TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION

4CD/1LP Boxed Set Features The Group’s Classic 1985 Tim Album Remixed by Ed Stasium

Expanded With Previously Unreleased Studio And Live Recordings, Including Alex Chilton Produced Session Plus A Complete 1986 Concert

Available From Rhino On September 22

LOS ANGELES – Released in the fall of 1985, The Replacements’ major label debut, Tim peaked at #192 on the Billboard charts, selling just 75,000 copies. Over time, however, the record would find a mass audience among successive generations thanks to the enduring appeal of anthems like “Bastards of Young” and “Left of the Dial” and ballads like “Swingin Party” and “Here Comes a Regular.”

Even with Tim’s evolving status as an all-time classic, The Replacements remained unsatisfied with the sound of the record, largely centered on the mix done by the album’s producer, Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer Tommy Erdelyi, aka Tommy Ramone. Now, after four decades, the LP has finally been given a long overdue sonic overhaul as part of TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION.

The 4CD/1LP deluxe boxed set is built around a stunning new mix of Tim by legendary producer/engineer Ed Stasium (Ramones, Talking Heads) and features a collection of previously unheard tracks (Sons of No One: Rare & Unreleased) and a classic concert from 1986 (Not Ready For Prime Time). TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION will be available from Rhino on September 22 for $89.98.

Stasium, who was a close friend and longtime production partner of the late Erdelyi (who died in 2014), has fashioned the definitive mix of the 11-track Tim. Also included is a new and improved mastering of Erdelyi’s original 1985 mix of the album. This deluxe edition also includes a disc of unreleased recordings (among them, unearthed material from the band’s January 1985 session produced by Big Star legend Alex Chilton); as well as The Replacements’ entire January 11, 1986, show at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago. In total, the box includes 65 tracks–50 of which have never been heard before.

The fans that purchase TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION at Rhino.com will also receive a limited edition 7” vinyl single featuring two songs from the Chilton sessions: the rollicking road song “Nowhere is My Home” b/w the previously unreleased “Cello Version” of “Can’t Hardly Wait.” Those who purchase directly from Rhino will also have access to exclusive merch bundles.

Presented in a 12 x 12 hardcover book – loaded with dozens of previously unseen photos - the set features a detailed history of the Tim era written by Bob Mehr, who produced the box with Rhino’s Jason Jones. Mehr, author of The New York Times bestseller Trouble Boys: The True Story of The Replacements, won a Grammy® award for his album notes to the band’s 2019 release, Dead Man’s Pop.

Mehr writes: “After nearly 40 years, Tim remains a charmed collision of intention and accident, a balance of deliberate anthems and tossed-off gems, of raucous release and refined beauty—and a record that perfectly captures the band’s fraught but always compelling ascent on the ladder of success.”

In addition to the revelatory new mix, the TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION also boasts a fresh cover, featuring an instantly iconic 1985 image of the band in its Minneapolis rehearsal space, taken by noted photographer Moshe Brakha. Coincidentally, Brakha shot the cover of The Ramones' 1977 album Leave Home, a record which marked the first collaboration between Tommy Erdelyi and Ed Stasium.

Stasium – who was originally considered to co-produce Tim with Erdelyi back in 1985 – was entrusted with the remix in 2022 and went back to the original multi-tracks, spending several months creating a fuller, deeply detailed and ultimately more satisfying version of the record, which finally captures the band’s raw power. Stasium also completed work on several previously unreleased Tim songs and alternates and did mixes of the Alex Chilton session material.

I really loved working on this project,” noted Stasium. “It’s a great record, and now you can hear even better what’s great about it. But the best thing for me was that, in a funny and really beautiful way, I got to work with my dear friend Tommy Erdelyi once again.”

Even before signing with Sire/Warner Bros. in early 1985, The Replacements – singer/guitarist Paul Westerberg, bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer Chris Mars and lead guitarist Bob Stinson began recording new material with their musical/spiritual godfather Alex Chilton that January in their hometown of Minneapolis. They followed up by cutting initial demos with Erdelyi in April, then starting the Tim sessions in earnest that summer. Sons of No One: Rare & Unreleased collects all that material, including illuminating alternate versions of songs like “Can’t Hardly Wait,” “Bastards of Young,” and “Hold My Life” – plus a unique and previously unheard original, “Havin Fun,” written by Tommy Stinson, and sung by Westerberg.

The final disc, Not Ready For Prime Time, captures the band performing live at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro in January 1986. A soundboard recording made by the band’s live mixer, the late Monty Lee Wilkes, the show was a one-off date that came just a week before the group’s infamous appearance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, which ultimately saw them banned from the network. The 28-song Metro performance finds the original lineup of the band at its final peak, with incendiary versions of Replacements classics (“Color Me Impressed,” “Answering Machine”), rarely played deep cuts (“Mr. Whirly,” “Go”), as well covers of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Sham 69,  plus a rare lead vocal turn from Bob Stinson on The Novas’ Minnesota garage rock classic “The Crusher.”

Additionally, TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITON will include Stasium’s new mix of the record on 180-gram vinyl, cut by Chris Bellman of Bernie Grundman mastering.

LOS ANGELES – In celebration of Rhino’s 45th anniversary this year, the label is launching Rhino Reds, a new series of limited-edition reissues pressed on custom “Rhino Red” vinyl.

The Rhino Reds series debuts with a reissue of GOLDEN ALBUM, a 1968 compilation by The Doors that was released exclusively in Japan. This reissue was mastered by Bruce Botnick with lacquers cut by Bernie Grundman Mastering. Limited to 5,000 copies worldwide, the “Rhino Red” version of Golden Album will be available on July 28 for $34.98 exclusively at The Doors and Rhino webstores. This album will not be available in stores.

The album is a compilation of 12 songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s first three studio albums: The Doors, Strange Days, and Waiting for the Sun. Many of The Door’s biggest hits include the #1 smashes “Light My Fire” and “Hello, I Love You.” Five songs from the compilation appear on the bonus 7”, including the Top 40 hits “People Are Strange” and “Unknown Soldier.”

Golden Album comes in a deluxe gatefold jacket with a tipped-in multi-page insert including lyrics to all 12 songs plus a picture sleeve for the bonus 7”. There’s also a vintage Elektra Records listing promoting The Doors albums available at that time.

The Rhino Reds series pays tribute to Rhino’s rich legacy of artists and is a hallmark of the last 45 years. Each vinyl will be pressed at Third Man’s state-of-the-art pressing plant in Detroit to ensure the highest audio fidelity. Likewise, Rhino’s close attention to detail will bring the replica packaging to life, with gatefold jackets and tipped-in inserts for a vintage feel.

RUMOURS LIVE

1977 Concert At The Forum Recorded During The Rumours Tour Debuts As Double Live Album

Nearly 90 Minutes Of Previously Unreleased Music

2-CD And 2-LP Versions Arriving September 8

Crystal Clear-Vinyl Version Available Exclusively From Walmart

LOS ANGELES – Fleetwood Mac was at the top of its game in August 1977 when the band returned to its adopted home in Southern California to play three shows at The Forum in Los Angeles. Rumours had only been out a few weeks when the band left in February to tour the world, returning six months later to play three shows at The Forum for nearly 50,000 fans.

Rumours was the #1 album in America and well on its way to becoming one of the most successful ever released. Rumours eventually sold more than 40 million copies worldwide and has just been certified 21x platinum in the U.S. The record has also been certified 14x Platinum in the U.K. and 13x Platinum in Australia and New Zealand, all countries where the album reached #1.

RUMOURS LIVE captures the energy and excitement of the band’s opening night at The Forum on August 29, 1977. The nearly 90-minute performance includes live versions of most of the songs from Rumours and Fleetwood Mac, the group’s first multi-platinum #1 album, which came out in 1975.

The concert remained unreleased for decades until 2021, when “Gold Dust Woman” from the show was included as a bonus track on Live: Deluxe Edition, Rhino’s expanded version of Fleetwood Mac’s 1980 concert album. The other 17 songs on the collection have never been released before.

RUMOURS LIVE will be available on September 8 as 2-CD and 2-LP sets. The black-vinyl version has two 180-gram records in a gatefold jacket with lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Also, a crystal clear-vinyl version of RUMOURS LIVE will be released the same day exclusively at Walmart.

The music will be available from digital and streaming platforms. An unreleased live version of “DREAMS” from RUMOURS LIVE is available today digitally.

The concert’s setlist draws almost exclusively from Fleetwood Mac and Rumours, the first two albums recorded by the band’s latest incarnation: Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie, and the newest members, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. The lone nod to Fleetwood Mac’s other nine studio albums is a performance of “Oh Well,” a rock-guitar masterpiece originally released in 1969 and written by the band’s founder, guitarist Peter Green.

Engineer Ken Caillat, who helped record Rumours, also recorded the concert at The Forum using the Record Plant’s mobile recording truck. He captured the band’s impassioned performance at a moment of peak Rumours frenzy, including powerful versions of “Landslide,” “Never Going Back Again,” “Songbird,” and “The Chain.”

In the liner notes from RUMOURS LIVE, Sam Graham observes: “The songs are familiar: ‘Dreams,’ ‘Go Your Own Way,’ ‘Say You Love Me,’ ‘Over My Head,’ and on and on. But most of these live versions are more muscular, more ferocious, than the album recordings, driven by the powerhouse Fleetwood-John McVie rhythm section and Buckingham’s febrile guitar playing; and instead of a rote recital of the hits, the group stretches out in concert, as songs like ‘Rhiannon,’ ‘World Turning,’ and ‘I’m So Afraid’ blossom into exuberant tours de force onstage.”
