The Multi-Grammy Winning Superstars Are Joined By The Chipettes On The Group's First New Album Of Original Music In Years
Available Digitally September 25 And On CD October 16 From Munk Music/Rhino
LOS ANGELES - Alvin, Simon and Theodore have made their triumphant return to television this summer with their new series "ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks." Created by Janice Karman, the show is seen by millions each week on Nickelodeon. And now, the #1 selling group in the history of children's music is back with WE'RE THE CHIPMUNKS, the furry trio's first album of original music in years. The album from Bagdasarian Productions will debut digitally on September 25 with a CD-version following on October 16 on Munk Music/Rhino.
All of the album's 13 original songs are featured in the new CGI-animated series on Nickelodeon, including the leadoff track and series theme song, "We're The Chipmunks." The anthem will be familiar to many listeners as it originally debuted as the theme to "Alvin & The Chipmunks," the Emmy®-nominated Saturday morning animated series that aired on NBC from 1983 to 1991.
That series also introduced the world to The Chipettes: sisters Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor. The sassy trio joins the boys for several tracks on WE'RE THE CHIPMUNKS. Together, they take on styles ranging from pop, indie rock, latin, soul, and hip-hop.
This new album is the latest in a long and successful run that goes back to the group's 1958 debut single, "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)." Since Ross Bagdasarian Sr. created these global superstars, the Chipmunks have sold more than 50 million records, won six Grammy® Awards, and scored number one songs and platinum albums.
The Chipmunks made their television debut in 1961 with the "The Alvin Show," one of the first prime time animated television series to air on national television. Twenty years later, The Chipmunks' first prime time television special, "A Chipmunk Christmas" written, voiced and produced by Ross Bagdasarian and Janice Karman aired on NBC and was seen by more than 35 million people, becoming a holiday perennial.
Along with their new hit series and new album, The Chipmunks will also release a new movie produced by Ross Bagdasarian and Janice Karman this holiday season. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip follows three blockbuster motion pictures that have combined to generate nearly $2 billion since 2007.
