THE STOOGES CONQUER THE HALL OF FAME

Rhino Handmade Honors the Group’s 2010 Induction With Collector’s Edition Of
The Stooges Debut Featuring Previously Unissued Studio Track “Asthma Attack”
On CD and 7" Single

Pre-Order Next Week At Rhino.com, Ships In Late April

LOS ANGELES – The Stooges—Iggy Pop, Ron and Scott Asheton, and Dave Alexander—may have sounded like they were from the Stone Age, but the Ann Arbor quartet predicted the future of rock ’n’ roll more than 40 years ago with the untamable sonic assault of its self-titled 1969 debut on Elektra Records. Soon after the band’s March 15 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Rhino Handmade will celebrate the visionary group’s historic feedback-laden clarion call with a Collector’s Edition of that debut.

Scheduled to ship in late April, THE STOOGES will be available for pre-order next week exclusively at www.rhino.com for a suggested list price of $49.98. The 26-track collection will be issued in a 7" x 7" hardbound booklet that contains two CDs along with a 7" single that features the previously unreleased track “Asthma Attack.” A staple of the group’s early live shows, this is the first time a studio version of the song has been released.

The Collector’s Edition’s first disc combines the original album’s eight songs with producer John Cale’s original mixes, including unreleased versions of “We Will Fall” and “Ann.” Also featured is the mono single version of “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” a song Rolling Stone named #438 on its list of “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time”—right behind Elvis’ “Love Me Tender.”

The second disc opens with “Asthma Attack,” a breathless spectacle of a song written when The Stooges’ 20-minute live sets were dominated by arty experiments in feedback and improvisation. The remainder of the disc presents an alternate version of the original album with alternate takes of every song, including full versions of “No Fun” and “Ann,” plus unreleased versions of “We Will Fall,” “Real Cool Time,” and the album closer, “Little Doll.”

Despite lackluster commercial and critical response at the time of its release, THE STOOGES has withstood the test of time. “The Stooges’ influence is legion—to name all of the bands, singers, and would-be rock stars who drank from the well could fill 1,000 phone books,” writes author Mike Edison in the collection’s liner notes. “There is not a hard or heavy band anywhere on the planet that’s not in earnest awe of The Stooges.”

THE MUSIC OF MENACE FROM SHUTTER ISLAND

Produced By Robbie Robertson, Double-Disc Soundtrack To Martin Scorsese Thriller
Features A Haunting Collection Of Modern Classical Music

Available From Rhino Records February 2

LOS ANGELES – Paramount Pictures presents SHUTTER ISLAND, the latest film from Oscar®-winning director Martin Scorsese. Premiering February 19 in theaters nationwide, the suspense thriller stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, and Michelle Williams. Laeta Kalogridis wrote the screenplay based on the novel by Dennis Lehane. Produced by Robbie Robertson, the film’s haunting double-disc soundtrack features a stunning array of modern classical music. SHUTTER ISLAND: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE will be available from Rhino on February 2 at all retail outlets, including www.rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $19.98 (physical) and $11.99 (digital).

The soundtrack is the latest in a long line of collaborations between Scorsese and Robertson. The two first worked together in 1978 on The Last Waltz, a concert film chronicling The Band’s history along with the original members’ final performance together. During the years that followed, Robertson and Scorsese collaborated on music for the films Raging Bull, The King Of Comedy, The Color Of Money, Casino and Departed.

The collection of modern classical music was hand-selected by Robertson, who is proud of its scope and sound. “This may be the most outrageous and beautiful soundtrack I’ve ever heard.”

SHUTTER ISLAND: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE features a number of symphonic performances, including appearances by The San Francisco Symphony, the National Polish Radio Symphony, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Wiener Philharmoniker. The double-disc collection also contains music by an eclectic group of artists, ranging from ’50s crooner Johnnie Ray (“Cry”), to seminal blues guitarist Lonnie Johnson (“Tomorrow Night”), and sound sculptor Brian Eno (“Lizard Point”). All 19 of the compilation’s songs are featured in the film.

About SHUTTER ISLAND
From Oscar®-winning director Martin Scorsese, "Shutter Island" is the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortresslike hospital for the criminally insane.

ROD STEWART’S BLUE MOON RISES

Legendary Singer Covers The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Stevie Nicks and More On Lost Album from 1992, Includes Two Unreleased Session Outtakes

Available Now Exclusively from Rhino.com

LOS ANGELES – If ONCE IN A BLUE MOON hasn’t exactly been the Holy Grail for the Rod Stewart faithful, it’s only because they didn’t know what they were missing – until now. Recorded in the summer of 1992 with producer Trevor Horn, this unique collection of covers captures Stewart at his interpretive best – his magnificent voice yearning, pleading and shouting in all its gravelly glory through a superb selection of songs.

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON – THE LOST ALBUM is available now exclusively from www.rhino.com for a suggested list price of $19.98. Reminiscent of the year when it was originally slated for release, the CD comes packaged in a vintage long box.

While each of the album's 10 songs were previously released in various countries in different mixes, six have never been available in the U.S. in any form until now. To celebrate the long-overdue release of this lost classic, the CD contains two hidden tracks – both unreleased – recorded during the album’s sessions. Together, they form an exciting whole that places BLUE MOON squarely in the upper reaches of Stewart’s classic catalog.

Stewart opens album with a majestic reading – complete with soaring orchestration – of The Rolling Stones’ 1967 #1 smash “Ruby Tuesday” before shifting into a driving interpretation of the Bob Dylan b-side, “The Groom’s Still Waiting At The Altar.” The collection also features the singer’s take on the 1983 Stevie Nicks’ classic “Stand Back.” It’s worth noting that a trio of tracks on BLUE MOON – “Windy Town,” “The Downtown Lights” and “This” – eventually appeared as key songs on Stewart’s 1995 album A Spanner In The Works.

Prior to the album’s scheduled release in late 1992, an edited version of Stewart singing the Tom Waits favorite “Tom Traubert’s Blues” was released in the U.K., peaking at #6 on the British Singles chart. The reason ONCE IN A BLUE MOON was abandoned remains a mystery, but one factor could be that Stewart recorded his Unplugged…And Seated in early 1993. Released just three months later, the album sold three million copies in the U.S. alone. Whatever the reason for its disappearance, fans can celebrate that the album is here at last.

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON – THE LOST ALBUM

1. “Ruby Tuesday”
2. “The Groom’s Still Waiting At The Altar”
3. “Shotgun Wedding”
4. “The Downtown Lights”
5. “Windy Town”

8. “Let The Day Begin”
9. “First I Look At The Purse”
10. “Tom Traubert’s Blues”

PETER, PAUL AND MARY SOAR AGAIN
WITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Rhino Honors The Trio’s Legacy With Album That Pairs Their Unmistakable Harmonies With An Orchestra On Many Of Their Best-Known Songs

Available from Rhino March 9

LOS ANGELES – Folksingers Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers formed a trio in 1960 that would emerge from New York City’s Greenwich Village to become one of the most influential groups of the ’60s. Rhino presents a collection of emotionally powerful performances that feature the trio singing their best-loved songs backed by a full symphony. The album is dedicated to Travers, who passed away September 16, 2009.

PETER, PAUL AND MARY WITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA: THE PRAGUE SESSIONS will be available March 9 from Rhino at all retail outlets, including www.rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $18.98 (CD) and $10.99 (digital).

The album encompasses 14 live stage performances, all but one previously unreleased, recorded during the ’80s and ’90s by Peter, Paul and Mary and includes many jewels from their celebrated repertoire, such as their #1 hit “Leaving On A Jet Plane,” “Puff, The Magic Dragon,” “Blowin’ In The Wind,” and “Where Have All The Flowers Gone.” The trio’s longtime music director and dear friend Robert DeCormier then combined their voices with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, performing symphonic arrangements DeCormier
had created and developed with Peter, Paul and Mary over the last 30 years. The final track on the album finds the orchestra performing Samuel Barber’s “Adagio For Strings,” an instrumental piece Mary had requested be played at her memorial.

“When the songs and the orchestrations are combined, it’s as if two languages are being spoken simultaneously,” Yarrow says. “One is the language of Peter, Paul and Mary’s voices and the other is a commentary on, and an exchange with, the voices of the trio by the orchestra. In Bob’s hands, the orchestral instruments restate and emphasize the essence of what the trio is feeling.”

Only a few of the songs included here were ever recorded with a symphony orchestra and fewer than 30 live orchestra concerts were ever performed. In the last few years, the trio began discussing how this remarkable aspect of the trio’s musical legacy, one that few of their concert-going fans were able to experience firsthand, should be preserved. Travers was especially resolute that this project be completed. Yarrow recalls that Mary was “determined that this chapter of our creative journey be shared with the public and allowed to tell its story.”

These recordings bring the trio full circle, Stookey says. “This feels like the last page of the photo album, where the family is all collected and everybody’s got their hair combed. It’s Peter, Paul and Mary’s legacy and a way of honoring Mary’s sensitivity to the scope and importance of the music we shared.”
