bowie's eighth and most musically adventurous album of the early 1970s, Diamond Dogs.

On May 24, the exact day of its Golden Jubilee, Diamond Dogs will be issued as a limited edition 50th anniversary half-speed mastered LP and picture disc pressed from the same master. The first single from the album, the aforementioned “Rebel Rebel,” reached No. 5 in the UK, and the album would also reach similar heights on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching No.1 in the UK and No. 5 in the US.

The writing of the album was influenced by Bowie not being able to secure the rights for a theatrical production of George Orwell’s 1984 and the work of William S. Burroughs, whom Bowie had interviewed for Rolling Stone in November 1973. The songs on the album created an urban apocalyptic scenario with Bowie appearing on the cover as a controversial half-man, half-dog hybrid painted by the Belgian artist Guy Peellaert from photos by the world-renowned photographer Terry O’Neill. Since its release, tracks from Diamond Dogs have been covered by artists such as Beck, Tina Turner, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, Joan As Police Woman, Dead Or Alive and The Struts.

To promote the album, Bowie undertook his most theatrical and elaborate tour to date, which was captured on film for the infamous BBC program Cracked Actor and the classic David Live album. Despite written promises to fans that the tour would reach the UK, it never did. For the second leg of the US tour, Bowie stripped back the show and started taking his material in a more soulful direction, which would be fully realized with the release of his next album, Young Americans

This new pressing of Diamond Dogs was cut on a customized late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics from 192kHz restored masters of the original master tapes, with no additional processing on transfer. The half-speed was cut by John Webber at AIR Studios.
